Meh. Most RN’s do not have much education. It only takes about 2 years to obtain an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). These degrees are often obtained from a community college.

I think inflated egos certainly make many people more vulnerable, but egotistical people can also be fiercely protective of their self-interests and especially suspicious of people who might be trying to take advantage of them. Religious elderly women seem especially vulnerable. Not just to romance scams but also all kinds of religiously-presented BSers out to take big chunks out of their retirement funds and/or social security checks. It's been going on for ages.

They make the same mistakes as anyone else when they're dealing with their own family, friends or themselves. They are blinded by the fact it's personal and involves their own deep emotions. It goes so far beyond that. That request/match/whatever she got from General James Dickinson complete with official military photo should have made her laugh her ass off. It was so ridiculous to think a United State General is looking for love on some crummy dating site using his official military photo. That was her first red flag and it should have been enough for anyone who is even halfway intelligent. Why not Mick Jagger, Warren Buffet or Micheal Jordon? If a rich, famous or powerful person contacts you on a dating site, it is a romance scam.

As an RN, I’ve had the unfortunate experience of working with nurses like this lady. They are awful to work with. They know just enough to think they’re smart and then screw things up. They yap their mouths off all the time looking for attention, drive the rest of the nurses crazy with their drama, and have no idea that they know nothing.

FYI she only has a BS in psych meaning it was her college major. In most states a PhD is required to be licensed as a psychologist/psychotherapist. With a Master's degree you can call yourself a counselor. With a BS, you can call yourself a job hunter.

One of the first things I noticed in his pictures….he was wearing a wedding band!!! For me that’s a red flag. I have seen this man’s picture many times on Facebook. I’ve done my own research and knew he had his identity stolen along with many other service men. Thank you for shedding light on all men and women who have been in a scam of any kind. My 86 year old mother has fallen prey to this and the scammer has convinced her that we her children are just trying to control her life and “he” even said “do you love your children more than you love me?”. It’s heartbreaking, shocking and so SO unlike my mother but she was recently widowed and extremely vulnerable. :( It is going on still.😢

Well….from what she said and having worked in inpatient psychiatry units, sounds like she had an undergrad psych degree and a nursing degree. Neither of those are therapists or decide treatments. It takes additional training and licensing to be a therapist…not just a psych undergrad degree. The nursing is great and a good nurse can be just as vital and life-saving in medicine as physicians, but they a team members and mostly provide the hands on, day-to-day care. Unless they have further degrees (like nurse practitioner) they don’t diagnoses or decide treatment themselves (though if a good, experienced nurse tells you they think a patient has a particular condition or complication, only a very foolish physician would disregard that). The good nurses are amazing, but the field also attracts many who aren’t suited to it….some just want the title and inherent respect, some the paycheck and job security, or any field with caregiving can attract wounded people to it.

“Hoist on her own petard” comes strongly to mind. Narcissist lady knows EVERYTHING and yet nothing. This bizarre overconfidence and her profound lack of emotional intelligence, along with her religiosity, left her wide open for the scam. She was practically sending out a beacon to scammers.
