Sludge in the oil pan and pickup can be terrible. I bought a Fiat Spider in the USA. I serviced it right a way. And it ran well. After a while I realized something was wrong. When we removed the pan the damage had been done: The pan had a ton of sludge in it. The pickup was nearly clogged and the oilpump was very dirty as well. This car had not been maintained well for ages and now the engine needs to be overhauled. It seems in the USA many people think oil changes are unneccesary.

In defense of Americans, the enthusiasts change their oil, but there are always people who neglect their cars all over the world! This particular car suffered from sitting more than driving. Thanks for watching.

Kinda makes me want to pull the 308's pan next time I'm doing an OC. I'd like to think it doesn't look that nasty, but I wouldn't be shocked to find it was.

It's probably not a bad idea. I was surprised how much sludge was in that pan for a car with so few miles, but then again, it could be the reason why there was so much sludge! Thanks for watching.

It might have been interesting for u to comment if oil P had improved and/or stabilized after the cleanup ? Also, whether this car initially ran Agip in it's early life and what are you using now? Thanks.

It would have been hard to prove any quantitative improvement, as I think the small adjustment of the oil pick up or the removal of the sludge would have shown up in any way that you could measure. I would imagine, small bits of sludge would eventually get washed away with future oil changes, and the sticky baffle door may only affect oil pick up at extreme cornering. Cleaning everything out, and making sure things are working properly just gave me and the owner peace of mind knowing the oil is being allowed to work properly without dirt or problems in the baffling. Castrol 20-50 is what I use.
