Warning graphic content. Students from Piccadilly Central High School all had wavers signed to partake in the making of this video. As part of the Elders and Youth Cultural Program students were shown how to make and load snares, build portable pens, search for animal sign and set the snares. They also learn how to skin, clean and cook the rabbits. Then they helped edit the video which you are about to see.

Great Video.. they students seem to love it..I was impressed with the young lady holding the rabbit so long.. I think you enjoyed it as much as they did Charlie :)

First, I think it's great that you spent the time with them, sharing your knowledge, and giving them a chance to try it for themselves. Second, I really have to hand it to that school... I know you've spent time in Ontario, and you know what I'm talking about when I say there's a lot of schools where parents would lose their minds if you tried to introduce that to the classroom. Finally, I'm impressed with the students whoe clearly threw themselves into it where even the girls (I'm looking at you, Hollywood) didn't shrink away from any part of it. Faith restored.

They all were so amazing to work with both staff and students. I can't speak for everyone but I believe everyone who was involved with this program all enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again next year.

That's an awesome program for the youth , and great work Charlie. I wish this was a part of a school program when I was in school. I received my woods training from my grandfather and father, and spent many a day in the woods as a kid, which I am very thankful for.

Glad you enjoyed it Garry, yes I think the youth enjoyed it very much. But so did everyone else involved... Like you and most of us older folks, this was a hands on passed down knowledge from fathers and grandfathers. Today many folks lead lifestyles so busy they don't take time to get out and pass on those skills. Many still do, but many don't. I guess it makes programs like this even more important for the youth to reconnect to the land.

@@NLGhostWolf I agree 100% and I fell a bit in that busy trap with my two boys we went out some but not like I feel we should have. The were too busy going all over the province with hockey and music and wrestling and on the list went .... life so much different than we were boys ha ha

Great video Charlie. I did a similar project for the Duke of Edinburgh program a couple years ago. They finally project focused on wildlife survival, and rabbits snaring and processing the rabbit were part of the seminar that I did with them. Lots of squirming but they stuck with it. Great stuff.

I was too, time and weather was against here on this one. Also we set the snares in a place that had been snared over by others, so we were lucky to catch any.
