I was always taught that techs are QUALIFIED to do more than CNAs but from what I've seen it's not translating to that on MY unit. It could be the unit I work, the shift I work or just the people I work with IDK.

I Took my NCLEX last week (second attempt) and passed with 145 questions! Ms Clara’s review materials was very very helpful to me. For anyone that failed the Nolex, don't loose hope, I know many awesome nurses who passed the test on their 3rd and even 4th try.

I am currently in community college to get my LPN certificate but my goal is to become an RN and I work as a DSP caring for the developmentally disabled community. I have followed your journey and because of your history I decided it was not to late for me to achieve my love for nursing❤. You are an inspiration I am 48 years old and look forward to this part of my life. Thank you for all of the information that you provide 😊

I’m a pct on a surgical floor and I take out foleys, drain JP’s, ekgs, put on telemetry boxes, scd’s, blood sugars, not to mention toileting, linen change, walking patients, in and out the nutrition room, answering call lights and doing any other responsibilities that come with the job. I’ve been trained to do a bladder scan but most of the time, I have so much responsibility the nurse has to do it.

The level of care has gone down. However we also have to look at the amount of money they are still trying to pay CNA's. They aren't being compensated for the amount of work they are doing. No one should have to work 50+ hours a week to make ends meet.

YEARS AGO......😅 I worked as a PCT, and that particular facility didn't have CNAs. I did blood draws, started IVs, I&O, EKGs, gave baths, set up traction (post-op unit), changed linen.....you name it, we did it. This was in DC. I guess it's different now 🤷🏽‍♀️

The hospital setting is different than he techs don't pull trash we have Evs 24/7 . CNA's are more for ADL's , Techs have a additional certification to do blood sugars , foleys, labs, bladder scans done hospitals the techs draw from the port it's definitely different in the settings and titles

I think agency cna's work harder then staff bc they want to be able to come back and work at that facility

From my experience before becoming an RN I worked as a PCT. I was working as a CNA that that did blood draws, blood sugar checks, EKG's, transport, and a list of other things. Rounds had to be done every 2 hours by the nurses and PCT's. Currently Im working in a nursing home and i can definitely tell the difference when an agency hospital CNA comes to my job because they do so much more quality work. They tell me its light work compared to a hospital and I agree. The CNA's at my job barely change the residents once per shift 🤦🏾‍♀️ without being asked to do so. It's just a different level of professionalism in my opinion.

In Colorado There really in not much difference now. I been a cna for 20 years with 7 years in LTC in the hospital I have done everything including medical assistant duties as long as the nurse delegates me including wound care lab draws ekgs bladder scans glucose checks. It really depends on the hospital but cnas do a lot more skills in the hospital then LTC. Although I hold a cna license in Colorado some hospitals call their cnas pcts as well so really I'm trying to find out the difference between the two. I even worked 5 years in the emergency department doing emt job duties. Which is why I'm going to school now to get my bsn because a cna of my position is grossly under paid. But cnas now days do the bare minimum and less I'm an old head learned from cnas like the one you mentioned and was doing the bed corners and everything but just because it's taken it's toll on my back I try to avoid lifting as much that's why I do the hospital scene but nursing has changed and rightfully so cuz we are under paid emensely.

On the med surg unit I work on it is more work than the damn nursing home on some days. Even though I may have 5 or 6 patients, I'm doing baths, accu checks, and vitals and I am like where are the damn techs? Don't get me wrong I do like not having to push and pull heavy med carts up and down the halls. The hospital I'm at needs to have more day shift techs cuz us nurses have admissions/discharges sometimes back to back with hardly any advance warning.

Also if the requested med is not on the pt list must call the doc for permission!

They have the really young once, that this is their first care giving jobs training. That’s the problem.and they let the lazy and ones be lazy, because of numbers.they need to stop letting just anyone train.
