I remember this ride quite well.

This was one of my favorite rides and it felt very futuristic at the time. There was nothing else like it and I loved the feel of gliding on air. It was closed for repair often but I was still super bummed when they got rid of it.

So did I! I grew up near Disneyland and always looked forward to our annual trip and a ride on the saucers! Interesting that most of my old friends don't remember it.

My husband worked as an imagineer at Disney. The ride was closed down because it was a constant maintenance nightmare.

I didn't know they were supposed to have a joystick. I've experienced that attraction twice and never would have guessed. I did know it was a recreation of the flying saucers and am really glad they did- it's a lot of fun.

When I was small boy my dad and I went on the flying saucers ride and it was a lot of fun but I also remember that the Flying Saucers would sometimes group altogether and a cast member would be holding what looked like a giant hockey stick hooking around the saucers and trying to separate them from each other and pushing them toward the middle of the grid! I saw Lugi's Flying Tires just yesterday on KZfaq and felt that if it is overcrowded like I think it was for its size, could be trouble!

I think space mountains dome replicates the saucers chair

Just a note - the Luigi's Flying Tires vehicles are considerably larger than the original Flying Saucers, and if memory serves from just a few months back, just as (if not more) maneuverable as well.

Luigi's is a weak recreation of the Flying Saucers

Interesting look at a ride that never had the time to shine. Did it suffer the same problems Lugi's Flying Tires?

The rumor I read was that Walt lost his expensive sunglasses on the ride and that was the end of it. I took it once, it was the most amazing ride ever, I had been waiting YEARS to get to the height required. It was the most fun, ever, and an E ticket of course. Next year I returned and it was gone. I’ve heard Luigi’s Flying Tires was a pale imitation, and John Lasseter ALSO loved Flying Saucers, and he brought it back as Luigi’s. Sadly, WIkipedia says that Luigi’s Flying Tires is now closed too, and was replaced.

Didn't Arrow develop the Flumes for It's a Small World and Pirates?

This is awesome... I never saw this before although I was born in '77. So where in the park was this located? I was trying to decipher that in the video but didn't get 100% conclusion on it. Anyone remember?

This ride was located where Space Mountain is. Maybe not quite as far back but generally there. It was a big broad open spaced area before they built the Tomorrowland Stage (which no longer exists either - at least in it's original location.

I loved it too, but people probably got too many whiplashes on it as you would get 'hit' with no place to support your back! : (

If you thought this ride sucked back then when people were the proper weight, imagine it now that everyone is obese.

This may be a great ride in the 70's. I don't mean to touch on a sensitive subject, but America currently at a high obesity weight. I went to California Adventure last month (july) and i noticed most adults and children are on the heavier weight side. With that said, Lugi's Flying Tires wouldn't be as fun as it would've been back in the 1970's. As I saw this video, some tires were actually bouncing; that looked fun. They move a hell of a lot faster than what I witnessed on Lugi's Flying Tires.
