To the defense attorney: don’t point your finger at the jury. Don’t accuse the jury of breaking the law. Don’t whine. Don’t tell the jury your client is a liar and justify it by calling the jury liars. Don’t use guilt in your closing arguments. If you think you had evidence contrary to the prosecution then cross examine the witnesses. Edited: oh yeah I almost forgot, they say lying makes you thirsty. You kept drinking water …just saying.

I do feel for defense attorneys who land cases like this which are indefensible, but they seem to want to convince jurists that "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" means 'proof beyond all doubt', the only card for a desperate defense. There is no doubt in this case. CH lied constantly to make his life easier & he was growing ever closer to being exposed as a failure & a liar- which would cause his gravy train to end. He wanted to continue to lie to inflate his reputation & benefit from his parents' estate/insurance to coast through life for even longer. Selfish, entitled, spoiled, manipulative, murderous psychopath.

Interesting case though because Guy did the same as Halderson but is very different (smart, oppressed, closeted, emotional about his roommate). The trial for Reinking showed beautiful people as witnesses (victims) and a sore gap between wanting to punish the murderer and him being a schizophrenic. Okay, what do YOU think could have been said in a defense closing? The only thing that is strange is that he insisted on a trial. He was obviously going to be convicted. His attorneys would have told him that, but he insisted on a trial. He'd have done much much better to take a deal - tell them what he had done with the other parts of his parents, and got his attorneys to negotiate for a better prison or better prison rules - which is what they do if someone is going away for life. The defense closing was all they could do. If it hadn't been okay for the circumstances then he will get an appeal based on inadequate defense, but he won't because there is so much evidence.

I mean, at that point you’re already definitely going to get life if you plead guilty. If you take it to trial there’s going to be a minuscule chance you can get off. Particularly if you can afford a good attorney (or luck into a good public defender), but in a case with this much physical evidence, there would’ve had to be some kind of police misconduct or other technical error for him to get off.
@greenman6141
@greenman6141 Жыл бұрын
@@SarelleSirius But his attorneys could have negotiated for a better prison or better conditions in prison had he pled guilty. Which, given that it was so so obvious he would be convicted, he should have done. Obviously it wasn't the attorneys' fault, again, given the ludicrous statement the murderer read out. A crime and criminal as heinous and stupid as Chris Watts' - who, now that I think of it, is in a Wisconsin jail. Will there be a fair trade and send this vile thing to Colorado?

"Dads phone died, text or call me" -This is Chandlers attempt to keep his mom from texting his dad. Because Chandler could not unlock his fathers phone. Had she sent him a text and it remained unread, it would prove Bart disappeared between 2:10 and 5PM July 1st. "And get soda on your way home, I have an extra hour of work" -This is Chandler creating a reason for his mother to go into the basement. The small fridge in there is where they kept sodas. The extra hour of work part was likely an attempt to get his mom to assume he's locked in his room working, not downstairs next to the fridge with a rifle waiting for her.

I see where you’re coming from but I don’t think that’s entirely correct. Firstly, they don’t see if a text has been read or not, they just see the content, date, time, sender and recipient of the texts sent. Secondly, who’s to say someone else besides the mom wasn’t going to text or call Bart? Chandler had no control over who would text or call. I think his reasoning for saying Bart’s phone died is so the mom doesn’t get suspicious or worried when she unsuccessfully tries to text or call bart and then calling the cops or coming home worried or suspicious. Chandler wanted to catch his mom completely off guard. Also I think the soda thing was moreso to buy more time. Because she wasn’t buying a whole case of soda, she only bought a single cup. Also he could easily draw her into the garage by other means

On the defense argument. Ouch. I guess they are hoping the jury is stupid. 'beyond a reasonable doubt' is not the same as 'absolutely zero doubt'. 'Beyond a reasonable doubt' does not mean 'we know every single detail. -The victims never told anyone they were going to the cabin. -The Haldersons both just skipped work with no call to their employers, out of character -The victims did not leave the house. -The victims blood, DNA and cell phones were in the house. -The tarp found with the father's torso had Chandler's footprint and his fingerprint in in his father's blood. -If the defense wants to argue something was untrue, maybe they should have argued it during the trial. Instead she went with “he’s innocent, must have been an awful accident, the other attorneys are jerks and not doing their job correctly, and you’re all liars who probably googled the case against court rules”. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ How did she think ANY of that was a good idea. The defense said the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt, that Chandler was guilty of filing the missing person report, but not the other charges. 🤣 That caught my attention immediately. 👀 For him to be guilty of this, Chandler would have to know his parents weren't really missing, when he filed the missing person report, right? 🤦🏽‍♀️🤔🤭 Chandler filed this report on 7.7.21. Barts remains weren't found til 3pm on 7.8.21. 🤔 So, by the defense saying Chandler was guilty of this false report, she's telling the jury that he had prior knowledge of Bart and Kristas whereabouts/death! 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Cause he murdered them days before, in my opinion, allegedly. Isn't that being confirmed by CHANDLERS DEFENSE? 🤔🤨😬 She ends her closing with the state also proved Chandler scattered his parents bodies throughout the state but, who could have killed them? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Am I missing something? A defense attorney telling a jury that their client is GUILTY in their closing, calling the jurors liars, and repeatedly saying common sense, isn't really a great idea... just my thoughts... 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Defense attorneys often try to sell us on the idea that if someone didn't actually SEE the murder take place, and possibly provide a video of it, then there is room for "reasonable doubt". Someone COULD have come sneaking in the house through some window that was not in the line of sight of any of the neighbors' cameras and committed the murders and then gone sneaking unobserved out the same way and left poor little Chandler with the grisly task of getting rid of all the evidence in the worst possible way. If someone COULD have done that, then there is reasonable doubt. Right? Please! To believe anyone else committed this crime, you would have to suspend all sense of reason and logic. No wonder the Defense attorney got so snarky. She literally had nothing else...

When the defense attorney said that the prosecutors did not have the right to say "I don't know" how Krista was murdered because they SHOULD know, how I wish someone had said to her, "Well gee. If your client had left large enough pieces of his mom and dad the prosecution undoubtedly would have known how they were killed." All she did was emphasized the fact that Chandler not only murdered them but he mangled their bodies! The more I learn about this guy the more I dislike him. He shot his dad IN THE BACK? I guess the term "back stabber" is not just a term. I dislike him obviously because he killed his parents but I dislike him even more for the fact that he killed his parents to cover a pack of lies he had been telling everyone. I intensely dislike him because he had the audacity to have Cat stay over when he knew the cut up bodies of his parents were in the same house as the house he had her sleep in. And speaking of the way he treated Cat, he had the nerve to put paper towels with Bart and Krista's blood on them, in a bag with Cat's name on it and leave the bag on her mother's property. Did he even stop to consider that if the cops had not pretty much known from the get-go that he was the one who had killed Bart and Krista, they might even have arrested Cat for the murders. Bart and Krista's blood on towels in a bag with HER name on it and the bag located on her mom's property would make rather compelling evidence that Cat was involved in the crime. I wonder if he ever even thought of that. Probably not. I dislike him because at the age of 23 he is doing NOTHING. He's not going to school. He's not working. He's just sitting in his room all day playing video games. Someone else commented about what an excellent judge presided over this trial and I agree that he was good, but that prosecutor, William Brown, was a masterclass storyteller. I literally have listened to his opening statement a half a dozen times and I sometimes listen to it as I am going to sleep. I don't mind missing some of it because obviously I've heard it all before and of course we know how this all turned out, but he just blows me away.

I don’t disagree that they ain’t got much to work with, but it appears that they just gave up! “No thank you” “ Not at this time, thank you” are my favorite answers. they don’t even call most of the witnesses by their names. She is trying to pull the same thing that got the world's worst mother, Casey Anthony, out of a first degree murder conviction...if you cannot say it was an intentional murder, you cannot convict of FIRST DEGREE MURDER and THAT'S why she got off because the judge didn't allow for any other kind of murder conviction for her. The male district attorney is an absolute savage. This dude is a beast. His opening statement best I've ever heard and now his rebuttal closing the defense just had no chance at all. I heard the opening and knew Chandler was guilty. It was just too good. I almost feel bad for the defense because it was game over before it even started

The defense really made me angry. She does nothing but accuse people of being too stupid to know what they saw, heard, and remembered. Accusing medical professionals of being incompetent and not knowing the time of death. Saying that the witnesses are either lying or confused. It's *_infuriating._* Edit: AND accusing the jury of not following the rules. Yeah, that'll really win em to your side, lady.

Why in THE HELL did this boy plead not guilty 😡😡😡 You left one of the largest set of breadcrumbs to follow I have ever seen. What a pitiful defense team but on the other hand WHAT COULD THEY SAY ? What could they ask of these impeccably professional detectives, scientists the wonderful family and friends that could give them a shred of doubt as to his guilt ?? I would have not been able to represent this young man considering even a fraction of the evidence provided. But alas we live in a fair and just legal system, to presume innocence until convinced of guilt. No defense attorney in the entire world would want anything to do with this case. He’s a freaking monster. His beautiful girlfriend and her family are absolutely destroyed over what’s happened. Cat was puking while giving her interview ? OMG My heartfelt and sincere condolences go out to all involved. I cannot imagine how hard this has been for them. It will be in their mind and hearts for the rest of their days. RIP Bart and Krista ♥️ I’m so sorry this horrible crime occurred to the two of you at the hands of your own son Unfathomable 😞

I hope this comment is read in the context and spirit it’s written. As a cop I believe in following the evidence. It is with this and after listening to all the evidence that I along with 99% of people would say he’s guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. However, this tragic, morbid and evil case can serve as a a good case study for all law students in illustrating how difficult and limited you are as a defense attorney when your client has such overwhelming evidence against them. In cases like this with such depths of evidence the most pertinent question to a suspect/defendant is “ok, if not you then who?” They couldn’t imply let alone indicate someone else may have had the opportunity to commit this crime. Having said all of that, this may be controversial but I would be amiss if I didn’t say that just from a legal point of view, (not emotions or my opinions) that I was able to give the defense some credit for the first time in this whole trial, with their closing argument. They have been idle and the cross examinations have practically been non-existent. I don’t believe it will affect the verdict but the closing was good and delivered well, so much better than the opening. “Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains taken to bring it to light.” George Washington

This case was a slam dunk for the prosecution as well as a defenseless case for the public defense team. But what frustrates me is that I've seen kids who were very bright and just "naturally smart" even as grade schoolers but had parents who were complete idiots, irresponsible and in some cases, even drug addicts. Needless to say, those kids never stood a chance but would've loved the opportunities this kid had. Add to that, if this kid put half the effort in his education as he put into creating all these lies and cover-ups, he might've and probably could've led a fairly productive life.

Great coverage by Channel 3000, yet again today! Summations by attorneys, as expected. Brilliant by Prosecution, limited by Defence because what could they provide with such overwhelming evidence to his guilt? Let’s hope the jurors reach their decision prudently, with justice for Bart & Krista Halderson. Then Chandler can live (off taxpayers) as he did off his parents for the rest of his life, in prison, so he can’t harm another soul.

I know there wasn’t much of a defense to begin with, but Chandler’s defense team is a JOKE! It honestly makes me angry because their incompetence is only going to leave the door open for an appeal down the road, on the grounds of inadequate council. Kimbyrleigha here on KZfaq, made a compilation of all of the “No thank you’s” from the defense. They couldn’t think of anything to ask in cross examination? They couldn’t have brought any character witnesses in, to testify on behalf of Chandler? Listen, I know the guy is sick and deserves to never live outside of prison but he also deserves a fair trial and adequate council...just like everyone else. The defense was SO BAD, it honestly makes me wonder if it was done purposefully...
