When you order a new piston you should also get a new cylinder sleeve with it. I got mine as a kit with both. Very easy to swap parts and get it working properly.

Mine is similar, but I think it's about a 2hp. I've had it about 25 years. I always thought since mine was "oil-less" that it was a sealed bellows-style system and never looked into it It seems to take longer and longer every year to reach max pressure. Now that I see your video, I'll have to explore a little more. Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful!

To me that looks like a k-0058 cylinder sleeve would work on this unit, that also comes with a piston ring. I'm pretty sure you can still get that part.

Could you explain how to remove the cover on a model 919.167241 15 gal compressor? I removed 3 screws from the side of the cover and got it to separate at the top. But, for some reason, the bottom does not separate so I can remove the cover. Btw, this one spilts from front to back.

i have a oilless air compressor that iv had for 18 yrs. yes they wear out faster than a oiled one. but u see how ez it is to fix. 15 bucks twice in 18 yrs. so yea thats fine with me

Seems to me the honing process would increase the clearance between the piston ring and the cylinder....resulting in needing an oversize ring?

Hi Dale, Have a Sears Twin Cylinder Tank Compressor. Dedicated 20Amp line. Compressor starts, fills and shuts off like it should. The problem happens when pressure drops to where it needs to rebuild pressure. Motor starts, labors hard for a few seconds and blows fuse. What would be the part I should check or replace. Compressor is lightly used, purchased 1980. Model is 106.175541. Thanks for your response!

I just made my own out of some leather & it works fine

I thought that cylinder was coated with teflon from the factory? If so, honing it has removed the coating and that is why the ring is wearing out in 3 years.

Thanks Dale, I have a 20 year old 4HP, 25 gal Craftsman, Looks a lot like yours. I used it 20 years ago running nail guns, etc. building my house. I cleaned the air filter and was using it again and it seem to run forever. would not shut off. Never got over 80 psi. I fixed the few minor air leaks at various connections. Today, I started it and went to the house to drink coffee and an hour later went back and found it still running but at only 40 psi. Let air out after checking all connections again. I took the plastic shroud off and started it, but with it running I cannot hear anything but the compressor. Turned it off and listen for any air leaks around the head. Nothing with it off. I had never ran it with the foam air filter our until today and I was expecting air to be sucket in. but it is blowing air out where the foam air filter should be. Is that normal? I can easily turn the fan by hand and see the piston going up and down. I guess time to take the head off and hopefully there is just a bad gasket there. Still wondering about the air coming out of the place where the foam air filter goes. Please let me know if this is normal and anything else you can think of. Going to hold off a little while until you possibly send a reply. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

While removing from van it tipped to the left and the round plastic behind the little hole broke (looks like exhaust) I don’t know what it’s called. Is it safe to run the compressor or how do I get it replaced. I download the manual but it does not list the parts. Hope you can help. Thanks

Your cylinder not available problem. It's likely your piston / ring etc fit other cylinders which are still available but not be exact and won't be offered because of lawsuits. I've worked back from what parts I have which fit other units and successfully obtained workable pieces.
