I took advantage of a great sale on asparagus and canned it three ways. Hope this inspires you to take advantage of great grocery sales. In this tough economy, we need to be smart buyers! :)

Thank you for the video. The leftover stems are perfect for dehydrating and turning into powder. That way, you can add a kick of asparagus flavor and nutrition to any soup or stew. Two tablespoons will do it!

Why thank you! Asparagus is such a lovely veggie isnt it? I hate to waste, I am a "scrape it til it's clean" "reuse it" "save it" and "use every part of it" kinda gal :)

It is amazing how a genius like can be over looked. You have such a great idea, making 3 things with your asparagus, that I'm in. I am going to the store to get some asparagus, its on sale, 99 cents/ pound, and can both quart and pint size jars. I'm going to have both pickled and hot packed asparagus and asparagus tips and bits soup. Thank-you very much. Please keep the videos coming, you're great. :-)

both, frozen isnt shelf stable but it does stay a little more crisp. I do have some in the freezer as well, I like to toss it on the gril after a light steam and serve it with lump crabmeat and a little spicy butter! yummers!

LUCKY YOU! I have a few plants in the back that are producing now but I am going to take advantage of getting this lovely stuff at a great price every time I can. Whenever I am in Central America, I grocery shop the fields and sides of the roads. the loveliest squashes grow along the roads and where I go has TONS of fruit trees and vines. I once fille a giant cooler with starfruits, oranges, grapefruits, Passionfruit, strawberries and golden kiwi!!! I am a forager and love it!

now that's just terrible, the price of everything has gone up astronomically. It's a shame, but it keeps us useful! the best part of making your own, you know what's in it! posthumus advice from my great grandmama, "You get out of it, what you put in it" such good advice, simple and true :)

Ohh It DOES make a lovely pickle, especially done in the fridge! so crisp and tart and spicy! $1.49 is a great price and it's always so expensive at any other time so it's so nice to be able to get it while you can and can it when you get it! lol Thanks for watching! Gie

Looking bacon the whole process, I think more like three, lol. The longest part was the multiple takes it too me to film it and not stumble over my tongue! Lol it's funny, it's not the doing, it's the filming and explaining and showing but I wanted to make sure this was a vid people could learn from and be able to do their own. :) Thanks for your question, I didn't realize my other ans was so brief. Stupid smart phone lol

when I was a kid my mom rushed a pressure cooker lid and ended up being sprayed by several gallons of hotter than 212 tomato juice . some lesson plans are more personal than others. I run two or more pressure cookers to spread out the time so there isnt as much wait delay.

Save the woody ends and make asparagus soup. Fry 1 large onion or more and all of the asparagus ends in butter and olive oil, until the onions are clear and the asparagus ends are very tender but before they loose their color, add 1 or maybe two quarts of chicken broth, depending on how many ends you have, add some garlic and basil, salt and a lot of pepper. Purée until finely blended. You can strain the soup or eat it with the fiber in it (that’s how I eat it) add some cream if you like. I don’t seem to measure anything. Why waste the woody ends blanch and freeze them until your ready to make soup.

Will add fruit fresh next time. Will it make them taste batter?

So, ok, back to canning the asparagus part. Sterilized jar..washed and cut veggie....put, raw , in jars. Pts or qts. Pour hot water in. Clean tops. And lid it..canner. 10 lbs. 25 minutes... Right ? Because , I am about to do this.

Wow, the tv doesn't babysit my kids. My kids are beyond babysitting age anyhow. I allow them to watch tv and do pay attention to what they watch.they watch intelligent shows as well as entertaining shows.I believe tv can be another tool of learning.people used to fear fire and called it dangerous and evil. The Internet can be a wasteland of porn or used for learning. Shall we call that evil as well?
