Day 781 - Downright Happy Rag, Martha Mier - Piano Progress

2 жыл бұрынThis downright happy rag left me far from happy when trying to record it. 51 attempts?! I think that is a new record. And I appear to play it about half the tempo everyone else does. There is clearly an issue with my stamina as I would always tend to mess up the ending, which is the same as the section at the start.

The first and last were the best. 🤦♂️ In hindsight, I could have just stopped after one and saved myself a load of time and no one would have known any different.

I love when you nail a piece, the rythms and the feeling is all there, then you start recording and it immediately sounds stilted and you get that head panic

Yes, the pressures of recording are real. My teacher told me about a piano event she was helping some of pupils with. It got cancelled due to Covid and the participants were given a choice to record a piece or do a live stream. Many opted to record, thinking that would be the easier option. After if was over they reported back that trying to get the recording was really stressful. And next time they’d probably just do the live stream. That way what’s done is done. There is no going back to fix things that aren’t quite right. I’m sure playing live has its own pressures. But at least it’s over after you have played the piece once.

@@DanielLearnsPiano Probably. But if you screw up, and DONT hit stop on the recording and just let it roll as you attempt the piece again, the pressure is probably alleviated. Maybe. Do you do that? Great playing btw

@@DanielLearnsPiano I suggest that you practice the ending many times first even though it’s in the beginning too. Many times repeats are the most difficult because we become either overconfident or lose the edge of our concentration. Be patient, it is paying off. Some days are better than others, it’s the learning process.

I edited it out at the end but I actually gave my piano the finger. As if that had anything to do with my issues.

That's really nice mate. My hopes are to be able to play at a similar level by two years. I've started studying for the ABRSM Initial Grade level, learning such greats as "Old MacDonald" & "Bobby Shafto" lol BUT!!! We all got to start somewhere eh ; ) Keep the vids a popping man, they're an inspiration to me and countless others.

Go for it! You won’t be playing that stuff for long. The beginner phase in playing the piano lasts a long time. I’d say I’m still a medium-late beginner. You just gotta put in the hours and progress will come.
