I do that technique with my girl holding both arms out until eye contact then reward. I taught my girl to follow with eye contact with treat in hand staying focus on my hand at all times when very young. Then eased into the look command 👌

The relationship aspect is so important. I cannot agree more and it's great you add that. Having a tight relationship with your dog creates bonding and trustability. If the trustability is not there, forget about it. For people who are training recall one important thing I want to add is DO NOT PUNISH YOUR DOG if it chooses to ignore you and you eventually have it at your side. There is always a safety zone around you when you say the word come. When in the safety zone no corrections.

My wife gives me eye roll when I say “leadership is love”, but it’s working so far. Heel walking and non reaction walk is still a challenge, though. She’s(the dog) is just so happy to see everyone

Videos are great. Love the triangle building, 1st time I’ve seen it described like this but it’s so true. It takes a decent level of time to build those layers but it’s the basis of everything you do with your dog. Well behaved dogs off lead is such an important part of their lives and behaviour, they will never get a decent level of mental stimulation if they are hitched on the leash.

Thank you Will for your informative videos they are very helpful.I have three dogs so need all the help I can get.We are doing pretty well on re call though sometimes the dogs get distracted especially the two youngsters.🤗🐕💟

Love your videos. You break things down so that anyone can learn how to train their dog. I have a 10 month old English staffy who's recall is sitting at about 90%. When she's off lead at the park she will come back with a simple name call and whistle and she can walk past other dogs without running up to them but every now and again she will see a dog in the distance and will run after them and no matter how I try to call her back she doesn't listen. Luckily she's extremely friendly and submissive with other dogs but my fear is she will run up to another dog who isn't so friendly. Tips? Advice? Thanks

Another great video! Our corgi’s recall is decent, he will always come back immediately. However, if he sees another dog, he’s gone! Can’t get his attention until he’s met the other dog. He’s fine with people or on his own 🤷🏼‍♂️. Any advice?

Hey Will, my dog does not look up to me for guidance and direction. He does listen to his commands but it is 50/50. Can you please help me and tell me what to do to build leadership with my dog, so he looks at me for guidance and direction.

Yep..the issue with my dog is in that foundation of leadership. But 2023 is the year ! I'm nervous when I'm not in the farm with him. I'm nervous because he's powerful and insecure. I'm just feeding his need to guard with my weakness. Funny we have none of these issues on the farm.😂 👍❤🇨🇦

So, how would you suggest overcoming prey drive Will? I’m getting great recall 9 times out of 10, but the sight of a cat or fox and off they go 🤦‍♂️

use preydrive in play. keep that preydrive close, manage by keeping an eye out for 'prey' and recall before they react and onto the preydrive toy (ie flirt pole or lure) build up to more difficult situations so they are actually taught gradually what to do. if you ignore or avoid preydrive you never practice what to do when you face it. (one study showed that dogs are more likely to chase sheep/prey when its the first time they encounter it than all the time afterwards, so why wait for that first time?)

@@ThePenguin369 I will also add use the various lengths of lead. Off leash in many countries is illegal. Short lead in relaxed form, and direct in circular motions. I will post that video.

Please help me out! So I have 2 dogs. Both are very smart and are actually pretty well behaved. Sit, shake, lay down, stay, knows what he friends means, leave it (most of the time) and they have a pretty decent recall. They sometimes take a few recalls. It’s like they’ll hear it and kind of start towards me but they are definitely slow and sometimes needs a second or 3rd calling. Now if there’s a distraction then they have ZERO recall. Why is this? And also should I train them separately? Together? Superset at first and then transition into together?

Hi shea, my German shepherd has just had his second jab and has been on two walks, straight away he is relentlessly pulling on the lead and isn't really tempted by treats. Do you think using a slip lead is okay for him? I've seen so many trainers use them and succeed but then I see from vets and other people saying they're dangerous for dogs. I want to use one but just not sure if it's suitable for a puppy or not. Would love to know your opinion.

Hi, Love your videos but I must be doing something wrong with my Collie. Worse behaviour at present is trying to chase cars, I feel one day I make progress and next day shes just forgot it all. Did I hear in a different video you are from Alfreton?

Hi there! I have two Westies, one of them is a 16 yr old female, and last year we added a new puppy, who just turned 1 yr old yesterday. He is the typical Westie with the Westitude many people knows😃. This means that he learns very quickly, but chooses to do come whenever he wants, most of the time. He can stay outside for hours. If we allow him ( which it’s not the case), but he is very stubborn to be convinced to come inside. He became worse, instead of better. I really don’t know when this changed, as he was very easy to follow instructions. My 16 yr old female is still the “boss”, but he every so often tries to be the alpha dog, and then it turns into a fight, which I can break it up easily, and put him back in his place. I’d love to hear from you with your thoughts on how to get my pup to listen to me again, as he did in his first 8-9 months of age. He can be aggressive at times, even with me.

Thankfully our now-10-month-old spaniels have almost been pretty good off-lead; unfortunately it means our training and commands haven't been as formalised.

I have a 4 year old Red Heeler. No official training. She is very anxious, barks at anything, pulls on the leash and sends to want to attack other dogs or people. I have tried slip lead but she pulls that too. Any suggestions?

I have 9 1/2 month old lab. And in noticed when I call him with the command “chandler come” he isn’t responding to his name like at all. So I tried just calling his name and he is not very responsive to it. He is 75will/25wont on recall atm. Any tips on how to improve this?

Seems like a great trainer, but how do I get my dog to not run the neighborhood if he gets off the lead or the door gets left open for a minute? Are you that good?

Pls help my 6 month parsons female jack russell has started to ignore me .won't come back no matter what treats I use .ignores her name at home .she was doung so wrll and now she refuses to listen I'm using a lunge line and starting again but she won't come .she will always look for me and sit and wait so I'm never out of site .but she refuses to now come back to I have tried treats cuddles nothing where's as she did but now she stopped .I say daisy come but nothing I want to let her off again as have the fields so much space near us but once she sees dogs birds humans she is off pls can anyone help as its knocking my confidence I have always had rescue dogs my first pup she is a very happy confident pup

I use "yes" or "good" like you do like a clicker... I'd be useless with clicker training as I'm always losing my phone so Id be worse with a clicker lol

Sit and stay is overatted. The mind should understand and technical habitual setting gives the dog sit in their bodies. Recall is the supreme command.
