I'm still hoping Denis Villeneuve ultimately changes his mind and adapts the other Dune books after Messiah. His Leto II would likely be the stuff of nightmares.

@@WalkBesideMeunless dune gets an entire generation of fans who didn't read the books (possible, unlikely) I don't think these sequel films will be super successful beyond people who are already dune fans. Too weird. Plus, movies will have to skip cool shit.

@@jaquandrejonesidk we gonna have to agree to disagree, he's already proved he can adapt the dune ideas and aspects very competently and to where most can understand it. And a lot of people talk about and like the dune books in the new generations and these movies are going to help a lot. If he made more they'd be just as popular.

@@promane557 the first dune book has both the least weird shit, and is possibly the most popular Sci fi book ever. Doing dune justice is NOT the same thing as having hundreds of millions of people look at a worm called Leto 2 and get it.

I was at that Conference, the beginning is perfect. Denis even said that it's a whole different movie, the first one was more about the first contact with the series and his vision, more about the wonders of Dune and it's beauty. Now, he said, it's total action and total war. And the scene of his first ride on Shai-Hulud, I got goosebumps during the whole moment.

So the scene with riding the sandworm is at the start of the movie ?

@@lXlElevatorlXl No, they first showed the beggining of the movie, 10 minutos duration. Then Denis appeared again at the stage, said few more things about the movie and told us we would have a last surprise. Shai-Hulud scene was something around 5 minutes and if I remember well, Denis said that this scene is at the begining of the second act.

My hope for the second movie: One of the reasons Herbert wrote Dune was due to the distrust he had of charismatic leaders and how the people are fickle, manipulable and surrender their freedom (with the respective critical sense and necessary distrust to the government) to follow the various scoundrels that infest the global history. The sight of JFK and the charisma he exuded - just remember the romanticism of his government and person that emerged after his assassination. The best passage of the 6 books is in the dialogue with Stilgar in "Dune Messiah": Genghis Khan killed 4 million, Hitler killed 6 million, and I sterilized planets." What a magnificent "hero" Paul Atreides was. And how the followers of a leader expand the mistakes of their leadership (religious, political, etc).

Dune was one of the book series I put off reading for almost 35 years. I knew it largely took place in a desert world and that just never held any interest for me. It didn't seem very "scifi". Then I watched a video from Quinn about the three body problem, which I ended up reading (all of them). I noticed Quinn only ever made videos about really good stories so I gave in and got all of the dune audiobooks and listened to them. I'm glad I did. It's not in my top ten but it's definitely in my top 20. However, the recent movie was really, really good. So I'm looking forward to part 2 soon. Thanks for making me finally read dune.

DUNE II🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 The first book is such an amazing allegorical tale synthesizing Herbert's fascination with the sand dunes in my home state of OR along with the recent (for the time the book was written) neo-colonialist activity in the Middle East seen through such an iconic sci-fi novel. Simply brilliant!

My biggest potential disappointment is the erasure of Hasimir Fenring. He's one of my favorite supporting characters in the series, but so far they haven't announced an actor for him. However, the _have_ announced an actress for _Margot_ Fenring, his Bene Gesserit wife. This leads me to believe they cut Hasimir and gave all his story to Margot, which I don't like. I loved the husband-wife team dynamic between the Fenrings, and while I understand that neither was particularly important in the grand scheme of the original books, I can't help but feel like combining them into a singular advisor/spy/assassin will result in a character who exists entirely for plot exposition, with none of the nuance that came from _both_ Fenrings. It's possible that Hasimir will still be adapted faithfully, but if that was the case, I really think they'd have told us who's playing him by now.

The Emperor should look younger. In the book he was described with red hair. The Spice extends life, and Shaddam IV lived over 200, but he looked in his mid-40's. It sounds like the scene immediately following Paul's fight with Jamis, is being cut. I hope not, as I find it a strong important scene. It shows the reclaiming of a dead person's water, Paul getting wife and kids, and the distribution of Jamis' personal items which Paul almost abstained from, yet he finally joined, claimed an item and spoke how Jamis was his friend, and I believe it was this moment that truly sealed his place as a member of the tribe.

A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct. This every sister of the Bene Gesserit knows. To begin your study of the life of Maud'Dib, then, take care that you first place him in his time: born in the 57th year of the Padishah Emperor, Shaddam IV. And take the most special care that you locate Maud'Dib in his place: the planet Arrakis. Do not be deceived by the fact that he was born on Caladan and lived his first fifteen years there. Arrakis, the planet known as Dune, is forever his place.

Ah, I'm so excited for Dune part II s2 I really liked the way he put Irulan and the Emperor talking while playing chess because the game is an intellectual dispute, so this connects to the political intrigue element, that occurs just through conversations in several parts of the books, which I think didn't appear as much in the first film. In addition, the way that the title appears right in the moment of Dune being retaken by the Harkonen represents this new chapter in the history of Dune, because the first phase was marked by the arrival and fall of the Atreides and by Paul meeting the Fremen, and now we are going to see a Duna governed by the Harkonen again, but with the Fremen being lead by Paul to confront them

Like seeing Duncan out with the Freeman, but it was Stilgar that he was sensing. The knife at Lady Jessica, and the baby.... he also saw Chani killing him but under a red sky which is showing up in this next movie. I'm thinking Jessica might have another boy and name it Leto the 2nd and some Freemen seem it as the Mah'di. thanks so much for your content, quinn. you are a dune scholar, and i a mere fledgling. like you, i am excited - AMPED! - to see Dune Pt. 2. A question... what do you think of the possibility of Denis being so faithful and painstaking in his adaptation that he makes a third part? real Dune followers/ disciples understand that this series is so complex and multi-layered, that to give justice to all facets of even just the first novel, would honestly require more time. it's a proven fact that studies show the average movie-goer's attention span dictates the length of movies. hence, denis breaking his adaptation up into two parts. however, if he is willing to go that far, why not take it even further? make a third part. if they were to hold back on the final confrontation (fremen v. harkonnen/ emperor's forces, and mua'dib v feyd), and for example, flesh out mua'dib's life amongst the fremen (his relationship with his actual 'first wife', Jamis' wife who became paul's after killing him in combat; and his relationship with Jamis' sons, who he adopted. And also how she became somewhat of a 'godmother' to Alia as well. so forth and so on. also explore more about the harkonnens, feyd's attempted assassination of the baron, more on the "flawed" kwisatz haderach Fenring, etc.). there's SO MUCH in this first novel that i would love to see brought to the big screen. at any rate, my question is just speculation, a 'what if ...?' on my part. i think there's already released footage of mua'dib and feyd fighting, and that outcome brings to a close the end of herbert's first novel in the series. remember, this is the book that launches everything comprised in the Dune universe!! so loyalty and love mandates - DICTATES! - painstaking precision with adaptations. if not, one runs the risk of creating a flawed work like, for example, the original Game Of Thrones adaptation on HBO. They undertook a project that was not finished (is still not completed) and ended up having to improvise an ending that left GOT loyalists disappointed. I think that's what lynch did with his Dune adaptation: forced to create a Hollywood formulated ending that left ONLY the average movie goer satisfied. Dune scholars, disciples, aficionados, etc were irritated, angered and disappointed. now denis is in the spotlight. will his faithfulness to the source material produce a well-thought out, accurate adaptation? lynch failed in his two hour, hollywoodesque block-buster adaptation. denis has thus far shown ingenuity and integrity with the source material (breaking it up into two parts). Is that enough, though? again, loyalty and respect for herbert's masterpiece mandates accuracy as much as possible, without alienating and/ or angering his sponsors and shot callers and their demands (i.e. Liet's gender change). i just wonder if maintaining that level of committment might not require a part three. denis has already set a watermark by creating a two-part, motion picture adaptation. why not go even further, hold off on the ending, create a third part that explores and fleshes out more layers and textures of the novel? just a question ... would be interested in your thoughts and opinion on this 'what if ...?'

But those minutes and those scenes are the first ones that appear in the film and in that order or did they just choose those scenes at random? I'd rather that wasn't the exact order because I'd be sorry if they then cut the whole Jamis water scene and the water ceremony or when Paul is given the name Muab Dib, I hope they don't skip all that.

I would have liked to see some Pranda Bindu muscle control from Lady Jessica in the first movie. The actress does portray this physical control fairly well in her Mission Impossible appearances.

One of the few times I think the movie is better than the book. Hopefully the Dune part two is better than the second half of the book. Idk though it get weirder and more action packed towards the end. Spoiler warning!!!! Can't wait to see Paul go blind from the nuke, and then use nukes on house harkonen lol

QUINN!! i have questions, im reading heretics of dune atm and i just wanted some clarification on some things if you dont mind? i figured id ask you because i consider you the loremaster eh ;) What value do the ixians bring after the scattering? do you think Leto II knew all along about the bene tleilax super hidden plots? i recall he left them alone knowing they had no-ships right? was Sionna naturally bred or was she planted on rakis? i might have missed the answer to that one. and can i ask you questions later if i have any more? im a huge fan of yours and you definitely got me into dune and im super thankful for that my brother! P.S- hoping we at least get a release date for winds of winter in the next 4 years....
