Additional thought - ironically I think more people would like her / the family if they just owned the fact that they’re wealthy but remain “down to earth” about it. Plenty of vloggers are well off but their attitude is what makes them fun to watch and to *some* degree relatable.

I work as a cashier in a huge supermarket chain in my country (it is similar to Walmart, Target etc.), and I can't describe just how much it grinds my gear when people treat me like utter crap and think I am beneath them just because I work in retail. I have a full-time job on top of being a full-time university student, and it hasn't been easy, but I've been able to make it work somehow. People like Charli D' Amelio are just making a mockery out of people who do this for a living.

I have a career in tech, and last year I was unexpectedly let go and had to work as a cashier to bring some money in. I worked harder in those 6 weeks than I did in the past year at my tech job. Retail workers have to be “on” and expected to be pleasant, helpful, and know everything for an entire 8 hour shift. The training was strenuous. There was more paperwork than I have ever had at any job. It takes literally zero effort to be respectful to the person who is cashing you out, yet people go out of their way to be awful. It’s sick.

Here’s a better ad: buy a cart of groceries for either a customer or employee and make sure they get every flavor of your snack to try. Those types of videos do well in the algorithm anyway and it comes across way more generous than cosplaying as an employee for two minutes.

Man I wish retail made me middle class. When I worked retail, even getting overtime and everything, I could not afford to live on my own. No one even close to my age range could now that I think about it; we all lived at home or with partners/roommates. The only ones who could live on their own were older folks who were keeping busy or had previous homes and families. This is just tasteless. Not surprising, tbh. Eat the rich.

Like a few other's I've seen commenting, I also work as a cashier in the biggest supermarket chain in my country. I don't work full time at the moment, but I've still suffered my fair share of rudeness and abuse. Only on Sunday I was a witness to this woman who refused to leave the store after closing because of an issue and witnessed her screaming at two of the shift leaders and demanding she speak to management, none of which ever work on Sundays. She was accusing us of theft, threatening one of them with a complaint and threatened to stay all night until it was resolved. After over an hour she finally left, and I was just told she didn't even come back the next morning. Basic manners and respect cost nothing

“Cosplay as people she no longer relates to” wait I’m not familiar with the Charli D lore, was she ever middle class? I thought her parents were solidly upper-middle class or even just straight rich. Like a Walmart job would’ve neeeeever been in her cards. Edit to add: just got to the tiktok portion of the video… that’s… horrible. People get *paid* to do this??? I should be a millionaire by that standard. 7 times over.

No longer relating to, I should’ve been clearer, here means that she’s trying to act like she’s the same as everyone else. Before she blew up / before she started making $$$, it’s likelier she related to her audience to a different degree. Now the relatability seems to be zero (to me).

The D'Amelios put on Walmart outfits and ran around the store laughing and frolicking, essentially diminishing the job that service workers rely on to pay their bills as some petty tasks. They did this half-assed advertisement for a brand they already made more money than these workers' salaries in front of the aforementioned workers, not only showing that it was a cash grab without any consideration, but flaunting their status ("we have a popcorn brand so thank god we only have to do this for 5 minutes at a time. To be honest, I don’t really understand why people get so upset and surprised, when Rich people act out of touch. Like I don’t understand the backlash, not because I don’t think what she did was wrong, but because I kind of expect her and people in her position to do stuff like this. If someone is constantly flashing their wealth online, why would you assume otherwise? To me this is unproductive because nothings gonna come up this.

As a former Wallyland associate. Not at all surprised they would do this calculated PR stunt in kahoots with Mr. Mart. How else do you get attention now if not negative? I'm not offended by people who have zero clue how I live. Go ahead and make fun of working class. Jokes on you, babes. You're likely rotted and entire personality is borrowed off trending/fyp. That is more depressing than my credit score.

With their demographic (kids) as a retail worker, I promise you they will be stolen by kids instead of actually bought. Lol.

I love the definition of Mediocre TikTok! It really encapsulate the whole thing, it's not bad, it not good (which both are at least something)... it's just mhe.... Plus it always remind me of... "Shut you mouth, you mediocre clarinet player."

idk why, but watching anything related to this family just reminds me of the hunger games/divergent futuristic/dystopian societies . While they vibe in the capital and district 1 I'm out here in district 13 abnegationville working so I can afford basic care needs out of pocket. I just don't like this family because they preach how normal they are when they aren't even living a normal lifestyle.

I just dont like when celebrities/ influencers do stuff like this...like doing normal people stuff either having a part time job. Am I offended? No but i just think its in such poor taste & it just shows how out of touch celebrities/ influencers are. Like its okay that you are rich, idk😅

Im a supervisor for a vendor for the largest Walmart in my state. I think it’s totally what you make of it. There are very hard struggles working at Walmart, yes. But you can choose to find fun aspects about it, or you can choose to be miserable and think negatively of yourself and others. And have a very defeatist attitude towards the job. I dont really care that she is cosplaying as a Walmart employee. Trisha does it with all kinds of fast food jobs too. I think we need to let people have fun again. Let people laugh and play and joke in their lives. Not everything has to be so serious. We all collectively went through a very hard past 3yrs. Why dont we let the young people play dress up for once? Especially considering that it’s literally Halloween tomorrow.

I think that chic thinks very high of herself; regarding the clip that she uses, awkwardly answering the popcorn personality question, I believe she views herself as a coochie coo temptress/badgirl and very unconvincingly is attempting to act as such.

eh, it’s poor taste but I don’t expect her to fully understand why. this just seems like an oversight on her team’s part.

I don’t expect a 19 year old to understand the ins and outs of the economy but to be somewhat aware of “prices are so high people can’t survive” I feel like she should know? Her team *definitely* fucked up here though, agreed.

@@READYTOGLARE Yeah I agree. I think it’s one of those situations where because of her immense wealth and fame at such a young age it is understandable for her to not realize beforehand that the ad is out of touch. Not to say she couldn’t have put in the effort to try and predict these things, but more that I don’t put nearly as much blame on her for an obtuse oversight as I think it’s super understandable for her to make these kinds of mistakes given her circumstances. And although I admittedly know little about her, from what I do know she seems like a genuinely kind person who got very lucky and needs time to grow in maturity to grasp the weight of these kinds of things.
