This is such a blast from the past! I have been doing the Ian Knot since 2005, and I still do helix lacing on my shoes :3

@@ProfShoelace i totally was an early adopter! No exaggeration, you have affected my life for over a decade and a half. At the time I taught 2 of my friends the Ian Knot and they still use it. I also remember emailing you about something or other, way back then, lol. Hope you're doing well in Australia, Mr. Fieggan!

One of the very best lacing methods. The only real problem with it is that it's not very suitable for shoes with lace holes that aren't in placed in a straight line.

It should still be functionally the same even if it isn't aesthetically the same.

@@grentreem3096 I mostly alternate between 3 or 4 lacing methods based on the shoe. Double Helix (sometimes combined with Ukranian lacing) Over Under Straight European Criss Cross

I'm curious what changing the bottom laces to a standard bar would do to the benefits of this method, because I think I'd prefer that look

If you have the bottom bar across the outside you should find this lacing just as easy to use as the prescribed method. With the bottom bar across the inside you'll find it a tiny bit more difficult to tighten the lowest diagonal.
