A trick to drain vertical filters before removing them is to puncture the tops to release the inner vacuum of the canisters and thus facilitating the draining with less of a mess!

I had a oil filter EXPLODE on my old beater Fiat Croma. This car was old and ugly but an absolute gem. I had bought it for a whopping 200$ with less than 50 000miles, drove it for 6 years with nearly zero repair and honestly about zero maintenance. It consumed a bit of oil, so I always added new one instead of changing it. I called that "a slow oil change". After coming back from abroad I started the car after months. I was the coldest day for years. Then it happened. The filter blew up. I bet there as quite some frozen water in the oil and filter. I cleaned the mess, put a new filter in and drove the car for another 2 years. It ran well until the inspection guy thought it should not be on the road anymore. But it ran great til the very end. RIP Croma. I LOVE those old GT cars of the Fifties and Sixties. They had CLASS! I even like them a bit longer like this one or a Lamborghini Espada for instance.

I can tell you an Espada is a lot harder to fix than that 365! Thanks for watching.

@@tomyangnet A friend used to own an Epada for many years. He was a simple painter and got it from his uncle, who used to have the same job. He had it fixed before they got appreciated. He could only maintain it as he had a talented old school Italian mechanic as a friend. After many years a rich guy with a collection made him an offer he could not refuse. He earned enough that he could by a good early Seventies Alfa Romeo and after that he had a considerable amount of money left. Asking if he did not miss the Lambo he said not at all. He said that he has to be less careful with the Alfa Romeo.

Hey Tom, Here’s a tip: Try Pampers or Depends to wrap around those filters as you remove them. Seriously!

But can I feel comfortable with myself buying them at the store?! Thanks for watching!

I like the orange of the Baldwin. And I can source them from Walmart! Fram is definitely a no go.

Baldwins are more red. Thanks for watching!

I can't count the number of Ferrari's I have seen with the wrong oil filters installed. It is important the correct filter is used. Tommy named the three correct filters in this video.

Baldwin first, UFI second for me! Thanks for watching.

It would be interesting to see how you prepare an invoice. How you itemize it all while making it a proper archive for the history of the car.

i love Queen Marys. This car looks really nice. the leather might need some hyde food.
@tomyangnet4 ай бұрын
I usually moisturize the leather when the car comes to my shop so it has a chance to soak in, but when it's a brief visit, I don't want to leave the seats sticky! Thanks for watching.

Baldwin are the best filters made. They're industrial grade.
@tomyangnet4 ай бұрын
They certainly feel more hefty!
@sayrerowan7344 ай бұрын
Baldwin are literally what is used by industry. Take the tow boats pushing barges up and down the Mississippi. Every engine on the boat will exclusively have Baldwin filters. They're the industry standard, and have been for decades. @@tomyangnet

Wondering what your opinion is of the Evens waterless coolant?
@tomyangnet4 ай бұрын
Some of my colleagues swear by it, but I feel a properly operating cooling system does not need the higher boiling point that Evans offers, and if you're masking a problem with running your coolant hotter than normal, you could have hot spots and not know it. The other problem is it's not compatible with other coolants or water in the long term, so if you have a leak and don't have a bottle of Evans in the trunk, you're going to have to restore the Evans mix after the roadside fill up. Since I'm replacing the coolant every two years, we're not loosing the corrosion inhibitors in regular coolant, and it's readily available from any auto parts store, I'll stick with what works. On a side note, No-Rosion is another product, but it has no freeze characteristics which is a definite problem, even if you live in a warm climate. Eventually these Ferraris will ship somewhere in a transporter, and I've heard stories of a cars being shipped across the country from LA with the truck stopping in the Rockies overnight where the water froze in the back of the truck, only to have it arrive in Florida with a cracked block. This just my opinion and experience. Plenty of other people use these products without problems. Thanks for watching.

Fram are the most garbage filters. I wouldn't use them on a Kia.
@tomyangnet4 ай бұрын
I've seen Frams burst at the base of the filter where the case is crimped to the base plate. After cleaning up that mess once, I would never use a Fram again! Thanks for watching.
