What Joe doesn’t realize is that this game has both types of sand worms. The ones in the trailer are the juvenile form of the giant ones in the movie. This was explained in the Dune Awakening Direct they had today.

They actually said in the direct that both types of worm designs are in. The small ones have the triangle mouths, the big ones have the ring mouth.

Hey Joe this trailer came from a whole episode called Dune Awakening: Direct Episode 1. A lot of cool details like how close they work with Legendary which is why some things are movie inspired and more about the MMO social features like siding with Atreides or Harkonnens. I recommend you check it out!

you shouldve listened to the dev stream today before they released that trailer, he gave LOTS of info on the game/world ... that worm in that trailer was one of the small worms which can not be killed in game. base building is cool cause you can save a build as a blueprint and sell it to other players via a market. The pve area he talked about with the storms that come through once a week will drastically change the terrain... the ability to drink enemies blood for water.... go watch that stream joe, there is more footage than what you see in this trailer. I signed up for the beta over a year ago. And yes joe there will be factions/guilds/ skill trees.....

In the longer video from the dev, they talked about having bigger worms in the deep desert that is closer to the move design. You will also harvest spice, and that a warm always comes, so yeah, you will have to pick up your mining equipment with a Carryall.

You should watch the whole Direct Part 1 of this. There is a lot of info there - npc contracts and cities, player contracts, solo/group/guild plays, mentors that can teach you skills like rogue Bene Gesserit etc. Worth a watch.

So idk if you like 4x games but dune spice wars is that but a strategy game. It is actually more visually like the books. You also get to play as almost every class. Made by the devs too and they recently launched the first dlc for it

15:53 I think we’ll be destroying Harkonnen spice crawlers in public event-type settings. There will probably be a countdown before the crawler either completes its job or a worm attacks. Because the worms always attack.

Not a fan of the tremor's style worm but would be keen to have the worms completely independent to follow vibrations around and attack unannounced. A risk of using shields, vehicles, normal walking is getting attacked by a worm. That would be cool. Building inside caves would be cool too.

It was confirmed in Discord by the Community Manager that the worm we see in the trailer is one of the smallest and the round mouth ones will be deeper into the desert. ;)

The work in this trailer is a small worm as per the books. They basically said that as soon as you spawn in worms will be a thing but they will be small. Once you get to the deep desert there will be the big round mouth worms. And remember The worm always comes

Homeworld 3 in Joe's top 10 most wanted of 2024 list. 10 points to the Angry Joe Show! That's some good taste. Space Marine 2, STALKER 2, and Star Wars Outlaws. Very nice. No Rest for the Wicked just jumped into my top 3.

That sandworm is just a young worm. For people claiming to love DUNE you'd think you'd know young sandworms are not physically identical to older ring mouths (which most worms never even grow to as the younger worms frequently get eaten by larger worms). They showed larger ring mouths in the developer direct and they look fucking awesome!

@Hunter_6601 Okay, first of all Frank Herbert passed away in 1986, well before any Dune RTS existed. Secondly, the first Dune RTS, Dune II predates Command & Conquer and was made by Westwood Studios, the developers of Command & Conquer themselves! Everything that Command & Conquer is, is an evolution of the gameplay that started in Dune II. Vehicles and all.

The worm you see in this trailer is only a small one. The ones out in the spice fields will be more akin to the ones in the Denis Villeneuve films.

Was any of that actual gameplay though, I really worry that this was all just a vertical slice rather than actual gameplay it looks a tad too polished to be actual gameplay for a game that doesn't even have a release date yet Especially since this will be an MMO and from Funcom which isn't particularly known for such polished looking games. So I am quite curious to see if this was a vertical slice or actual gameplay from the actual in development game

I hope the Sardukar have Black uniforms and helmets, and that the heraldry is book accurate. Atreides Red Hawk, Harkonnen Blue Griffin, Corrino Golden Lion, etc.
