Aye m8, all this work you do in terms of time, investing, technical development and on top of it - filming, editing and sharing! Come on guys and sign in to contribute to Steve’s superior work! You and your testing are worth to have 100% support. I can’t imagine there is anything like it. I mean the whole industry of anchor manufacturers are doing a great job and I would like to see and hear anyone of them to popp in, in (at least) one of your vids and telling how they do their R&D and asking you to continue your splendid work. This is all such an clever way to get the gear into various sea floors and really try every one of them in a realistic situations.

As always a great video thank you so much for all your hard work. Based on several of your videos I’ve recently purchased a new Rocna Vulcan 15kg 35lb anchor for my 33 foot sailboat. Have yet to use it but expect it will be a marked improvement from the old 35lb Manson Plough (CQR copy) that was always on its side every time a dove on it. Thanks again Steve and keep up the good work.

I think the ability to self launch is applicable in this anchor weight range as well. I purchased a Vulcan for its self launch ability (among many other reasons). I also installed a Maxwell HRC6 windlass because of an event I had. I have a 2300C North River. I was tired after a long drive and a morning of fishing. I pulled into a bay, dropped anchor and took a nap. I woke to 25knot winds, only 10-15knots were predicted and I could not retrieve my anchor. I was solo and with all the wind resistance on my boat, hauling it to the anchor was not possible. I had to wait for 5 hours for the wind to die. I started windlass shopping the day after this happened to me. A 21lb anchor is the appropriate size and a powered windlass is very much a good fit on a 7000lb full pilot house boat.

You did a very good job, but on the Delta anchor, like in other prévious videos, Theres something wrong with the câmera and we dont see how the anchor its seting... That anchor its very popular, i think it Will be Nice if you have done it properly... After see your tests its very usefull to see how anchors work, even if i dont take the same conclusions as you. I'm thinking I'll change my mind from a 17lb mantus M1 to a 21 lb Viking 10. I have a smaller boat, 26ft, 5,000 lbs and think the 25lb Mantus M1 is too large. The 21 Viking 10 seems better than the Mantus 17 and just under the Mantus 25 so a good middle ground. My 1st concern at night is tidal changes in southern florida (sand) and resetting is more important than ultimate holding power. I"ll just pull my boat onto the trailer than to ride out 50kts of wind. Throw in some ICW cruising, great loop, and lakes in the future, and the Viking 10 seems to work better in more different substraits.

I don't understand why the Rocna did so poorly. Most bluewater sailors use this anchor and are amazed, what happened?

Great test & compilation. Thanks for all your efforts. However, one aspect of your comparison between the 20 & 40ish ranges - you show the 20# Vulcan as 8th of 11, but for the 40's you listed it as 6th of 11. But, when I look at your previous test of the Vulcan 47, you place it #1 overall & #2 for performance. Therefore, wouldn't it be #10 for the 20/40's size comparison? PS-I hope to contribute something soon when my pension payments kick in. Thanks again!

Great stuff. Steve, did you ever cut the roll bar off a Rocna and retest? Seems an interesting idea.........I do remember the hole drilling experiment............perhaps someone will recall.
