Thanks for taking the time to slow the process down and breaking it into a few videos for us. Its pretty informative stuff, much better than just glossing over the fact you had to tear down half the engine to do valve springs and oil pump gears!
@nordic5490
@nordic5490 4 жыл бұрын
Valve spings can be done whith the head on. Use that tool to depress the valves and compressed air in the sparkplug hole to keep the valves up. Head studs can also be replaced with the head on. Yes, oil pumps gears are a pita, but are not needed in a street auto not banging off the limiter. $1000 for an oil pump gear set, not worth it, or neede, for a $150 green top.

For people doing this at home, one mistake he made which caused him some trouble was the screws on the oil pump gears, your best to get an impact are a driver and tap the screw whilst winding out, also when turning the cams to put timing chain back on don't turn them with the bolts on the front, use the correct size spanner on the big casting bosses on the front of the vct mechanisms to ensure you don't snap or overtighten the bolts.

Brilliant, best video I have seen for illustrating timing chain set up, showing the crank trigger wheel removed really helped me set my timing chain up properly after changing a blown head gasket. I still have to find out why the twin fans only work when the air con is on, I'm picking the CHT (cylinder head temperature) sensor may be faulty, but the temperature gauge operates so I'm not sure. May be the something else.

@@STREETMACHINETV For some reason, there are people that are so myopic that anyone who does not fit "all-new" parts, and machine every surface is not doing the job properly. As Scotty would know - machining a gasket surface not only lessens the chance of future rebuilds due to material removal, but it also can introduce far more work (and suffering) when tolerances are out of specifications. Ask the guys that get "all the machine work" done on an old V8. And then the inlet manifold doesn't fit. And rocker angles are wrong. And push rods don't fit. And they need to get their pistons relieved. Etc, etc, etc. Sure, Scotty doesn't have all those issues on a Barra, but he is showing what your "average Joe" can do in his garage with minimal effort and time. He isn't changing cams nor tolerances, therefore he can throw it all back together without too much drama - as can some girl or guy at home who has never worked on an engine before.

I just reinstalled cylinder head of my BA falcon lpg ute with 500,000 km's which needed new exhaust valves. I just took the time to polished the block with emery cloth until it was nice and smooth, have had no problem. How much extra work & cost would it have been to do what you say and remove whole engine and machine block?? It is made of thick steel, so how could it deform??? Cylinder Head is alloy.

It would be very rare to get an embolism by just blowing compressed air on your skin, however if you have a cut opening in the skin it could be a danger. The biggest hazard is with people cleaning things using compressed air, small bits of particles or metal shavings can blow back into your face and eyes at a pretty hefty rate.
