Poor Mavis, when talking to Deidrie about imagining a dream in which she is a guest at Charles' and Diana's wedding, and Deidrie interprets it as Mavis being the bride. She's so overcome with the idea that a dream would have taken her to those dizzy heights, she envisioned the Queen glaring at her every time she licked a stamp. She can't even dare to fantasise, though of course in reality, it's something she does constantly. It's such a well written and performed scene and sums up how endlessly trapped, frustrated and curtailed she is in every way.

Yea, I loved Mavis and Derek, I know they weren't the shows favourite but they were innocent in their own dithering way. I wonder what ever happened to Mavis Wilton, I mean they mentioned that the character Elsie died in the mid 2000's (I think), but I don't know about Mavis.

Well not that weird as the character of Terry wasn't even conceived until 1983. With Jack & Vera's perpetual reckless marriage storylines it suited the writers to make out they were childless. As for the `yet to be conceived Terry` he would be coming up to his 17th birthday (born June 1964). Yep, that's according to Corriepedia and their hypercritical character guide.

I agree, ken makes watching paint dry exciting! I think she should have stuck with Mike Baldwin! I think Mike really wanted Deirdre for something more than a girlfriend, i think buying his swanky flat was prelude to enticing Deirdre to see him as settling down material! She had great fun with Mike & their storyline would have been so much fun & frivolity Esp if Deirdre had to keep tabs on The flirty Mike! Ken is so dreary and boring His face seems to always have that permanent downturned mouth & slab like expression! I couldn't see how Deirdre thought life with Ken was going to be exciting! She who is quick to laugh & smile & so easy going, she should have taken a chance with Mike I still think the writers should have brought Ray Langton back & see him & Deirdre rekindle their love. I always thought Rays character could have expanded really well! Cheers 🇬🇧👧

Genius storyline when gobby Vera becomes the wayward teenage daughter Ivy and Bert never had! The dynamics between those three characters when Vee lands in their house uninvited, are hilarious. There's Vera, grabbing the chance of some extra marital fun with Harry and to hell with the consequences, because lazy Jack takes her for granted. She's totally out of control enjoying her second childhood - the house guest from Hell! Then there's poor Bert who finds Vera as sexy as a pan scrub and sees her not so much as a woman, more a walking mouth who frequently wakes him up, and eats him out of house and home (41:09 "Hello gannet!"). And of course there's the small matter of Vera cheekily using his razor behind their locked bathroom door, and blunting it on her bikini line! But Ivy's response to the new, 'menage a trois' is funniest of all. She is actually possessive over her husband and a little bit threatened by her pal. She flies into a frenzy every time Vera's standing in front of Bert in her Woolworth's nylon nightie, or says something suggestive, or cheekily kisses him on the top of his balding head. Vera just can't help herself, she's a born flirt (Bert - "Know what I mean?!!") To most people Vera's a joke, but in Ivy's eyes she's Marilyn Monroe, with the potential to turn her beloved Bert's head. In truth, Vera's more likely to turn Bert's stomach - especially when he finds out where she's been putting his razor!

Lynne Perrie (Ivy) was said to have been "devastated" by the news of his passing. I would have thought that viewers could show a little more compassion!

I read “buttonhole” wrong at first glance. I thought “wow, I really must have missed something “😊 then I figured out what it actually said:)

I'm becoming less and less sympathetic with Elsie's self-inflicted troubles - and her self pity.

Loads of little houses had no hall or vestibule. But the big dining tables are obviously set up because it makes the scenes work better. In reality there would have been a little back room before a tiny galley kitchen. The front room would have been kept as the living room or parlour

Ivy was the most bossy irritating woman in soap and Gayle was the perfect DIL for her, whiney, never happy, and always finding fault or moaning.

All she does is whine, pout, and stomp her feet, just like she did about the house! Acts like a 2 year old! They bought that house they can’t afford, now they have the nerve to yell and whine that they don’t have any money! They should have stayed at Ivy’s or rented that affordable flat they looked at! But no, they move out to nowhere, where it takes two buses to get to work! That’s even more money, and time!
