@@Japanalysis Oh ! 😲😲 Your command of our Aussie idioms is very impressive 😆 Canada is awesome BTW, I spent a few weeks there from Vancouver (urrghh), Squamish (WOW) to Toronto (loved it !) It's the only country I've seen that rivals Japan's natural beauty 👍

I know it's just a dad joke, but I still hope it's helpful to note that だけに is not the same as だけが. Whereas XだけがY means "Only X does Y" (which looks like what you went with in your translation), XだけにY is more like "It's X so it's Y". In these dajare where people link two things with だけに, the logical connection is usually as loose as "It's Y just like how it's X (in a metaphorical way) (if you don't think too hard about it)". That said, if the translated joke works then I guess it doesn't matter very much!

@@Japanalysis Oops, looks like my reply didn't get through because I included a link. Unfortunately, I didn't find anyone directly explaining why だけに is commonly used in puns (although I did find many people asking the question). The most helpful thing I found was the goo dictionary's thesaurus page for だけに, which has detailed explanation of its original usage compared to だけあって and ばかりに. My guess is that since it literally means "to the extent of", it's so vague that people find it convenient for drawing any kind of loose association.

The Geodude one got attention overseas too some time ago. I still love that photo. I know it's a bit old but the meme with the Kumamoto mascot doing like a chant with a fire behind it is one of my favorite japanese memes, I would love to see it in one of the videos!

It's really such a 細かい thing, but FMA being my favorite anime, I wanted to correct a meaningless mistake. When you were showing the image of Ed saying 「持って行かれた」, he was actually just referring to his leg. He didn't realize his brother was also taken away yet. Anyway, thanks for the video!

Interestingly, there are custom English fonts that look like handwriting (even supporting slightly different versions for each character to fake human inconsistency during writing). It is highly likely that there is something similar for Japanese characters as well.

There are a lot of English language channels that make videos about Japanese culture, food, language learning, or cool places to visit, but yours is the only one that presents something like this meme series you're doing. It's refreshing to hear about something as casual as what silly memes ordinary people are sharing instead of the glamourous travel vlogs to places unrealistic for you to visit and intimidating lessons on what not to say or do to avoid shame and embarrassment.

日本人は昔から外国人(と言っても主に西洋人に対してですが)の日常やどんな風に考えているのかみたいなことについて興味があって、それについての玉石混交な媒体や商売があったのですが、2000年以降、特に2010年以降は外国人が日本(人)の日常について知りたがるようになってきたように感じます。 よく日本人のことを紹介する番組があるのですが、ああいうのは日本人からすると半分本当で半分は嘘かもしくは本当のことを伝えきれていないという感じですね。 日本人がどういうことを考えているのかが最も表れているのは日本人が日本人の間で書いているネットの書き込みですね。 KZfaqのコメント欄はまだ甘いです。まだ気遣いや忖度などがあって本音が出ていないことが多いです。 最も本音が見えるのが5ちゃん(2ちゃん)の書き込みかなと思います。5ちゃんでは日本人が思ったままのことを思ったまま書いている割合が高いです。 なので日本人が何を思考しているかを一番知れるのは5ちゃんを読める日本語読解能力を会得して5ちゃんを読みまくることだと思うのですが、おそらく投稿者の方はかなり読める力があると思われますが、ほとんどの方は読めないと思うので、そういったあたりを紹介してもらえたら役立つのかなと思います。
