1999 - I was working outside that day in that parking lot. I was a worker for MuchMusic in Toronto for Electric Circus dance club on Queen St., I am standing way to the right off cam smoking a joint watching him do the interview, after the interview all I heard was "fuck man that smells good" and he pointed at me and all I did was point back. it maybe dumb but to get that acknowledgement back in 1999 was insane and will stay with me forever.

I started listening to him in 2000. And it's been THE SAME f*cking thing for almost 25 years: People who have absolutely no sense of humor take EVERYTHING at face value. Sarcasm, irony, creativity, metaphors, all go over their heads. What people judged him for is the same content that developed my sense of humor when I was a child. He is witty, funny and sarcastic. And critics and alike have always been too self-important and serious to get what Em was actually doing.

Nobody can discredit what this man has done for hiphop culture. Hiphop is a worldwide culture, and been so since 90s. Black americans are a VERY SMALL minority in hiphop as a whole worldwide. They do realize hiphop really is a worldwide culture? There are MCs, DJs, Breakdancers and painters in EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY. This does NOT mean it discredits them, or their culture IN ANY WAY. They should be happy this culture we all now love, has grown to something like this. It conects people from all over the world. Some kid from South-Africa, Thailand, or even Finland is sitting in his little room room, in his miserable life... Listening to hiphop. Helping them get through life. These racist little opinions people have, have absolutely nothing to do with hiphop.. But everything to do with their own little small-minded world views.

Well sir no one's trying to discredit Eminem, however I know while racism is a heavy topic it's worth noting that we are bitter from all of the systemic racism that black people people have experienced. and our culture has a history of being dissed, used & under credited ourselves there's a lot of things that black people have created in this country that we don't really get the respect on or even the payment from it which is why we want reparations see we don't only ask for reparations because of slavery do it for these situations too. But I understand what you're coming from because I like eminem too

@herrzimm
@herrzimm 8 ай бұрын
You know, I'm old enough to remember when Em's skin color wasn't a real big deal.... not when it came to the number of people who would be outside and picket his shows simply over his lyrics and topics. Don't get me wrong, people did hate him being successful as a white rapper.... but they also hated him for what he was saying and what he was talking about, not to mention the cussing, FAR MORE than his skin color. It really wasn't until he proved he had STAYING POWER, and HUGELY SUCCESSFUL (3rd album) that the hatred over lyrics and topics died down and the focus became pretty much NOTHING BUT HIS SKIN COLOR. At which point, it was far too late. He had the fanbase and track-record (as well as record tracks) to withstand that line of attack. As proven by the DECADES of putting out tracks that a lot of his haters still can't even MATCH, let alone top in order to prove that they "can do better" than he can.

People in the crowd were being so stupid and disrespectful but my friends and I were LOVING it. He was very low budget and only had a folding card table for the DJ and some plastic mushrooms for decorations. Then the next summer of 2000 we saw him at the Up in Smoke tour with Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, D12, Warren G, Nate Dog and others. The difference between shows was insane!

I'd love to see you start covering Eyedea's work. Eyedea & Abilities. Eyedea is one of THE dopest and *imo* SHOULD be mentioned in conversations regarding: Battling, Freestyling, Writing, Creativity, Technicality, Poetry, Storytelling, etc.. He had it all. Eyedea could sit at a table with Jay-Z, Eminem, and Big L and hold his own without breaking a sweat. Perhaps even excel. He was was different. And HIGHLY underappreciated/unknown. May he rest in peace! As for Abilities? He's one of the slickest vinyl scratchers/producers Hip-Hop has had the pleasure of hearing. His cuts, samples, scratching and mixing *abilities* are top notch, one of the best, bar none. All analog back in the day, and when they performed live it sounded JUST like the records. He's incredible. Had the pleasure of seeing him DJ a solo set, then DJ for The Pharcyde last year. I got to give him daps and he acknowledged me a few times during the show. Love him. EYEDEA & ABILITIES. Please, Stevie! Watch Eyedea's battles, watch his freestyles. Listen to their music! Try "Kept" , "One Twenty" , "E&A Day" , "Big Shots" for some straight Hip-Hop. His music gets so deep, but those are just some bops I think you might like the vibe of. I'm spazzin' on my keyboard rn though. I gotta stop makin' reccs or I'll never stop. If it weren't for Eminem getting me obsessed with Hip-Hop, I wouldn't have discovered all of my other favorites artists in the genre. Em is GOATED for eternity. Love your content, Stevie. Been subbed for years, keep talkin' your $#!T!

I think you’re making it something different than what it is. Jada never reached all these countries and white people out the United States like Em has, no rapper has. That’s okay, just like Elvis helped rock reach the whites way more than it was before him.

Talent comes from the heart and soul, not the complexion of the skin! Get so annoyed seeing hateful and ignorant comments simply because of Eminem's skin tone. Get over it!

They battle rapped on the street but not in professional rap tournaments like Eminem.

@@iraford5788 yeah, but that was a different period. When Em was going at battles in 96 Hov was already popping and DMX was working whit ruff riders. Plus Eminem was going to the tournaments for money to support him and his family, DMX was robbing ppl whit his dogs for that and hov was slanging dope lol, 3 totally different bringings but all 3 of them were known for battles

@@iraford5788 Battling on the street was harder. if someone asked for you to Battle somebody, especially from another neighbourhood, they were usually asking you to represent your entire neighbourhood. If you made a fool of yourself, you could lose somebody's money in a bet, you could get in a fight with the other rapper if you was winning, you could get beat up by your own friends if you lose. and there were no time limits, you both rap till one of you runs out of raps.

Guilty Conscience is one of the most Legendary, Artistic songs out there. At that time and even now people would look at it and kind of Ick, specially the last scene LOL. but i still bump that song and go bar for bar. it's just a song, it's art. Ehh BIG UPS TORONTO!! That Interview is Much Music in Canada. We F with Em in Canada heavy. Listen Eminem is a White man, who never tried to claim to be black or be an ally. He grew up around brothers, and did not fall in love with the culture, He grew up in it. He is in the culture as much as any other brother. The colour is not what makes you apart of the culture. it's growing up in it, the struggle and truly growing with your brothers. Eminem is the true definition of an Ally. He can show Both Empathy and Sympathy to the Culture and the people in it. On a Lyrical level, just go back to Em's high pitch voice era songs. His bars and flow was immaculate. When you get a random drive to play a song by someone because you love the fact that you can go bar for bar with the song, and break down thoughtful bars, while appreciating the flow it's being delivered in, That artist is AMAZING Period. i use to go BAR FOR BAR with Superman, not even knowing what it was about as a kid. Now as an adult i go BAR FOR BAR with the song, feeling every last verse and word said. That is a masterpiece if i have ever seen one. Drake even sampled it.
