Yes - She was more the type of women our Mums and Grannies were very familiar with - The Elsie Tanners were the type they all gossiped about while Hilda was no threat and if truth be told was a bit like them themselves back in the day

Great to see Hilda looking so lovely. ''Never even been in a bank.'' 🥰 Mike was often a cold-hearted corporate bugger but he also had these great moments of sweetness, understanding and pure class... Meanwhile, Emily reminds me of a character from a Jane Austen novel, more fitting for the 1880s than the 1980s. I can't understand why she considers herself homely. And Dierdre never tells her she isn't, even while encouraging her! lol

To add my two-pennyworth - I remember reading an interview in the early Noughties with one of Corrie's contemporary producers after the first lesbians were introduced to the street. And before anyone accuses me of homophobia I found the characters of Sophie Webster & her gf Sharn very likeable and at that stage the "issue" was well handled IMHO. But then this producer was quoted as saying something like if we can "educate" viewers ..." and that's where he lost me and it was also about the time the show began its sad descent from must-watch entertainment into dreary, humourless "let's put every one of society's criminals and weirdos" into our favourite street. Not only was his attitude arrogant and patronising but he completely missed the point of why Corrie had been so popular for so many years. Loving these wonderful classic episodes.

These episodes really are Gail & Brian overkill. Gail & Brian's relationship, Gail & Brian's wedding, Gail & Brian's house, Gail & Brian's baby. I shall be glad when some other characters get a look in. As for Ken and Alf, they can now start the Two Dead Wives Club.

There's an episode missing in coronation Street July 1980, it's the episode where Alf and Renee go on the driving lesson and later where the accident with the lorry happens. Maybe that episode by mistake comes on in August 1980 coronation Street. I noticed in the February 1980, there was a episode which should've been in January 1980 the episode where ken and Albert tatlock were talking whilst reading newspapers, as I said that particular episode was in the February 1980 and should've been in the January 1980 sequence episodes. I know because I've got the d.v.d of January 1980, and that's how I know. Coronation Street classic fan.

@@professionalgun6674 I'm affraid I don't know the number of the episode. But as you said, it's in the missing episode video. But I won't be watching it, it was very very devastating seen Renie in that awful accident even though that episode was filmed 42 years ago. And Madge hindley who played Renie hadn't been in coronation Street for only a couple of years! I wished the directors had kept her on for at least a few more years into the mid eighties.

I have been enjoying watching these episodes but I wasn’t looking forward to seeing the episode where Renie was killed. I remember watching it when it first aired when I was 5 years old. I found it really disturbing then. I then saw it again a few years ago and was shocked at how graphic it was. Even by todays standards it’s disturbing. I still don’t understand why they chose to not only axe Madge Hindle but then kill off a particularly gentle light hearted character in such a brutal way?
