I know nothing of Dragons Dogma 2, I only got this because I saw the controversy and saw people defending it and got curious myself, and I can say confidently it is one of my top games now. People are throwing a fit over nothing, yes microtransactions are bad and super annoying, but they are also USELESS in this game, you can get like 5,000RC from just running around for a few hours, and capcom has always had micro transactions in most games, Dragons Dogma 1 as it turns out, HAD MICROTRANSACTIONS. I don't believe the people complaining that Capcom lied and deceived people by not mentioning them, because IT WAS OBVIOUS THERE WOULD BE SOME, they didn't need to tell us because they've been doing it! The only fault I'd give the game is the shit PC launch, which was unplayable for most people. and the game being locked at 30fps is divisive, it's not the biggest deal for me personally, but I can understand why people who paid for a $70 game would expect 4k 60fps.

The pawn system, combat and world exploration (the design) is really where it shines. Any other aspects is garbage or mediocre at best.

Hearing "Into Free" at the end gave me that bittersweet happy feeling, kind of like how I feel about this game. I don't like a lot of the little changes from the first game, but I am so happy we even got a DD2. And I did enjoy it...just not as much as I hoped (speaking as a massive fan of the first game). I even kind of hoped we might get "Into Free" back as an act of love to us giga fans, but alas, I was found to be a fool, as I frequently am. Thanks for including it in your video, along with your very fair and well-considered take on the game.

monster spawn in city is not a bug is a feauture lol. also i think the combat is fine but gets too easy overtime to the point you feel you steam roll anything. my first drake kill was so silly that felt like a cheat, mounted with the thief then spam that heart with kisses lol. there is no challenge after the initial hours game lacks that. also i liked more grigori sorry the dragon this time around sucks is not given proper time to shine.

the way guards and townsfolk speak of monsters in cities i thought that was ajusta mechanic

I had fun with it but considering the price rather short mind you I didnt do every side quest and max out all vocations. I got like almost 50 hours out of it (48.5)

Kudos to the Capcom marketing team. They convinced casual gamers that this game was for them, sold it to them, knowing the entire time that there were features that they were going to hate. A masterclass in deception and money taking ability. The mixed reviews come from people who thought they were getting an updated Skyrim, but got a Japanese take on Western Fantasy.

On note of Capcoms history of microtransactions, in another case as bad as Asuras Wrath, the original Launch versions of Dragons Dogma were incompatable with the Dark Arisen expansion and the game would have to be repurchased at full price for all of us who supported the game from Day One

Played almost 200 hours. As a fan of the first game.. this one is a 9, first one.. i love it so much more, but still a 9. Everyone has their opinions and these 2 games remain in my top 5, counting i played most action rpgs, all soulslikes, turn-based rpgs and mostly fantasy games.. i gotta say thank you Itsuno. I don't care much about critics, the flaws are overshadowed by what i like about the game, even if the story is ass and superficial, the Lore keeps me going.

The microtransactions were not a thing for me... The stuff is not only dirt cheap, but it isn't even needed. The performance issue is a thing, though I didn't notice it honestly. Though I do love the game, the issues I have with it.... Too easy, way too easy. They claimed this game would be harder than the first... It's not. The gear was handled better and looked cooler in the first game. They said they didn't want people going for the same gear... You do pretty much. Everfall was so much better than Unmoored World, as was the gear you found, way more fun and challenging. I wish they brought over many elements from the MMO DD, like the way the housing was done, the pawn crafting things for you while you're offline. Would have been nice to see your pawns bring things back, as I've seen my pawn walking around the world, when I was on my friend's account. 🤣 "Tiddy birds" Also like the PS2 music weeeee

I have over 205hrs, 100% achievements and 5 playthroughs. Still plenty of unique quests, outcomes and dialogue that I missed. I think the biggest issue of this game is that after a decade, we were expecting Dragon's Dogma 2 but got Dragon's Dogma 1.5 instead. I love the game and in my heart it is a 10/10, but I can see and point out the many, many flaws that plague the title and why it might be more of a 7/10 objectively. All of the systems and mechanics from the first title finally got polished and implemented in a finished state, so that is a huge step forward, yet all of the content, systems, lore and design stuff from Dark Arisen got completely scraped and ignored, so in that way it feels like a huge step backwards. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who didn't play the original or didn't like it, since it is an almost word for word repeat of the highest highs and the lowest lows of the first one. So if you loved the original, you'll LOVE this one, but if you hated it, well... I found 80% of the online criticism to be just dumb since lots of people finishing it in 30/40hrs are making lots of outright false and defamatory claims/statements about the game because they essentially skipped through the entirety of it just to get to the finish line, missing basically 80% of the content in the process. To put it into perspective, you can finish the game in 4hrs if you know what to do and where to go, the remaining 95% is optional and up to the player to engage with it. Enjoy the journey, the finish line is NOT the real destination.

Yes it’s that bad. I don’t even care about the micro transactions or the performance. As is, the game feels unfinished at worst and a downgrade from the first game at best. Its strengths of course, is the early game when you’re discovering new monsters and hunting them in real time. But as you get stronger, and enemies start to repeat themselves, and this feeling turns into a grind. A grind that inevitably doesn’t reward you since you quickly get a surplus of every “ rare” upgrade material, and the game basically hands you every item if you have the gold to buy it, which you soon will, so there’s also no incentive to explore. The worst is the narrative the game provides. There are more cities but they feel emptier than grand Soren. The quests feel 25 years out of date and don’t give you anything good. The dialogue and characters are generic and bland. I actually thought Captain Brant was secretly evil because he just lays out his intentions so plainly on the table, in public no less! The forced diversity and the same accent carrying over every aspect of society and region makes everything feel fake. There are role playing mechanics like brothels and houses that simply don’t do anything but waste your one resource: gold. The pawn guild got a huge downgrade, in favor of adding the worst feature you can add in open world games: collectathon seeker tokens. Something you should only add after everything else. The quests are antithetical to the core gameplay experience: hunting monsters. And have you instead doing tail missions, fetch quests, and broken eavesdropping in a big unfinished castle with janky stealth. Once you reach Batahl, the game shits itself and all narrative caddance just disappears, like they ran out of a budget. They throw a bunch of random incoherant end game trailer moments at you, and then the game abruptly ends. There is no everfall, instead they dry up the ocean so you can “explore” that, although it’s oddly more hallway simulator than ever. And there are no new enemies other than two bosses who are glitched btw and they only have one attack each. And a literal joke asset that just sits in one place and spawns goblins. It feels actively unfinished. Not even just flawed like the first game was at launch

I will say something a bit controversial. It's good infact great. Most fun I had this year. But...I still perfer Dark Arisen. Heck After sinking in 140 hrs into this game I went on to play Dark Arisen.

I spent 200+ hours by now playing the f****** game. No, it's not a bad game it's hard to put down for some reason, just like the last game dark arisen.

if you don't want people to not want to fast travel try not giving your npcs repetitive dialogue Pawns should have been loaded with content they're one of the best things about this game, give us more than 5 enemy types no making the bird stun me instead of putting me to sleep is not a new enemy type it's just a harpy with extra steps. the game also has a thing for taking control away from the character if I get grabbed by a ogre or cyclops I should be able to shake out being downed should also have a free yourself mech and there should be a stun immunity timer so you don't get combo'd endlessly. game needs 3 times the enemies that it has even the ones at night are basically just bandits to be acceptable Capcom has the resources and the materials people liked monster hunter you've already showed you are willing to take assets from monster hunter with the dragon's roar it's basically pitch shifted Nergigante roar hell the griffin is a pitch shifted huggy / kissy from poppy play time

Pretty solid review, as someone who's wayyy to into the first game, and put a shit ton of time into this, including maxing all vocations (Except Trickster, I'll do that later.) and getting the true ending, glad to see that it wasn't just shit on because of Capcoms shitty dlc shit they've BEEN doing since Asura' Wrath and even DMC 5. As much as I love the game, I agree on waiting until there a few patches out for performance.
