VLOG 329 01/26 Day 3 of my RETURN to CAMBODIA vlogumentary series. Today I will cross over into Cambodia via the Aranyaprathet Poipet border. I've always wanted to do the crossing for no other reason than just to say I did it and also, my birthplace is actually Aranyaprathet and I've never been back since I left 40 years ago, so it was kinda neat to see it as an adult.

I stumbled upon your channel by chance a few months ago. Love all your videos. I, too, used to live in the Aranyaprathet Refugees Camp for several years back in 1978-ish. Have not gone back there yet since I left to settle in the US in the early 1980. Keep up the good work. I am a fan. :-)

@saviyou, really enjoyed your vlogumentary there. I've crossed that border a couple times myself. Glad to see that you're able to document your journey, going through there. If you haven't, check out a documentary film directed by Vanna Seang. It's a must see documentary film for any Cambodian to learn about the history during the Khmer Rouge regime, and what happened then. Would love to hear your thoughts of this documentary.

Beautiful video. Best one on youtube about crossing the Cambodia/Thailand border. I want to cross the border on foot some day. It seems a little confusing and I wouldn't have somebody waiting on the other side to make sure I made it. But, I'm sure most westerners like me make it across with little trouble. Or am I wrong.. Thanks for the great video.

Love your videos about Cambodia. I felt sad that not a lot is known about local Cambodian pop culture in the Asean because unlike in other Asean countries, there are not a lot of vloggers in Cambodia. News documentaries just do not introduce a culture like how local vloggers do, thanks to the Internet. I am from the Philippines but I want to know more about our Asean neighbors.

Watching from the Philippines. Feels like home. It is an Adventure. It there are no hassles like this might as well go touring in Switzerland Or first world country. For me I like ADVENTURE. When in Rome I do as what Romans do... If Im in Germany I will do what German do. But when Im in Cambodia what shall do? Find the convenience of American travel? Its not an adventure anymore. I like your video. An adventure, traveling to this places.

Did you have to register your drone? Also did you go through Bangkok? I am coming to Thailand in April and would like to just get it in. I was plan on flying in Cambodia as laws are more flexible. Any info would be helpful.
@saviyou
@saviyou 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I flew into Bangkok (BKK). No need to register the drone...you won't be bothered unless you're doing something ridiculous like flying it near the royal palace. Make sure you have an address for the visa. I used a hotel address. From Bangkok you can take a bus to The Aranya-Poipet border if Cambodia is on your itinerary.
@vigilance71

Thanks so much for the information. I have been trying since July to get registered. Costa Rica I had no issues. So I will be taking it and see how it goes. As long as customs does not have issue, I should be ok.

When you travel in other part of the world like Thailand or Cambodia, be careful with your belonging. You always place your school backpack in front, not behind you. Be careful with your cellular phone. They might snatch it from your hand. Safe travel and good luck.

I honestly had no clue at the time what the procedure was I literally went there and winged it. But it isn’t complex just follow the signs. On the Poipet side there’s an customs office where you need to show your visa. Not sure if they’re doing visa on arrival anymore but you should have an evisa anyway.

It is my suggestion , if you go anywhere maybe you show more about a local food . People who travel these days are looking to watch KZfaq mostly for foods and nice beach or beautiful nature including animals . If you can show them where , how good and delicious the foods are and beautiful beach and so on they will watch your KZfaq eventually including me .

bro, that's crazy! even if I were with you & tried to do this crossing, I would not go! just hearing you say the military arrested the guy from the bus would scare me. glad your cuz intercepted you at the perfect moment. I watched some korean vlogger that lives in saigon busses it over to cambodia to teach english, not sure what he's doing now, his vlogs were starting to annoy me. Also saw quite a few expats living in thailand & vietnam going over to cambodia to do visa runs, guess they had to leave wherever they lived & go to another country to do some type of travel proving they left counrty & re=entered to renew their status. still not sure how & what is done, don't quote me on it.

Savi, aren't you nervous when you are in Thailand and don't speak the language? Especially since you said you were born in the refugee camp in Thailand, and how we were treated so badly by the Thai securities. Man... After almost 40 years I still have nightmares of life living in the refugee camp. I escaped twice to Thailand, and the first time I got deported through Dongrak mountain, and survived the horror. The second time I also got through. I still haven't forgiven the Thai government for what they did to our Khmer people as of yet. Thanks for the video.

Savi, Are you travelling through Thai & Khmer border alone? I want to cross it someday, but not alone. I need family and friend with me. In December 2017, I toured Poi Pet border via the car, not getting off. You're so courageous to do it alone? We encountered with one stupid Khmer border policeman who wants to stop our van for some reason. But, my driver told him we just toured the border. I was a little bit upset with this guy who tried to rob us in the day time. No manner this policeman. Just want to make easy money from the people.

Yes I traveled alone to meet my nephew in Poipet. We get stopped by Thai military once and he took someone from our bus. But at the border no problems. Seems like Aran-Poipet border is not too much trouble anymore.
