A 31-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday after admitting he tortured and killed at least ten cats back in 2019.
The hearing took place at the North County Courthouse in Vista. The courtroom was so packed, that the bailiff placed extra chairs in the gallery, yet there still weren't enough seats for everyone. Officers with the San Diego Humane Society, the owners of the cats who were killed, and other animal lovers were in the crowd.
The defendant, Joshua Boyer, wore a mask during his sentencing. He pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges in 2023.

His condition should be called antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). This is someone who goes against society, rules, and other behaviors that are more commonly held. His inability to know right from wrong, lack of empathy with owners or the cats themselves, manipulating owners, hurting the cats, all of that are signs of psychopathy as a severe type of ASPD. They also tend to lie a lot, having problems repeatedly with the law, being arrogant, have a superficial charm about themselves, and are abusive. He likely had manifestations of this since a teenager, his parents may have also been abusive or neglectful, and no meds will cure him of this.

He was in his 30s and it's highly unlikely those 10 were his first. He's likely been doing it for years, so long the strays in his immediate area have been wiped out so many times they know to avoid it like death. Hence why he went to great lengths to get pet cats.
