Decisions are hard for 2 reasons

basically it feels that for me making decisions can be tricky because of 2 things. the size of the impact, and the ammount of unknowns..
there are decisions that can improve our life but sometimes there just feels like a huge element of risk for some people, others, are able to blindly jump into an experience and fair play to them..

Do what you believe to be right, say what you believe to be true. You either win or you learn.

I was 27 when I went back to school. I felt older than everyone else, but luckely there was 3 of us older at the same time (I was the youngest of the 3). It was the most fun time of my life I think. With experience of working, I just plowed through the courses. We studdied software engineering and I was already working in software. But the two others wasn’t. Both working as audio techiciants if I remember correctly. Anyhow the 3 years come and went, I went back to my employeer, the other two got work as software developers at different companies. Last I seen them, they still working in software earning good. This was 19 years ago.

Well said Adam :) I think the key is to found a balance to knowns and unknowns. Too much known can make someone feel stuck in personal development and too many unknowns can lead to potentially receiving too many negative energy or being just overwhelmed by discomfort. Finding that balance is hard, but one thing I have learnt my self is to never write a entire day off because of a negative experience within that mere moment. You have the ability to literally start again at any given time and even if the morning was awful if you don’t just say “this day is a write off” you have the ability to reset and have a fantastic afternoon. Key is to let the past emotions wash passed and focus on the current experience. I’m still struggling to maintain this myself, but the ability to realise “hey I’m lost in thought about a previous experience” is the first step to really taking your power of attention and directing it to the present moment.

"People pleasing" is a behaviour which draws extremely much energy (and time) from you and often works in contradiction to ones actual inner wishes. Quite sure I myself got it from my mother. It has taken many years to fully realise it though and it will probably take a while more to fully get rid of it. EDIT: I'm 44 myself btw.

Need to make some decisions in my life right now but I'm unable to because of fear. Everytime I made a decision in the past it was the wrong decision for me. 😢

This is one of my biggest set backs also. Unfortunately it just reinforces things negatively and makes you pretty stuck 😣

what you said about therapist is absolutely true, i also discovered while talking to one the amount of abuse i experienced, pretty crazy how they analyze stuff that we dont really see or understand.

I’m 52 married mother of 3. After high school I went to university, did a degree I wasn’t really interested in, I had low self confidence and pretty much took every suggestion and opportunity that came my way and tried my best to look the part, but actually never felt happy or fulfilled in my work or what I ended up studying. Ended up having 3 children in my 30s, stopped working and became a stay at home parent. Luckily my husband could support us. Being a mother has given me the most confidence and sense of achievement. But I’ve never had that in a work sense. Although I understand the discomfort of doing things that you know aren’t a good fit or your preferred direction, these are uncertain financial times. Would it be possible for you to work and study part time? Having some relatively regular work & income might help your self esteem. Could you work & study part time? If you know you are doing the work for your own reasons - financial stability but acknowledge its not what you want long term maybe it will feel like a more deliberate choice and not as though you are just following someone else’s suggestion. And be really deliberate with the rest of your time to work towards your longer term goals?

Without doubt there is a lot of information to gather and process in order to find that balance to be able to transition. I agree with you about an income at some level being important. Ironically it is a positive to seeing how the degree wasn't the right path as that was going to drastically reduce any time I had to put into work, while also costing substantially more than the other more direct pathway.

@@Add- having not had my own income for the past 12 years I am becoming more conscious of the self esteem that comes from simply having a job. And being able to say to other people ‘I work at ‘…’. The longer you’re out of the workforce and older you get the harder it can be to get back in. Maybe it would be good to keep your hand in it before too much time passes by. But you need to feel as though you’re also able to work towards what you really want to do. I guess if you think the other more direct pathway is likely to lead to work but requires all your time that may be the better option. Maybe you could ask a recruitment agency or careers counsellor about how that particular job market is trending.

Thats just it, from my findings the more direct pathway potentially takes less time in a week (with an unknown on study hours outside of the classroom which are important) which would allow a more flexible work/study balance at least on paper. The path i wish to take requires me to do a level 2, 3 and 4. But there are all 1 full day physically learning times a week. Going through a version of the level 2 now I know it is way more work than simply 1 day, but its giving me an understanding of the workload so that I am able to understand the hours that I could put into working alongside the study. With the level 4 you need placement hours and you can start to take paid work in the area.. in the perfect world I have identified a path that potentially puts me on the level 4 starting mid to late end of 2024. So even if I can work part time up to that point, as you say mid, it would definitely help with the self esteem side of things and much more! Its 100% a more realistic position i would rather be in, that balance, than to fully go into study and stress about the income side of things
