@@HannahMattox Another similarity I noticed between the two cases. Both of these sets of parents provided everything for their children, gave them a lot of freedom, etc. Most of many parents ask questions about school, classes they are taking, about people at your work etc. There's no way my kids could get away with lying to me about not attending college when I believe they're or not having this job they said they have. I ask too many questions and we talk a lot. I think I would notice pretty quickly. Plus if I'm paying for your education you can damn sure I'm asking questions on your progress, making sure you're giving it your all, etc. In both cases it seems like the boys were given whatever they wanted. And clearly given too much open trust. Don't get me wrong. I completely trust my kids. But I'm very invested in my kids and their lives. Sorry can't explain very well exactly what I mean.

@@shannonfergusson978 oh no, you made perfect sense, honey! Spoiled brats who got caught not holding up to the minimum expected of them...chores, job, school. Those things are critical when you're a grown man living with your parents who already did their job of raising your ass! I've sat my kids down and told them all of what you said, plus that if they ever think they'll get away with murdering me for something like this (they occasionally watch the news), I'm pretty hard to kill and they better come with something bigger than a gun. You can't take the life of your parents when they're what keeps you alive. Selfish buttholes is what those boys are and they're gonna rot in prison. Many inmates won't like what they did to their parents, but especially their Mama's, and you can bet they'll need special protections in prison.

@@HannahMattox lol. Absolutely. My kids were convinced for most of their lives that I actually had eyes in the back of my head and super sonic hearing.. Those boys are a perfect example of why kids need to have chores, expectations set out by their parents, taught the value of money. It's great if you have lots of money or try to always give your kids what they want/need. But they have to know that things and programs cost money. Money comes from parents working hard and so you need to appreciate what you get, put your all into the program or sport you asked to join, and that a family works as a unit to keep the house and life running smoothly. Everyone has a part to play.

@@nicoleloves9483 He totally did it alone. He had his parents' big house all to himself to 'deal with' their bodies (he repeatedly told his girlfriend not to come over/limited her time there, so he could finish what he euphemistically called 'his chores'). But like so many killers, he was over confident. Detectives and the forensic crime labs they use can pick up the tiniest speck of blood proving he location of the murder scene and the killer's connection to it. Who else could have killed and dismembered them in their own home but the son who lived with them? It's frankly ludicrous this 24 year old man is denying it. But he has nothing to lose, and no doubt enjoys all the attention he's getting at his double murder trial. He's secretly proud of what he did to his parents. There's no remorse or emotion from him when photos are shown in court of his parents' body parts. He shot them in the back then chopped them up - because they were about to uncover his many lies about himself and his life. He's not a man, but a man-child. He didn't want to grow up, leave home, earn his own money or be a man, as his elder brother had. He's an evil, entitled, cowardly freak, and the sooner he's locked up with bigger psychopaths, the better! Chandler Halderson killed the two people in the world who loved him deeply, and would have supported him no matter what. Who gives a damn about him now they're gone, and he killed them both so cruelly? He has a very lonely life ahead of him.

@@mariesmith4309 Correct - Chandler shot his dad in the back just as they were about to leave the house to attend that meeting at his college, where his lies would have been fully exposed. Then he waited home for his mom to return from work and no doubt lured her down to the basement too, to muffle the gunshot sound as he killed her. These murders of parents by lazy, entitled twenty-something sons still leeching off them follow a similar pattern. The crime is invariably committed after the father has belatedly put his foot down, and taken action to end their free ride. Joel Guy Jr and Grant Amato were very similar murders by man-child sons. I doubt this is the last such crime we've seen. Parents need to take note - over-indulge your kid and keep them dependant on you, and you are doing them - and yourself - no favours at all. It's natural for parents to love their kids unconditionally. But as they become adults, and face life in the adult world, they need to detach from them for their own good. Because in the adult world, no one owes them a free ride and they will have to stand on their own two feet and make their own way in life to survive. Parents should give them the tools to do that - a secure home and a good education - but then they must let go and expect them to fly the nest and take responsibility for themselves. Why was Chandler still living with parents age 23? That's a big red flag, right there.

I kinda doubt she would've, her relationship with her parents is a whole other ball of wax. Casey is a pathogical liar, she doesn't have the nerve to ever admit wrongdoing or risk whatever she considers bad for her reputation. She killed Caylee for the freedom without giving her parents the satisfaction of taking the child from her, admitting to them and the world she was a bad mom. It's all about Casey and her ego, all day and all night. She chose the party that was easiest to kill, an indefensible baby is the path of least resistance. She's spineless.

I disagree. I think she was drugging Kaylee and even put tape on her mouth so when she would wake up she couldn’t scream…These caused the child to either accidentally OD, or suffocate due to lack of air with mouth taped shut. She didn’t want her parents to watch the child and show how irresponsible she was and it kept her kid in danger. I don’t think she intentionally killed her daughter nor wanted to kill her parents as her lies were only exposed during the investigation, NOT because her parents were closing in.

idc what they say… something was wrong in this house…… was it the parents fault? No. But someone who does something like this… they weren’t paying attention. Add to that they were cornering him in the end and obviously causing a fight or flight response…. Then the shut downs and pandemic… this was a perfect storm for a disaster. Nope, it's a perfectly intelligent and valid point. The world is way overpopulated. People should think hard before procreating. Bart and Krista seemed to have a good marriage. Fact is they'd have had a long and happy life together if they hadn't become parents. Unfortunately society encourages everyone to think marriage and kids are the norm, and if you don't fall in line and comply with that lifestyle, you're a failure. That's very wrong. NOT having kids should be recognised as a perfectly acceptable and positive lifestyle too! In fact people should be applauded for choosing not to have children. If there were fewer kids, the ones that are born would be more highly valued and treated better. There would be less child poverty and maybe better parenting!

@@SkybabyandStar Nothing 'selfish' about choosing to be child-free. What's selfish is having children and not raising them right. Not raising them right does not only mean abusing or neglecting them. It also means over-indulging them, and not setting down clear boundaries for good, respectful behaviour which will make them decent citizens. Sadly some middle-class parents are wilfully deluded about a disturbed child, and don't want to admit there's a problem with them and get them the professional psychiatric help they need. I bet there were many red flags in Chandler's behaviour as he was growing up. But the parents didn't want to think there was anything wrong with their son, and thought they could 'fix' him with love and support. Wrong! If you fail to set boundaries for your child, sooner or later society will. Chandler will spend the rest of his wasted life in jail - costing the taxpayer a fortune, as did his farcical trial. Bart and Krista are tragic victims. But they also failed as parents and played a key role in putting a dangerously dysfunctional man into society. Their part in this horrific crime cannot be ignored!

My parents were great and always told me I had a home with them no matter what. That gave me the confidence to go my own way and move many miles away to London aged 18. I had dreams I wanted to follow, and not coming from money, knew I had to earn that money myself to make those dreams happen. So I guess I had very supportive parents like Chandler. But I had ambitions and would no more have been living with them, jobless, playing video games all day aged 23 than I'd have murdered anyone!

@Glamdolly30 Also, among my crowd, you were expected to have a job, and once you graduate from high school, if you live at home, you paid rent. It just wasn't cool to be living with your parents unless you paid rent. But then we didn't have video games either. And they can be addictive. My sister and her husband only let their sons use the family computer for homework. Other than that, they were out swimming in their pool, playing baseball, or going fishing with dad or walking the dogs.

I agree; set the boundaries: if you’re an adult living in parents home, you respect & abide by their rules-if the rules don’t suit you, you are legally allowed to move out & start your own home. At some point you must start adulting. Parents need to let their adult ‘kids’ fly the nest. Stand by to assist throughout but the only way to grow up is to allow their “kids” to adult.
