This is a quick look at the cheapest Chinese saw with cheapest chain I could find and was purchased last year. I needed to cut up a dead Silver Birch, so I've used this opportunity to show this 52cc 18 inch bar saw, working after 18 months use. The saw cost £56 and the chain about £5 and cut this hardwood tree for firewood with very little effort on my part. Despite being cut into short slices, it was still difficult to split with an axe and the largest ones at the base had to be cut again into blocks. Silver Birch makes excellent sweet smelling and steady burning firewood. See also, "Cutting Willow for firewood," • Chinese chainsaw, cutt... . Update 24/10/2019: 2years on and she's still going strong, with no problems and a check on Ebay, shows these saws to be available from around £50 to £65. Here is the next, 4 year appraisal. • Chinese chainsaw, 4 ye... ..

hello fella, you have probally cut more timber in a week than i have in my lifetime, but my dad was chainsaw mad, when he was teaching us the one thing he always said was never let the blade of the saw hit the ground,it may mean you putting the saw down for 20 r 30 seconds but always keep the piece of timbber you are cutting off the ground, all you have to do then at the end of the week or first thing monday morning was a quick rub of the file if needed,. best of luck, oh and these chinese saws are worth every penny .Cheers Tom.

I have two Chinese saws. One is otherwise similar than yours, but a bit smaller 45 cc/13" bar. The other one is more modern, it even has a primer bulb. 20" bar/50 cc. I've had that 45cc ten years and it's still going strong, although grip safety spring is missing, can't lock the throttle halfway open for starting due parts wearing etc. but it starts just fine! I have used 25:1 ratio fuel/oil mix. My dad had his saws piston seized using 50:1 mixture on a similar saw. My 50cc saw is like new, bought it for extreme big logs I had to deal with. If you find a good one, these are very robust saws. Heavy as hell :)

You said you run 50:1 or 40:1. What fuel mix did the saw's instructions recommend? My chinese saw recommends 25:1 but I have heard that is because in many parts of the world the available oil is of such poor quality that 25:1 is needed. I would like to hear your thoughts.
@RoryTrackrod
@RoryTrackrod 4 жыл бұрын
Ignor the manual. If you use dedicated chainsaw oil, you can certainly use 40:1, which I use for a special mix, but generally, I use the mix for the rest of the saws, which is 50:1. I've checked the piston, which is in good condition with an oily film and it's still running well...

I just bought a very similar chainsaw from Ebay. The chain brake handle came fractured out of the box, so I wrapped it in some tape. The main problem seems to be the chain brake "locks" about a quarter inch past where the handle is. Which means you can pull it all the way back to the handle, and it won't lock unless you really pull it back hard. Not sure how to fix that.
@RoryTrackrod
@RoryTrackrod 5 жыл бұрын
These saws vary a lot in quality. A decent seller will replace any damaged parts. On my brake handle, a pin C clip was missing. This caused the pin to dislodge after use and gave a similar problem to yours. Check all the mechanism are in place. My dealer offered to replace the brake, but I obtained a clip from a garage and it has been no more trouble. If that fails, a new assembly is about 13 quid. ..

I got my new 62 cc brake handle fractured during shipping. Repair: patch a piece of alum sheeting, riveted over crack with JB weld, it is stronger than new. I repaired an outboard tiller handle this way, 15 years later, still perfect.

Stay awy from Stihl 261. My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.Warranty dont count if you dont use Stihls own oil or alcylatgas

@jacquesblaque7728
@jacquesblaque7728 5 жыл бұрын
You have me wondering: 1) Why the idle's so high; 2) if you've adjusted carb mixture & how- sounds lean on (L) and (H); 3) if you've invested in necessaries to file chain; 4) why you buck the wood into "cookies"; 5) when bucking on the ground, you don't cut 2/3 or so, roll and finish cuts; 6) why you'd use an ax to split wood, when a maul (3 kg) is a purpose-made tool for splitting. Just FYI & FWIW.
@RoryTrackrod
@RoryTrackrod 5 жыл бұрын
Idle is OK. Chain is good, cuts well. Cookies save any further work splitting. Trunk is supported on blocks clear of the ground, so no need to part cut and roll. I own an axe, not a maul. I also own a bad back, so I don't want to use either. The cheap saw did the job and it's still working well today. Thanks for your observations..
@jacquesblaque7728
@jacquesblaque7728 5 жыл бұрын
If you say so. Wouldn't be so sure m'self. An ax is a sub-optimum, and dangerous, tool for splitting anything larger than short kindling. Most all el-cheapo mauls are instruments of torture- BTDT. Cheers.
@jacquesblaque7728
@jacquesblaque7728 4 жыл бұрын
@Billy Bob I (seldom) use an axe (4 lb 28" Council), on kindling. A "Kindling Cracker" is much faster & safer and can be used indoors. Many tools sold as "mauls" are simply lousy, probably coloring your perceptions. As to your vision problem, a good optometrist is your friend.

Yeah, that dampener came broke on mine (as well the forward stud bent), so they do seem to be a weak point. All the saws I have though came with extras, so they also seem to know that they are a weak point and at least give you extra parts for it. Really surprised at some of the extra parts that come with some of the saws, though all of them come with some.

If I hadn't wanted to do this vid with the Chinese job, I would have used that more powerful old beastie on the trunk and the Scatco, Husqvarna 236, or Stihl 180, on the trimming, but despite having poor bar oiling, the Scatco managed the job quite well on this hardwood tree. ..

Time & effort spent in learning proper guided chain-filing is an excellent investment. Any chain just out of the box can be noticeably improved by filing. Much better KEEPING a chain sharp than sharpening a dull one. Pay attention to depth gauges while you're at it. My ear-tach says it's peaking at pretty low revs- probably around 7k; that'll keep the power down, not a terrible thing. Serious modern saws peak around 10k. No free lunch.

RoryTrackrod most probably the gears got chewed up because they are pressed togeather only by thin metal sheet screwed into plastic cover by 2 3mm philips screws its just poor design and still think that it would get chewed up sooner or later and if you all folks never had poblems with that particular tensioning system it might be worth to try again however since i didnt semi-tighten the two nuts that hold togeather the bar that metal sheet couldnt carry the forces involved (since it would be otherwise clamped to the bar) and the gears skipped and got stripped that might be the reason why yours still works? right? im in perception 1 have to pay for new parts and wait for them,chance of same faliure but the chainsaw is safer(the chainstop stays) 2 replace with steel plate with welded carier for M6 screw which i already started building shit would be bullet proof

The fault in a chinese chainsaw is not the product it self, it may work OK. BUT it took someone years to develop each and every saw, that costs money and time and that is a big reason that REAL brand chainsaws are so expencive. You really sell out those companies when you buy a cheap nok-off copy, and in the long run yourself as your country will gett poor as the copy cat gets rich :( I can see that not everybody can afford a costly product but I would not be proud when buying the pirate china version....
