Luke Beveridge insisted leading into this round that you can't rebuild in the AFL. As we sit, a few AFL clubs are in the middle of their own so is Bevo onto something here and are rebuilds a thing of the past?

i would love to see this video at the end of the year, and see how the year plays out. and include the eagles who are in the same place as north and hawks. this video would have been made before the eagles-freo match, it would be great to see the TSE break down of all 3 and how it reflects the teams after 23 games. this is the most important question in AFL.

Some fine points a lot of footy experts forget. West coast have cut and lost enough veterans, brought in youth, now they need to build with what they have with the annual draft intake and the occasional trade

I think West Coast will be solid in few years.

I’m not sure, Brisbane bottomed out for a few years (granted they had some great pick ups) and are now a contender Essendon however have been mediocre for 20 years with no success

The problem with North is that the mature aged players at the start of the 'rebuild' weren't that good. Clubs tried multiple times to get talent to come across but they just won't. WC would struggle without yeo, mygov, darling etc. North just doesn't have that calibre of player. Mitchell culled the hawks mature agers because he didn't want them there. Too many reminants of an old dynasty. Makes a big difference if it's a new coach coming in, vs established one starring the refresh too IMO.

West Coast struggle with those players as it is. What are you talking about?

Great vid mate, completely agree also I believe we need to stop taking draft picks we have enough forwards and mids I reckon trade for a key forward to go with larkey because CCJ is horrendous and by all means throw the kitchen sink at a 25+ year old key defender

The kids are alright, but it’s the experienced players that are shocking.

another thing to remember about the last 4 draft years is the talent has been affected by covid. if we look at this years draft and if the players to be drafted at 17-18 they didn't play or barely played when they were 13-14 years old. cream rises to the top but a lot of draftees had their early development years obstructed by covid. which is why the draft is so shallow in the last few years.

I think luck has a lot to do with it with who you get in the draft. But now players can move so freely, clubs like Gold Coast and soon Tassie will just be starter clubs where players play their rookie contract before moving to bigger clubs. Should have a 5 year rookie contract be mandated

Might be onto something there.

Watching the Adelaide rebuild from the 2019 off season has shown me a few things. It's very hard to "nail" a draft. Between Academy picks (changed after Adelaide missed out on pick 1), father/son, Northern Academies, free agency and priority picks... It's a freaking nightmare. My fixes if I was AFL boss Get rid of the discount on matching bids. Nick Daicos was taken at pick 4 but that's pick 7 once you get a discount. You should pay full price. This also helps with academy picks too (see Gold Coast last draft) Northern Academies need some restrictions to Brisbane and Sydney. I know they're rugby states and the game needs stars from there playing there. But they are too consistently good to be getting help Priority picks need to be replaced with different concessions. I would grant money allowed to be used outside of the salary cap. A set amount over a period of time that can help keep a player or land one from another team. It's temporary and really only affects the club in question. Supplement this with list spots and such and you compromise the draft less Free agency also needs a Tweek but I don't know how. I'm reluctant to take the concession out because it's hurting developing sides when they lose mature talent. But it sucks watching good teams pay nothing for good players only to see your pick slide down the draft
@SilentHotdog2820 күн бұрын
Yeah I don't get how a priority pick even helps the club in question when after 2 years that player can just walk out.

@@SilentHotdog28 it's also that struggling teams need players for the now. Rather than Gold Coast getting pick 2 in 2019 and taking Noah Ainsworth (who's great for the club don't get me wrong), maybe they keep the group together or get that trade they need to fill a gap and be a leader. They now have a player who's choosing the club rather than just going there. Then the other rebuild teams of that year (North and Adelaide) don't have their extremely valuable pick slide

I do wonder if there is something wrong with the facilities or the services at North. A number of years ago before they even really bottomed out they tabled massive offers to Dusty, Gaff, Kelly, De Goey and Heeney, yet all decided to stay at their respective clubs even though they would've been earning a lot more coin if they moved to North. Then of course was the JHF saga.

We need to get off Mackenzie’s back here he’s 20yrs old and has been at the club for 1 year and some change, plus it’s not like he’s been playing horribly. Really Denver Granger needs to figure out his game. Josh ward has improved slightly but more needs to come from him but overall we haven’t nailed in terms of draft just yet.

I think the Eagles are back in business and I think Harley Reid is going to be something special, I think he is going to be the best no. 1 pick since Luke Hodge
