In my work over the past 5 years, I’ve seen a disturbing trend in men of sedation, mediocrity, and lifelessness. It seems to me too many men have lost their appetite for adventure, excitement, and a life full of meaning and purpose.
If you feel like that describes you (even to some degree), or you know someone it does, this is going to be a powerful podcast. My guest today is Traver Boehm and he joins me to talk about his new book, Man Uncivilized. We cover what it means to be a man, how and why we should become more “uncivilized,” overcoming playing the perpetual “nice guy,” and showing up fully in our lives and the lives of others.

It’s a uniquely masculine struggle to find our identity. It’s not given to us with pregnancy. Sometimes we have to rediscover ourselves multiple times in life. I really like the rule of three hobbies (I think from Jordan Peterson) that allow you to be creative, to make money, and stay in shape.

Can't wait to inform my wife she didn't have an identity until she got pregnant.

Wonderful discussion. Very interesting and polite even, but also truthful and honest. My husband left this written down on a table and I thought I would check it out. Glad I did. More true men are needed in this world. Keeps it up guys.

Man, this podcast hit so many aspects of my life. Thank you so much for having this discussion, the way you guys meted out your ideas was so thorough, polite, and to the point, and exactly what I've been looking for for so many years. Here's to being un-civil-ized!

Thank you for putting this amazing content out in the digital world for all of us to watch! I came across your channel by chance and as soon as I clicked play, I was sucked in. Then to hear you say that you just moved and are now a fellow Mainer makes it that much better!! We welcome you with open arms to Maine and I hope you haven’t second guessed your decision to come here at all. Now you understand what real cold weather is, (although so far this winter it hasn’t really been too bad) and understand the hilarity when cities south of us close down because they got 4-6 inches of snow while here we are with our 14 inches of snow, picking up the kids from school and waiting for the other 8 inches to come down from the heavens so we can clean out our driveways once again.

GREAT DISCUSSION! Unfortunately, the way to show "strength" today is through money. Mediocrity and compliance too often are rewarded with money, which in our societies is power. Therefore, men today go for this kind of smartness and power, while having lost real, healthy strength and kindness.

Wow, that's brutally concise and true. The four 'f's, awesome. And under the 'feeling' part we have everything from Godly love and compassion, to Godly anger and wrath. "Vengeance is mine" sayeth our Father, though we still got to call out evil and set the record straight on his behalf sometimes
