Paul is the only pro teacher on the internet who constantly hammers on the only facet of the golf swing that must precede everything else. Without this one element, the rest doesn't matter. With it you have a chance to become a good golfer. I'm almost 84 and having a ball. Thank you, Mr. Wilson!

Yes, I am consistent. Been teaching the same way since 1991 and I know the results I get which are amazing. So I will just keep putting it out there and one day everyone will switch to no arms using the body as the power source. Not sure I will be around to see it but at least I can say I tried.

Well for me it's all about keeping it simple and thinking of the student and what they are hearing me say. In no way will I ever make this stuff complicated. Let everyone else do that. Simple and doable for the student. I have thought "fast and easy" for no my 34th year teaching.

Paul ALL of your videos are SUPERB. When I go to Vegas which I do quite often I am booking a lesson with you. Your tips are incredibly amazing and have penetrated my head unlike many others I watch on KZfaq, the rest are like: "3 easy steps to fix your driver": Then they go about 20 different things for 30+ mins... Forget about it... SHOULDERS AND HIPS! LETS GOOOOO!

This guy is amazing. Paul is on a mission to improve the life for all golf players . Thought that I would share my personal experiences from practicing what he teaches. Note, however, that I am a mediocre golf player; hovering above 90. I may have misunderstood his teachings, and all the errors in this post are on my part I’ve now been practicing for about 6 weeks. I saw clear improvements after 1 week. During the last couple of weeks I have hit some of the best shots of my life. When I get this right, the feeling is that I turn towards the target and that the club just follows along. I realize that I have never before managed to relaxed the club freely. So much speed is achieved by just allowing the club to release. I am now teaching my wrists a new pattern of movement. The great thing about this is that I can do it at home. I’ve had a few setbacks. This usually happens when I focus on something new, and I forgot some other basic component. But it only takes 1-2 days of practice to get me back on track. I have a history of upper back (and shoulder) pain. This is actually a result of over excessive practice at the range. Sadly though, my history of excessive practice did not do much good for my golf. Now I can play a round of golf without having pain the next day. I get in trouble when I try to put in extra effort and put extra pressure on the ball. Then I revert to old habits (trying the help the ball with my arms and upper body). It really takes focus to trust the swing and allowing the arms to be powerless. I get the best results when I am thinking about hitting with 60-70% of my max effort (and usually I still get the same distance). I love that Paul is so consistent in his teaching, but still finds new ways of conveying his message. From having the feeling that I black out during my swing I am starting to consciously notice what happens in my back swing, release and follow through. Paul is a master of explaining how the swing should feel like and what to observe. It makes the feedback loop so much easier and faster. I am not a very skilled golfer. Practicing what Paul teaches, my immediate target is to break 90. If I can do it (with my limited talent), this is proof enough for me that Paul’s method works for anyone out there.

Thanks for your kind words and support. Great description. I love how you are practicing at home. I keep telling people this but do they listen? This is the fastest, easiest way to get it (practice swings at home). Swinging at 60-80% is correct. You need to stay loose. Swing hard and you tighten your arms and wrists which is not what I teach. Pain free once you start doing it ... yes. I have helped countless people play pain free. Consistent instruction ... yes. I have taught this going on 32 years now and get amazing results. Why would I even teach anything else. Are they new players trying this new tilted swing dominating? No and they never will. Who is #1? Scheffler. He has an old school swing. I tried this new swing over 20 years ago. Hurt my back and couldn't keep it out of the parking lot to the right. Learning my method is about understanding the concept, learning the proper grip and setup so you even have a chance to do it. Then learning a few new positions that I cannot do better than you. I even give feedback so you know you are doing them 100% right (no one else does this). Learning a few new feelings like loose wrists and not hitting. All of this can be done at home. I do not need anyone to hit any golf balls to learn this. The ball is the problem. Take away the ball for a month or two and you have a swing for life. You can still play and work on your short game but hit few practice balls. You are on your way. Just stay focused and work on each lesson precisely. Do that and you will look like a pro when you swing. You know how good you hit it when you look like a pro?

You need to change how you think. If you are having trouble getting it you keep thinking about hitting the ball instead of the moves and positions. FORGET THE BALL. Work in the moves and positions. The ball will come in the future. If this takes you a week, month or year you need to get it because hitting with the arms will NEVER work. If it's not working yet and people have been playing for 10-50 years it will not magically start working one day. In order to play your best you need to do the opposite of what you are doing. You need to not hit with arms, and instead, power it with your legs and hips. In making the switch you can't expect greatness right away. Some people do switch fast while others take time. You are learning a whole new way to swing. So see it like that but now instead of you trying to figure it out I have figured it out for you. Just stay focused on how it works and what I am showing you to do. Forget the ball. Do lots of practice swings at home with no ball. No ball means you are not trying to hit anything. If you are not trying to hit you can work on the moves with no distractions. If you go to the range swing easy. Tee up your ball and work on it mostly with 7 iron. I would do this drill until mastered. I call it taming the wild stallion (you): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbyYp69eyZemaY0.html Get that then as you go for more power you add a little legs and hips. As you do you will see the ball fly farther. Then you add more as you get better at it. Build it up over time. If you feel the arms creep in slow back down. Loosen back up and stop hitting. Watch this too: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNt_fdunxJiWeJ8.html So it's not hard. It's different. If you want it you need to focus and stop thinking about the result. It will come if you keep not hitting.

Yesterday, I committed to a bucket of balls,first swinging the handle,then the head to hit each ball. I’ve got to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which each ball was struck. Every now and then I would “grab “ the club as I was about to make contact and the result was not as good as simply turning my arms off all the way through to the finish. Arms off, effortless distance and accuracy. Thank you Paul…!👍🏽

This is similar to the first golf video I ever invested in, Bob Mann’s Automatic Golf. However his leg movement was more lateral and the right hand was basically getting a free ride through the swing with mostly all the gripping pressure in the last 3 fingers of the left hand which gives you a nice hinge in the wrists. Turning the right hip now helps me immensely from hitting those ugly blocks to the right! Thanks Paul

Great stuff as usual Paul. I still refer to your Swing Machine Book that I purchased back in 2002. Constant forward tilt, rotation and unrestricted hinge. It took me a long time to switch off my hands and arms since that was how I started the club back for years. Now as soon as both shoulders begin to turn the club moves with them. The arms and hands are now linkage only. It took me a while to trust this, since hands and arms are things we use actively everyday. Best part of your instruction is that when my game goes bad I have you to blame 😉. LoL

I started taking golf seriously about a month ago. After my first trips to the range my right elbow and back was in terrible pain. I never felt pain in my elbow like that before and I've played tennis for years. My friends said "it's just your muscle fibers getting used to the swing everyone goes through that." I discovered this KZfaq channel and hit about 250 balls today, no pain at all. I also hit the ball better. I'm still working on my "belt buckle" turn, club head speed and balance but I'll get it. Thanks for all you do Paul.

Jim, it really does work. Most of my life I would swing from the belt up (meaning I mostly used my arms). And when I was young I could get away with it. But as I aged (now 75) I continued to loose distance. When I stumbled upon Paul Wilson's you tube videos everything started to become much more easy (and less back pain for me). I went to Vegas for a lesson with Paul a few years ago and continue to watch his videos and this one, to me, is the clearest, most concise explanation of Paul's swing philosophy!

Paul just started watching your videos. Already seeing improvement in my game! A quick question. When you talk about moving your head back over your right foot do you rotate the head or is this a lateral movement of the body to get weight on your right leg? Thanks for the great videos!!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 жыл бұрын
You are allowing the coil to move your head. Too much lateral is not good. Go to a mirror. Stand up vertically. Club stretched out in front of you. Do a backswing. When you do you will automatically move your head 100% of the time because you are building an axis between your head, body and right leg. You didn't even have to think of it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itOaibCF3622ook.html This is the move I want you to do on a tilt. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbGbfdClqMeadKs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9yhbJWkp7fdhWg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oJedhph82p61YWQ.html

Well if you were having trouble with or working on your hips you could start them as a drill. If you liked doing it you could start them forever by moving them just slightly first. Hi Paul great video. Few questions I would like to ask is looking at your videos I don’t see much width in your backswing. Your arms aren’t extended. My golf coach has been working on getting wide. Also I have been tilting my shoulders instead of turning which has affected my swing for a number of years. This is a problem as lots of teaching is focused on turning your shoulders down towards the ball/ ground. This had added a problem of me tilting not turning. Once I started turning I realised that as I am in a tilt at set up it’d taken care of automatically. I actually feel I’m turning level to the ground. Your thoughts on wrists angles at the top as well. Appreciate your thoughts and advice on these Thanks Leon

I try to get width and I don't get depth. I would rather have depth. Yeah, I don't go down with the shoulders. This is a young man's swing. Not sure how that is not going to kill your back. I prefer pain free and hitting long forever so I like people to stand tall. Move the head as the shoulders turn on a more level plane. Glad you got the fact that you are already tilted. If you are tilted and turn you will still be tilted. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itOaibCF3622ook.html Wrist position (hopefully he is not trying to get you to bow your wrist): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7iHfJt-zdTXkWw.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8V_Y6tjtrSqn2Q.html Looking at your profile pic you are not a young guy. So don't do that swing. I have said since I saw them teaching it that swing will never dominate the tour and guess what ... it isn't. Scheffler is dominating with a taller more upright swing. Go figure. I think he will be able to do that swing forever which means he ain't going anywhere anytime soon. I think you see it so stick with it. You'll be glad you did.

@@paulwilsongolf , I know. I have to remember all the steps. But when I do it goes a mile. I hit a 325 yrd drive today and amazed my friends and myself. I was on in 2 on 2 of the par 5’s. And the irons are giving me that beautiful whistle from a pure struck ball. I still have to get my timing right starting the downswing with the hips because I still get in a hurry and I realize it because it doesn’t feel as pure. The loose wrists are a good tip also. I have been using the single plane swing and it was working but I didn’t get the distance and it seemed like more work. Your method feels effortless and the ball just jumps off the club. That's a big drive. Now you know you can do it. Just go to remember how. Keep doing tons of practice swings holding the club at knee high off the ground. Paul, can you do some videos on course management/strategy for an 18 hole round of golf to get lower scores for those who are just starting out with the powerless arms swing? I've been hitting my driver and long irons really straight off the tee and right on target with this powerless arms system (really straight compared to my old strong grip swing!). And my second shots are also almost always ones that I'm very happy with (my 3 wood has really benefited from the "don't try to kill it; just think 50%" mindset!) which is a great feeling! But... I can't seem to be able to finish the job and land on the green on my next shot no matter what I do. It's super frustrating to be anywhere from 70 -115 yards away from the green, hit what looks like a perfect shot, only to see it land way short. Seeing this happen time after time, I've tried clubbing up only for the same thing to happen... still short. Sometimes I'll go 2-3 clubs up to compensate but then I end up 20 yards long as expected. When I try to turn faster with my SW, PW, 9 and 8 irons they're either still short (it's as if they just refuse to make it to the green like they're protesting!) or are off target and miss the green left or right. This kind of thing has added 1-2 strokes to each hole since those too short to hit the green shots usually leave me in tougher spots to chip and in a bad mindset for my putts. I two and three putt much more often than I one putt so I'm playing bogey and double bogey golf right now (even seeing teh dreaded snowmen 8s on occasion!) which just isn't my goal. I went from playing in the low 90s on average (80s on really good days) in the past to not even breaking 100 a couple of times this year. My old swing (strong grip) had all my clubs going about 10 yards apart from each other (but they weren't going as straight and far as I wanted which is why I switched to trying powerless arms; now they're straighter but shorter which was only half the goal). Right now my distances are about 20 yards shorter than with my old swing but what's even worse is that there are bigger yardage gaps between clubs. THAT seems to be my main problem: not being able to hit to certain distances. My 8 iron is currently only going 120 yards, my 9 iron 110, my PW about 80-90, and my SW (the most inconsistent distance club of all) goes anywhere from only 30 to 70 yards depending on how fast I turn and/or how bad the muddy grass conditions are here in the midwest (sometimes my SW just goes right under the ball and through the muddy grass like butter in the fairway as if it's in a bunker where it just pops up and splashes which would be great in a bunker but horrible in a fairway). This means that I don't currently have clubs that get me consistently onto the green from 75-85 yards in or from 95-115 yards in which is kind of important. I will sometimes just say forget it at those distances and do my old half swings with a 7-9 and hope they roll onto the green which isn't ideal but has a much more consistent success rate currently than my full powerless arms swing with my SW and PW. But I don't really want to do that since those are "feel" and "guess" shots. I'm just not having as much fun as I should hitting two great shots in a row each new hole because I'm then unable to land on the green on my next shot when I should be able to since I consistently hit 2 good shots in a row to start each hole so I should be able to hit 3 good shots in a row. But nope. I'm finishing holes with way too many double bogeys where I'll say, "I didn't even think I hit any bad shots on that hole except for one that went too short" which means it's almost always a missing yardage club problem versus hitting bad shots (even my chips aren't bad but some of my short pitches stop dead just on the edge of the greens when they do finally land; and I see way too many first putts also being short resulting in some 3 putts). My playing partners meantime are spraying their balls left and right and even chunking and shanking some shots but they're ending up with lower scores overall than I am because they can get on the green in fewer shots albeit from the left and right instead of from in the fairway like me. They often say, "really?!!" when I tell them what score I got on a hole because they only saw nice shots from me but then they will remember "oh, yeah you did hit that one pitch shot super short". It's just sooooo frustrating. Any advice you can give those of us who are hitting the ball well but who are lacking certain distances with our clubs (for some strange reason) and who are paying the price with higher scores would be appreciated. I'm trying super hard to keep my head up but it's not easy when I'm the one in my golf gang working on my swing like crazy while my playing partners are just wacking away chicken wing style yet shooting better scores than I am. Arrrrrggh.

I may get around to it at some point. The courses here are so busy so trying to shoot on course has to be done at quieter times but I can't seem to find any. In reading your super long description sounds like you are maybe swinging too easy. I am not swinging easy. I am not hitting with arms. My wrists are super loose which generates a whip. I then connect this arm unit to my body which I am firing hard (80%). You seem to have issues with higher lofted clubs. I think you are adding loft so you are not getting the proper yardages. Could be swinging too easy or hanging back on the back foot at contact. Also, a chicken wing adds loft. I would be doing my roll over drill roll the wrists and releasing the club early. This will take loft off the club. Once the ball is going left consistently and sounding pure you then switch to body rotation to straighten it out. Watch: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMB0Y8KbtbKcm6c.html So purposely roll early. This will start it left and possible put some draw spin on it but these are shorter clubs so they won't draw much. Get this then add body.

@@paulwilsongolf Thanks, Paul. I tried the roll over drill today and it helped a lot with my PW and 9 iron. I also watched a couple videos of my swing from the other day and realized I wasn't keeping my left arm extended enough at the top of the backswing. I was letting it bend way too much which I think probably did create a little chicken wing since it stayed a little bent and floppy during the downswing. The roll over drill and concentrating on a longer (yet not locked too tight at the elbow) left arm was the fix I seemed to be missing with those shorter clubs. Also, I finally had a chance to really practice my short 10 yards away from the green pitches with my SW in the backyard and actually sunk two of them into the hole during an actual round yesterday! The club butt to the target and then turn the belt buckle for the downswing practice routine worked like a charm! I love being in those situations now! Thanks again!

When you have the first bad shot you need to know exactly what you are doing so you can fix it. Pull/pull hook = hitting with arms then push/push fade = driving the lower body too hard coming out of it. Slice = arms from the top and tight wrists. Thin/topped shots = hitting hard Typically people will pull and slice. This is hitting. So if any of these shots show up you immediately go down to swinging at 50%. This will keep the arms out so you don't do it on the next shot. Once you see the next shot is great increase the hips if you need a little more. In other words constantly watch your ball. This will tell you everything.

Hi Paul, a quick question about this type of swing. If I'm doing this properly, should I be feeling the weight of the clubhead pulling me thru after impact? I'm asking because I haven't hit any balls with this yet. Only swinging in my house. For me, this seems like a grip pressure issue. When I really soften my pressure at the top of the swing & just let my body bring the club down like you say, it feels totally different. The weight of the clubhead pulls me through the shot. I hope I can do this with a ball in front of me. It's easy when there's no ball there. Thanks.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Well you would feel the weight pulling your arms out fully. Like a weight on a string. Don't be too loose with the grip. It's loose wrists ... not lose grip. Just think how would a weight on a string work. What would that feel like? You arms are string, the club is the weight. The club should feel heavy.

Well, it's not easy because you have to go against human nature. It is telling you to hit the ball and hit it hard. It's telling you to be comfortable (this is new and different). So, you need to convince yourself to try it. Not for 3 balls and quit. At least 1 bucket so you see some great shots and know that it will work if you keep doing it. Most people always want to hit their best shot. So I try to get them to do a new move and they hammer it as hard as they can. It's about the movement not the ball. Get the movement ... you get the ball. This is the best drill everyone should be doing: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iq6dabac2azNlp8.html Also, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNt_fdunxJiWeJ8.html

No. That would be you hitting and manipulating it with your hands and arms. Just follow my last few tips and get it hooking. Once you can do that we at least know where the ball is going before you hit it. It also means the release is working. At that point you start adding body to straighten it out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJOeerBn3rSbaWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ppqmdLaetODPgJs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g55ma7SkudKrpGg.html

As u r turning hips in downswing, u r carrying the arms too i can see in slow motion. Arms can never lack behind hips they will be stuck like Tiger woods used to have this problem earlier. Arms has to catch up with hips. It is a sequence where on front foot u transfer the weight first then arms drops and hips rotates last.
@paulwilsongolf

For sure if you fire to hard you will blow it right. It's called timing. You have timing between the release and timing of the body. If you only speed one up the other will be late. So you roll it over and hook 10 shots in row. This speed up the release then you fire the legs quicker. I talk about it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKjnqqqnNjZnKM.html

Just take it in steps. Arms hinge and re-hinge. A hinge is loose. So you work it back and forth hinging and rehinging rolling it over and getting rid of any slice spin on your shots. This will get you feeling arms as you swing. Then you start to add body. So you feel body and arms. Then finally turn the arms off. Do this and you made the switch.

Everyone just can't get this no matter how hard they try just as with other parts of the swing. The part that he didn't go into detail about as he does in other videos is the looseness of the wrists required for speed. The golf swing is about proper timing of moving parts in a specific sequence. I certainly don't claim to have more knowledge than Paul does but there's more to it than merely turning your body with your arms attached. Some people interpret this as the arms moving exactly the same speed as the body which would produce absolutely no power which brings us back to the proper timing of a sequence of body movements at different times during the swing. Something as simple as too much grip pressure can make it impossible to make this type of swing but he covers that in other videos so don't just take this video to the range & expect it to work without seeing his other videos. It looks simple but is much more involved than what you see here. Paul's method is great if you can get it but what you feel can't be taught like swing mechanics because as is said all the time, feel isn't real. Most people aren't doing what they think they are which is why you need video of yourself or another set of eyes watching you.
