I love these two, they are just so down to Earth in terms of explaining the important aspects of these conversions. If I lived in OZ and wanted to upgrade my 650, these are the only people I would trust with the job. I hope they move on to brake and suspension upgrades soon, I am sure they will. They seem like a lovely laid back couple who are just living their dream doing what makes them happy.

Great video. Thanks for the excellent info. I am a Triumph old timer that had a '62 Tiger 650 with 800 jugs. It was my Sportster killer. After building the engine I wound up having to install a disc brake system. That old Triumph was a really great bike and I truly miss her.

To me, mechanical is magical. I built automotive engines for 20 years. So this is what I’ve been looking for! The other problem I have is I need to lower the bike so I can get my leg over it. I need about two inches, and maybe even a different seat to help that situation. Also, as a viewer and potential customer your companies biggest stake holder is me, and as what amounts to being your boss, I’ll give you that weekend off for research purposes. You may also right off your trips expenses as long as you provide us with videos of your trip!

@@RevelryCycles Well, another question from the "antipodes".... (ding), if you allow me. The original liners look like pretty thick ones ( about 6/7 mm, doing the math, considering they have just a little more outer diameter than the 865 piston, as you showed it ). It seems that, with the 865 kit you´ll have to also drill the carters, and perhaps adapt the cam chain bottom gear shaft (In proper english might be better understandable I guess...). Do the 750 kit fit in the carter as it is? That would explain the two sizes...

There is a lot of work in those jugs, we get our Bonneville (865-790) kit jugs ready made 904/995/1200 cc to suit. But you are correct that takes skill to overbore and press in, if it is not done correctly that sleeve will try to ride with the piston at some point. The cam really is the magic, get that grind right and you are putting together a rocket. Love the RE.

Thanks for this video. Really puts into perspective how big of a job it really is, definitely not for your average home garage wrencher rookie. Considering the cost and work, (not to mention inherent risk in fundamentally altering the engine) just doesn't seem worth it for me. Really enjoyed this. You’re basically doing what I said these things needed right out of the crate. But I got so much flack from the guy who tested one of the first ones in Australia (and his little harem of crybabies), that I suspected the twins were only going to appeal to tiny Swedish Elf puppet worshipers. I’m truly delighted to see some serious folk doing the necessary work on them. And I don’t own one yet. Got too many Hondas, a CCM/BMW and a brace of Bultacos to fix. How about carb conversions? I know the old Concentrics will challenge too many modern riders, but you’ve got some guys offering flat slide Mikuni carbs down your way... Imagine the possibilities!!

Damien McArthur When I did Biology at 11 years old, I was taught that life on Earth depends upon water, plus sunlight and carbon dioxide to enable photosynthesis - the reason plants grow. The criminalisation of Carbon is a crime against humanity. Instead of the genocide proposed by the psychopathic eugenicists giving global governments their orders, maybe humanity would benefit from a top-down suicide pact. I’m in the UK. Things are not much better here. But looking at the way most people are acquiescing to the lockdown tyranny, and the disgusting ways the police are responding in Victoria, I’m glad I’m not in Australia. The irony of a ‘former’ prison colony locking down an entire state based upon false evidence is not lost on me. I have a cousin there. She’s stopped talking to me! When I build my RE 650 based special it will have no stupid computers, flat slide Mikunis and no cats. Peace

The Royal Enfield Continental GT and Interceptor were originally conceived as 750cc twins, but R.E. realised a 750 twin would be too powerful for their home market riders to cope with as a jump up from their 500cc single, so they lowered the capacity of the twin motor to 650cc. I personally think the 650cc is ideal for the Indian market, but 750cc would have been better for their international markets.

Thanks, informative video. Question: How are the engine's dynamic balance and vibration levels affected by installing the 850 kit?
@jamesfairmind2247
@jamesfairmind2247 Жыл бұрын
The 865 kit is fine but I wish they made a 750 kit which would match the original 750 Interceptor because in my opinion RE biggest mistake was not to do exactly that. The whole point of the original Interceptor was that it was the first 750 British twin made in 1962, so why build a 650 version now carrying that famous Interceptor model name? A contemporary 750 in the same tune would have produced around 54 BHP and more than enough extra torque without compromising smoothness or fuel economy. Opportunity missed in my view.

As I understand licencing restrictions the 650 provides access to learner riders that the 750 would not. I suspect India may also have power limits: you just don't see many big bikes on other vlogs from India. Personally I doubt whether the quality of the original RE would have made an 860 a ridable bike. However it would make sense for the New RE make an 860 alongside the 650 to provide a path for people who have moved past licencing restrictions to access a great twin cylinder bike.
@jamesfairmind2247
@jamesfairmind2247 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelreid2329 You are probably right but it is a shame that a 750 option was not offered from the factory. I am not a fan of the 860 concept myself. 750 would have been the perfect balance and more historically appropriate if RE are going to use the Interceptor name.

Where would you suggest we do such a run? Our drag strip is a 1/4 mile, so while we go fast we could go faster with more road. The road tracks are curved and not suitable for a top speed run. The street speed limit is 110 kph. So short of a land speed attempt or risking getting arrested there's no possible way to find top speed.

@@RevelryCycles I fhinlt Pacific Highway could be the option, the stretch starting from Lake Innes is a 10-12 mile straight one with just some minor bends, and its rural 😉

Hey you were talking about getting the pistons/rings in the cylinder being a bitch. For decades did the opposite from normal that works very efficiently. Simply put the inside wrist pin retainer on then drop the piston in from the top then when the piston starts to come out align the rod slip in the wrist pin in, problem solved.

I'm interested in seeing if there are any performance upgrades for the brakes on the 650 Twins? I already installed the performance air filter and thinking about buying your exhausts, but I don't want to add more power than the brakes can handle safely. Great content!

Very good question indeed. The stock Brembo brakes seem to be ok for 650 cc. More than 200 cc extra is a different matter.
