After converting my old Marin a few weeks back , I eventually got out for a good blast in Kershope Forest and it really helped with some of those steep sections . I covered around 15 miles with about 2000 feet of ascent and I still had 2 bars showing on the computer but the heat was taking its toll .
The bike is really heavy with the 1000w motor and the 48v battery , I would like to compare with a modern lightweight EMTB for handling as mine was a bit rough into the corners and not the easiest to handle on rough terrain.

I was gifted the exact bike a Marin Hawk Hill 7005 Edge. I have a Lectric xp 2 step through with a 500 watt motor pretty heavy but it folds. Im big (6'3' ~260 like 18 stones in your fancy metric measurements) so it struggles up steep hills. Was thinking about a new kit. What is your opinion on wattage? Seems like if I use a 3K kit I need a shopping cart size battery. So how does 1500 work out? Id' like to keep up with some friends that are hard core into long distance trips (he did ride from Oregon pacific coast to Yorktown VA last summer and really geeks out on bike talk). I know he's got at least 15K invested in his bike and does the whole heart rate thing. I've got a couple of new joints from the ortho surgeon (thanks American Football) and I'd like to get back into fighting shape.
