This is the type of invaluable advice that can change a person’s life. There are so many things that we do in life that we don’t like , but it has to be done. If we only did things because we liked them, the world would be a mess. Everything we like, is not always good for us.
@hereforit23472 ай бұрын
Like is a foundation and is NECESSARY to begin a relationship and even a friendship. But foundation is all it is. There needs to be a lot more for a relationship to be sustainable or even reasonable. However, being in a relationship with someone you DON’T like or vibe with is just as bad if not worse.

It’s like you see the most attractive person in the world…but what if they’re really a nightmare? Don’t date because YOU see or you want to believe in potential, because you can’t change others. Only God can. Instead, know God and know yourself enough to know what you need and don’t need for your relationships, platonic or not ‼️🙏🏾

I watch this lady named Susan Venker and she covered a topic like this too. We're taught that we need to get into a relationship with someone to know if it's going to work out but most of the time that leaves people with emotional scars and trust issues that lead to even more problems in future relationships. If you "like" someone, just take time to get to know them before jumping into a relationship with them. When I got out of high school and started dating more often, I had guys that would ask me to be their girlfriend after 3 dates.....3 dates! How is that enough time to know someone well enough that you want to be committed to them? Not to mention, when you enter a relationship it can only end two ways. You either get married/stay together or you break up. Why would you want to enter a commitment like that when you don't know someone that well? You're setting yourself up for failure and to build up trust issues.
@kimb.19502 ай бұрын
Thank you for this comment 🙏🏾 I totally agree with you. You're setting yourself up for a disaster if you enter a situation that you haven't learned about it is so true. You have to be careful of who you fill your voided space with in life.

The overall message is fantastic and I ride with it. But I do think he's oversimplifying the concept of "like". Functionality (what i think he's emphasizing here) is definitely integral to a long lasting and healthy relationship and should be seriously considered in relationships, but relationships aren't just about functionality, otherwise they could just be entered and operated on like a business, there would be formula for it to be successful but we all know no 2 relationships are exactly alike. "Like" is very vague in this context, is it physical attraction, attraction to personality or desire? If it's any combination of those 3 I believe it's also crucial to a healthy and long lasting relationship. Doesn't meant there aren't moments where you dont "like" each other temporarily as he said, but it is still crucial. Case and point, relationships where people mutually break-up or divorce despite having a functional relationship but they feel wholly unsatisfied. If "liking" each other wasn't important they should have stayed together as the relationship itself is working.
