Carry down without using urethane. I've been arguing this with folks for 2 years. There is no way 100% of the oil will be absorbed by your ball. Some oil is being redistributed on every shot thrown.
@kylemc8851

Why are you arguing with people about bowling?
@XenoGuru
@XenoGuru 8 ай бұрын
@kylemc8851 Because too many bowlers complain or make excuses about one thing or another. One of the biggest is that urethane messes up their recovery spot down lane. All bowling balls carry down oil. If the spot gets ornery, you have to change zones, angles, or equipment to combat it. The primary amount of complainers are normally "one dimensional" bowlers who don't have a full arsenal of different shots.

This I a great video. So many people don't know or understand what you just showed. A buddy who bowls was over and we happened to throw the PBA on, where you can see the oil. Most house shots I bowled on would dry out as they were just applying more oil on the front before each league and there was already carry down. Before one league where they stripped the lanes before they oiled them, there was no oil on the back end so that caused what you described. As a right hander, I would keep moving right the first game or two as the oil carried down. Eventually some the oil would dry and I would start moving left. Most of the alleys I bowled would strip the lanes once a week. There was always that one day each week where the lanes would score the best. This was 20 years ago so I don't know if this is still common today.
@peteg475

That's an excellent point that I never considered, and you don't hear talked about much. How often does bowling center management strip off the carrydown oil on the lane between the pattern and the pins?
@grillmaster95
@grillmaster95 2 жыл бұрын
@@peteg475 I bet it's not too often. Always come into league and just feel like the lanes are murky rather than having clean backends even during practice. Along with never wiping any oil off the pin deck, it can lead to some tough time scoring with pins sliding that should probably be falling.

Can you explain the difference between reactive and urethane effects this transition? Also, difference between dull and shinny surfaces?
@insidebowling
@insidebowling 2 жыл бұрын
Urethane flares less which will keep more oil where the ball is rolling. This oil will move down lane faster than an oil-absorbent bowling ball coverstock. Same goes for shiny vs dull. Good question!
@horseshoe_nc
@horseshoe_nc 2 жыл бұрын
@@insidebowling flair is how much the axis of rotation changes, correct?
@Dainslaif
@Dainslaif Жыл бұрын
@@horseshoe_nc Kinda - it's the trail of oil left on your ball from the spin axis changing as the weight block settles into it's preferred spin axis. The more the spin axis changes, the more the ball can turn during this transition because it's essentially using more fresh ball surface (and thus more flare). The less the spin axis changes, the more used ball surface touches the lane again (and thus less flare), which pushes the oil down more.

Hello. Yes what he is saying is right. And I think of that awesome singer Carol King when I hear him talking about how lanes do change when your bowling, and that's why I don't waste money on bowling because there are no pro bowlers who are better than any other pro bowler, or even non-pro bowlers because it's a game of uncertainty which is called the uncertainty Principle devised by Heisenberg. i think of that song: It's so far-away, doesn't anybody stray in one place anymore. Well that's why I just don't need to prove anything to anybody much less some local-yocal pro-bowler like Pete Weber for instance. But I wouldn't bowl unless the lanes stayed the same all of the time because I don't really need to move continually because I like to know that if I throw a good ball it will be a Strike, and in real life it's not so i'm stuck not ever having to prove myself because it's no contest anymore. I don't need to do it unless i'm having fun. And it's okay to do it for fun so as long as your not spending much money. I haven't bought a ball in 20 years or so, so there you know where I stand. Although bowling is a game of Spares and I learned that years ago. And I guess that's because lanes change, and nobody can blame the commission for the facts that the lanes change, and I don't know whether anybody can make a lane3 that doesn't change, and I guess that remains to be seen as of yet. Also I have bowled long enough to know that carry is crucial, but the amount of carry depends upon how much oil is on the lane, or how much room you decide to give the ball based on how much oil and how slow or fast that you throw it. However once one gets that worked out then he must get that hook at the very end right to get a strike, and that's the problem. How much room, how hard to throw it, and make sure that it carries first and then hooks always because it doesn't matter if it hits brooklyn, or even through the nose, and that's because it carries and it hooks right, and thus that cancels where you hit it out because you have enough hook and carry to begin with. Well hope this helps you. I agree that carry is everything though he's right.

Exactly then multiply this by 2 teams of 5 bowlers on a pair of lanes, say all are right handed and after the first game the carry down is apparent and I end up moving right a few boards but usually add a bit of ball speed or loft the ball out a bit more and still have a nice shot!
@jvmiller1995

I play that faithful down and in from the 10 board right off. But so does everyone else on my team and half the teams we bowl. Learning to really keep the elbow rotated in and stay behind the ball more and I found I have a powerful roll with little hook but more a snap at the end . For me that is keeping the ball from the 11 to the 20. Anything out side the 10 is going to scream back left because the oil is gone and their is early friction. Stay behind it and it goes longer before turning and mostly the ball is not burning up its energy and not carry. Low rev players need to concentrate their game to play in the oil more I think. You would think the opposite, but you do not always need a huge angle and a forward roll also means a little more speed and that is not always bad. Having multiple attacks angles and even balls to change to with less surface. To me it is a must if you want to really hold anything north or 200 average. Lot of good tips for us to learn from on you tube at the moment. This is just as good and even better than others. You guys have helped my average a bunch. Remember don't be afraid to move or ball placement 5 or 10 boards in.

So true. Game one OK, Game Two, Excellent, Game Three, Mediocre. That carry down can make a huge impact at the end, at least for my game, trying to catch a good line when 4 out of 6 bowlers carry the same line can make for an exciting game. For some reason my Black Widow becomes a straight ball by the third game, very difficult to get any hook out of it.

That's hard to answer very specifically as the ball choice could depend on the oil pattern being used, the lane surface and the individual bowlers ball speed, rev rate and ball roll. Sometimes as the oil moves and the lanes transition a bit the correct adjustment could be using the same ball but making moves laterally with the feet and target. @insidebowling
@insidebowling 2 жыл бұрын
Good question and the answer may be different for different individual bowlers. Some have success moving further inside and then slowing the ball speed down and going more around the shot. This could at some point involve and equipment change as well to help create the correct shot shape. Others may find better success moving a bit further right and playing more of the hold that's been created down lane while keeping the speed up. Thanks for watching and thanks for the question!

No matter where I played way left or way right I would wrap or flat 10. So I ball up from iq tour to phaze 4 and 4-9 stone 9 etc. didn’t know if there was a good ball for carry down or if there was a move that I didn’t try but I tried everything it felt like and I couldn’t get around it.

While this is true for the lanes you were bowling on in this video. Am I to assume this holds true for every type of lane? Not every lane is the same brand, surface etc.. It is a big assumption to think this pertains to every lane. What about the type of balls being thrown? I think there are more variables to consider when determining the cause of carry down. Though I agree the effects are likely similar.

Yes, the left side of the lane is untouched but doesn’t mean it’s easier, even with the right handers having to move. If transition always made the lanes harder then the first game for righties would statistically be the highest. But it’s not and that’s because sometimes (and especially on sport patterns in my opinion) the transition makes the lanes a lot easier giving righties an advantage over lefties.

I use a solid reactive asym and I notice that after a couple games on fresh my ball loses some reaction down lane. Is that because of carry down or because my ball is now using up too much energy early where there is less oil and so it runs out of gas at the backend? Although both factors play a role, which condition makes a bigger difference?
@the_crusty_ledge

it's buring up in the front of the lane. . as you remove head oil , oil at the front of the lane, the ball doesn't skid through the front enough building up rotation. . less oil on the front it starts gripping and slowing down even 10-15 feet down the lane. this is why you have to keep moving into the oil with the front angle , to keep the back half reaction. once the head oil is gone you have to get out of that ball an into something that gets through the fronts on it's own.
