In this video I intend to remove all 4 ABS wheel sensors on my 2001 Mini One Cooper R50 R52 with the Tritec Engine. Though the R50 has no supercharger.

I really appreciate you show the repetition of all four wheels in full procedure ( even down to showing the removal of wheel bolts four times). It really helps learning the process by drill the repetition into memory. I also can get a clear sense of how much time and effort the job will require. Most how-to videos would just fast forward and skip the repeated parts thinking viewer will be bored or the creator just doesn’t bother spending the extra time in editing a longer video.

Removing the ABS sensors was not as bad as I expected after watching this, and my car is quite rusty. The bolt came out fairly easily then using mole grips I just gripped each side of where the wire goes in (to prevent breaking the bolt hole tab) and started twisting gently and pulling. It was tight but came out ok after about 5 minutes

That's good to hear. Don't drill them out like I did and damage the ABS ring on the drive shaft.

Excellent video, I think adding colour to the labelled parts really works well! This is going to be next week's job, I've already identified that it's the front right wheel sensor that needs changing. Wish me luck 🤞🙂

Google bought me here! Did you sort it in the end and are all 4 sensors the same? I need to find out which one it faulty on my R52 as my cheap code reader doesnt' even display any stored faults!

the hardest part of the job is getting the sensors out of the hole in one piece and its why most people are looking it up and you cut that part out. strange decision

@@CoatsandGaiters having a nightmare at the moment the bottom mounting bolt on my front shock snapped i attempted to replace the top bearing mount without removing the whole shock and now the spring has unseated and is sitting slack on the shock absorber and no way to compress the spring with it on the car properly, I’m giving up sending it to a garage very annoying

@@CoatsandGaiters to be honest best I seen as you gave in details whats main thing that brings up ABS LIGHT and I got the one that's tells you low tyer pressure any ideas

This was an absolute pig of a job on mine. 1st sensor came out and was replaced in about 40 mins. The 2nd took 4.5 hrs. Had to hammer a 5.5mm hex into the bolt to get it out, the sensor snapped off in the hole, and the new sensor refused to go into the rusty hole. But I got there in the end.

@@CoatsandGaiters so much WD. So much cursing. It really was a tough job. But as I said, I did replace the two front sensors in the end, and all the warning lights on the dash are now off.

What diagnostic program do you use? We need to invest in something but can't work out the best option. Handheld device or computer/laptop software? And if so which one? So many options!

I totally agree, I thought how do you choose just one out of so many. I bought and love the Autel Maxicom MK808. It seems to cover most things and will do various specific jobs like reset battery, ABS bleeding etc.

Brilliantly informative video...it was a shame that the multimeter experiment didn't quite go according to plan...but the fact that the readings were between similar parameters does say something...loved the outtakes...😂

Haha not fixed it yet lol. I’m presuming it needs another abs module. Might do a video taking it out and see whats what on it but my diagnostic equipment just went wonky on me at the end of the video so not sure which way to go now as they say a replacement module might need coding to the car.

@@spencerbrooks5311 Haha I think some of us are like bad luck magnets lol. That Peugeot Cabriolet I mended came out of the garage and was fine, the next day it was fine then while ticking over and I was cleaning it the engine destroyed itself without me even knowing. It started misfiring and I found a valve had bent and hit piston. The crank is totally locked up now !!!!!
