Absolutely love Chris Herren. I watched his 30 for 30 in detox 2.5 years ago. It's such a huge motivation for me, and for w.e reason it stuck with me after 13 yrs of addiction. Im now sober continuing to work on my recovery. One day at a time. I always watch out for anything he does and his speaking events. If you're struggling with addiction, you can make it if you really want it. The mind is a beautiful, powerful thing. I pray for anyone trying to get clean and DONT GIVE UP hope! We all wanted to be Chris Herren growing up in Fall River, playing ball until the sun went down all spring, summer, and fall. True story

My brother & teammate from high school! I just want to say to the youth that "Chris Herren" was more than just addicted drugs, he really was a great basketball player! The drugs throw a shadow on how great he was & he's very humble these days because he knew damn well that he was destined for the NBA! I was there literally, the man received letters from damn near every D1 college in the country & he was on the McDonald's all-star team, those that now what that mean know he was an elite high school player! Chris mother, father & brother showed me love when many people in the city of Fall River didn't. The city is dominantly "Portuguese" & the race element was very much so alive but Chris family especially his mother (RIP) made me feel the most welcomed. To the people that disrespect Chris from strangers all the way to childhood friends y'all need to grow the fuck up... Nobody is perfect, but my brother overcame his life demons & he's currently winning in life as a family man, basketball isn't important in the grand scheme of things because family is!

I am 9 years clean , Chris Herren plays a major role on me getting off H ,I only had a 3 year full blown Addiction , but 2014 Jan , it took me 6 months of hard work but Jan 2014 I never looked back nor have the desire , I watched his documentary probably over 100 times , he helped but I did the work , you have to decide to close those doors forever , there is no such thing as a part time junkie , that drug don’t play that game , your either clean or your a junkie , no middle ground . Once I realized that , I said fuck it , just let it go , 2 overdoses . From Staten Island , I’m still here , only 1 percent stay clean the rest of there life , I’m still that 1 percent , I’m clean today . Big salute Chris .

I started watching Chris when he played for Fresno State. I played college ball around the same time. Even though, he was just a couple of years older I wanted to play like him. Then, I never knew he had addiction problems the way he played. I enjoyed watching his game. After all these years, I can relate to him as a father coaching his son. He backed off from coaching because it was bringing bad out of him. Being competetive and having played college ball, you totally have to change your mindset when trying to mentor your kid through sports. This interview is eye-opening. Thank you, Chris!!!!!!

I been to rehab several times in 2022 and we watched his 30 for 30 and it literally changed my life. I’ve heard hundreds of speakers, stories etc but this guy touch me in a different way for some reason. I cried while watching this because it took me back to the pain I was in when I first watched him. Been sober since July 2022. I’m still scared every second of every day that I will go back

Chris has helped me with my addictions. I never played at his level but trust me when I say playing ball or doing art on percs is different. It makes you feel like you do everything better high. And if you can handle your pill, no one would know your high. It doesn’t show physically on your face like weed does. His journey is incredible. I too am not a person who can have just one beer and be fine. One beer turns into 10 beers and pills or cocaine. Thank you for your transparency, Chris 💪🏾

I remember all those guys. Dominick Young, Kendrick Brooks, Melvin Ely, Courtney Alexander, Winifred Walton, Terrance Roberson, Demetrius Porter, Larry Abney, Rafer Alston. They were stars around town

Saw Chris play in high school and jumped on his fan wagon immediately. Followed him through high school college pros. An amazing talent. Most impressive as him putting down the garbage and cleaning his life. Hero in my book. Role model extraordinaire

The first 30 for 30 I saw was "Unguarded." I had no real idea what it was, just flipping channels and came across it on ESPN, stopped and watched it. Amazing story. Good to see his still doing okay.

Addiction is powerful!! It has no limits! This man’s journey is an inspiration to those dealing with any type of addiction and the loved ones; as Chris mentioned, it reaches out on so many different levels through so many different people that love you. It’s a journey!

Salute to this fella. I know exactly how it feels when he said “every night i would go to bed stressed & depressed & tell myself tomorrow would be different & that turned into ten years”. Listen,, this guy can paint a picture so vivid it's scary.. I remember seeing his 30 for 30 In the midst of my own thralls of addiction at 22 years old & him making me cry like a baby just because he was someone who had lived pretty much the life I could only dream of yet he was just as bad as I was if not worse.. inspiration is an understatement but the work never ends for him & myself. I may not of did it the right way, but I haven't touched opioids in almost a decade

Saw his documentary in just about every treatment center iv ever been too. Powerful powerful stuff. Everytime I saw it man I felt empowered, shit used to get me so hyped. Never played ball like that myself but man I was 18 years old injured myself severely and fell in love with opioids/most other drugs but opiates had my heart. By 20 years old I was a spoiled drug addict with a habit big enough to kill a family. I had NO idea the type of pain that I was about to indure for the next 8 years of my life. but you couldnt tell me shit, I certainly wasn't gunna hear nothin. Anyways Chris your story didn't get me clean by any means but it absolutely was part of the building blocks on my journey to get clean. So thank you Chris Herrin for continuing to tell your story and never forgetting where you came from! I know I won't.

I felt every minute of this brother.. I've been to treatment and failed..you could say I've been there done that type of deal with the drug use.. but I keep failing! Im currently failing my wife! My wife's family! My family! Everyone !! They all just talk shit about me and bully me instead of some damn inspiration is sucks ! So not only do I have to ride this roller coaster by myself. I have to inspire and love myself on my own too !.. like seriously a damn hug from someone telling me everything is going to be alright! I'd break down in tiers I'd love to feel that again.. but I just lost my job I just dont know where to turn man I feel I don't know where to start! I wish I could talk to you for a bit brother! I have a lot of respect for you man for your honesty and everything! Also my name is also Chris so I felt this spoke to me alittle more lol.. im currently 31 years old and want it now more than ever I want it so much i can taste it! but God bless you brother! 🇺🇸🦅

I got what your saying at the beginning that killer instinct, its hard to turn it off in competition. I agree. I didnt know how 2 turn it off when I played. I had to quit playing because I didnt like the guy I was when competing.

Sports are so important in our society, too important for some of us. I respect the hell out of this guy for a few reasons, but one is his refusal to coach his kids because he understands it would end up being a toxic situation. A lot of parents don't want to accept that even if they weren't a great player with generations of their family being athletes. Even if you know you're over the top at times, it's hard not to go crazy sometimes
