If you are talking farmland, topsoil is generally the first foot down, what the plow has been turning for years. That first foot can go deeper depending upon the crops grown too, but it is usually easy to tell, not so much by material as by color. Dad was a soils scientist with the county extension and he showed me how the layers changed color in one of the test trenches he usually dug about 3 feet deep, like a perk test. That showed where the hardpan usually was. That hard pan was the hard end of the topsoil, which was "Growable Dirt. The lower edge of above it would not grow anything well, but it was better than the "Sterile stuff" on the other side. Every few years that hard pan needed chisel plowed deeply, with 2 foot gaps between, the 2 or 3 foot deep furrows, to break up the pan for good drainage in the clay soils we had.

Your channel, and you, have evolved to a point that I truly don't have the correct words to describe. But, if I had to use only key words to describe what I feel when watching your videos, here are the words I would use; independent, faith, spiritual, free thinker, intelligent, informative, important, heart felt, passionate, courageous, problem solver, community oriented, giving, loving, fun, enjoyable, and humanitarian. These are only some of the words that I associate with you AND the information you bring to us in your videos. I know you know how important you are in bringing all of these traits and feelings to humanity, and for that I thank you. You're a good man, Cody.

Absolutely fantastic. I am already planning a smol cabin on my place in the west woods of the property. I want to create a old school milled cedar cabin, kind of a one room approach with a lav and little prep space to cook in. Couple bunks for the family and doggo. Just something to disconnect and get out of the farm house sometimes. Krain has some good views, but nothing can compete with Mt. Fuji!

Love the series so far. Keep up the good work. If your goal is to teach how to do it affordably, I'd recommend demonstrating how to do it with simpler tools. For example, you talk about how expensive your laser level and grade rod is. A wonderful tool for sure, but demonstrate how it could be done with a water level and a stick. Then do the rest with the laser level.
