I’m American and I hate turkey. Ham is better. And if chicken was possible I’d get chicken. It’s just in American culture and dealing with holidays you only have a choice between turkey or ham. Otherwise you have to go against the culture push. I’m all for btw since I hate Thanksgiving food and Christmas food.

Apart from the science around it, there's also the simple "experience" to eating something like a chocolate egg, vs a full-on bar of chocolate. Nowadays a bar of chocolate scares me off really quickly. It's just way too much. But a fine chocolate coating? Or a rich, dark ganache that goes with some sweet pastry? Hell yeah.

When I was young my mum really put effort into the "milk and cookies" thing. We'd do different things each year. We did french toast one year, and we usually left carrots or apples for the reindeer. Which my mum would cut up and leave on the balcony or the deck. So it seemed like they'd been fed. One year we left cheese for "Santa Mouse" which was from a children's book we had, and I got a letter from Santa.

You guys make gravy with bacon? I've gone to school for this and we didnt even do that at school. Gravies and similar sauces use the juices and sometimes the bones left over from meat, bones more often than not go towards a broth, neither of which we put bacon in unless we're trying to do a very specific thing. Even again we would get the flavor from the left over juices not the meat itself

As a cook, I see both arguments about the meat debate. But Garnt is right, when meat is cooked properly and has a higher fat content it will taste much better than meat without. The argument against fat is weak, as fat is so so important for flavor. Butter is fat, avocado oil is fat, olive oil is fat, cream wouldnt be cream without fat. Fat is important for some of the best tasting foods out there!

@colonelchan8459
@colonelchan8459 3 жыл бұрын
So no, just because it has more fat doesn’t mean it has more flavor. Fat is flavorful and adds to the meat a lot but they weren’t talking about all fat or no fat. The argument was over if American bacon that has more fat is better than other bacon that has more meat. Also, then never said fat wasn’t important. Don’t know where that’s from. And the point is that just because it’s over 60 percent fat doesn’t mean it tastes better then a piece of meat that is 20 percent fat. For example when frying bacon you always let the fat render and fry it in its own fat. All that changes in your argument is that once both pieces are done you’ll be left with a smaller piece of meat because more fat has been rendered off than the other piece. If you want to argue which type of bacon is better you can argue that but if it’s the same cut with different fat ratios; then more fat is worse for you.

The one time I fully agree with Garnt about food, I didn't like fat on meat as a kid but as I've gotten older I have learned that it is where the flavour comes from. I would also take beef any day over pork, even sometimes bacon because it can be too much sometimes but does have its place. Also I used to spend New year's with my family since it was my dad's birthday as well which was quite nice, but I was very grateful when I was old enough to be able to leave before midnight to go hang out at with my friend's. If you're not much of a party person like I was having a small get together with three or four friends at their place can be really fun and awesome. Those were some great New year's eves.

As someone who only has eaten Chicken and mutton their entire 18 years of life it was just fun watching them debate over pork and bacon. Especially when being from a 3rd world country, you don't complain about something this much. Meat is meat like someone said in another comment. None of this was hard to watch it was just fun. Loved every second of it 😂

@@crowwithashortcake Cause in a third world country I live in, we mostly only use one glass and only drink beer. Yes I know it sounds gross.

7:25 Surprised no one mentioned this already, but Sliders are theorized to have come from a few different places. One is the Navy in the 40s, where mini burgers were made quick and cheap and were so greasy they’d “slide” down easily. Another is that mini burgers were put on the griddle and slid to the side to make way for more patties, keeping them warm to add toppings before serving. Either way, check out George Motz, he is THE burger historian
