June 3rd, 2022. It's time to get our corn in the ground! Fieldwork 2022 continues and it's time to hook up Paul's Farmall 560 to our 4-row John Deere 7000 Corn Planter. This year our corn seed is from greenfield genetics and it's supposed to be drought-tolerant which is important on our sandy fields. Come along in the fields with Alan as he works to get our silage corn in the ground and growing.

Hope you are feeling better Alan! Glad to hear y'all didn't get any damage, these storms and weather this year has been crazy!! Good to see you are getting your corn in!! Is the 560 still running well? Seems to do pretty good on the planter, enjoyed the camera angles too!! The high speed with the tunes at the end were nice, I love that tune! Thank you very much for bringing us along!! Look fed to more!!😁😁👍👍

Your 560 that you plant with reminds me of my great grandfather's oliver 880 that I just got put back together. It's narrow front and has a long hood just like your 560. Both are great tractors very useful for planting hay season and odd jobs around the farm. I appreciate the videos and you taking the time to bring the camera along so we can see alot of what you do on your dairy farm

The manure covered the big field, about 25 acres, so that field will just get top dressed with nitrogen later, the fields that didn't get manure, got 100# of 19-19-19, in the row, and will also get top dressed later.

@farmerbill6855
@farmerbill6855 2 жыл бұрын
On a four row 7000 JD planter, the marker arms will not shorten enough to mark the center of the next pass. The arm will be so short, the angle off of the mainframe is too steep to work properly. So you set it to mark the opposite tire track on the next pass.

What row width do you plant? I used to plant 30,000 seeds per acre on 36” rows for my silage corn. This year only planting grain corn, hired it done on 30” rows so it will match up with the combine. When we talk seed here, not so much days, but heat units. Grain corn is 2750 heat unit variety, probably a 90 day corn. RR corn, cost me $310.00 CDN/bag. What did yours cost?

That is some hilly country. Do you have any erosion trouble and have you ever planted by the contour?
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 2 жыл бұрын
The erosion usually isn't to bad, we've never planted by the contour, we have such small fields, and knobby hills, I don't know how well it would work. I am thinking about planting more winter rye, to help with the erosion.
@johnnyholland8765
