It just amazes me that there are any native fauna left! The numbers of animals in these sounders shows that the work you are doing is vital to keeping the remaining ecosystem viable. Just keep it up, the environment thanks you.

It is an ongoing battle that we aren't apt to win for the state, but one where we can certainly give the landowners some relief. In fact right now, the hogs on the properties I normally hunt are largely absent. I see plenty of hogs on neighboring properties where I can't hunt (what I call, "Sanctuary Properties"), so I know there are still plenty around. I need to gain more permissions...

A great video. what gun/ ammo for most of the kills?
@CarpeSus5 жыл бұрын
I, and several but not all of the people who hunt with me, use 6.5 Grendel. Preferred ammo includes Federal American Eagle Speer TNT 90 gr. factory ammo, Hornady SST 123 gr. factory ammo, or various reloads of a variety of bullet types. I don't reload, so use factory ammo 98% of the time.

@@CarpeSus OK, that's fine with me. What ammo do you use now for the best knock down power in your 6.5 for these wild boars? Works really great!!!!!!!
@CarpeSus5 жыл бұрын
@@AThreeDogNight I don't reload, so use factory rounds 99.5% of the time. Hornady SST 123 gr. works really well and is always available. Also used was Federal's Speer TNT 90 gr. that is a varmint round, but also works really well. This ammo went out of production and was supposed to be back in production by now (December 2018) but I haven't seen any return to the store shelves. Hopefully, it will be back soon as I really like the stuff.

I'm always surprised at how much you have to lead a running hog.
@CarpeSus5 жыл бұрын
YES! And it is still disturbing to me to pull the trigger and to NOT be aiming at the target I intend to hit. However, it all comes down to basic math. You have to figure that your bullet will take 1-2 tenths of a second to arrive on target at the distances I shoot typically (75-150 yards) and that running hogs are probably going 20 mph and up to 30-35 if they look like they are going really fast. At 20 mph, a hog is moving nearly 30 feet per second. So if it takes your bullet 1/10 of a second to arrive on target, you need 3 feet of lead on a lateral running hog. If you are aiming at the shoulder at the time, it is quite likely that the hog will literally run out from in front of the bullet by the time it arrives. At 30 mph, a hog is moving at 44 feet per second. Flight time of 1/10 second means 4.4 feet. A longer shot with longer flight time can mean making a shot that looks impossible, but it is really no differ than what a quarterback does when trying to hit a running receiver down field, only the hog doesn't work to try to catch the bullet like the receiver does the ball, LOL. The hardest thing to overcome when shooting moving targets at distance is to realize that shooting directly at the hog is often the surest way to miss the hog or to make a really bad shot on it.

Carpe Sus 😳 .458 socom is NO JOKE!!!!!!
@CarpeSus5 жыл бұрын
@@kalikasurf It is an excellent round. The only real shortcoming to it and similar cartridges such as the .450 Bushmaster or the .50 Beowulf is that it comes with fairly significant (not painful, just big) recoil which means that there are slower followup shots, such as when trying to engage multiple targets.

What you need down there is a whole group like that which nearly wiped out the Buffalo. Get organized and solve the problem.
@CarpeSus4 жыл бұрын
Sure, but the problem there is that the buffalo were largely killed in the wide open spaces of the plains, on public or territorial lands with no private ownership, where you could ride your horse for days and not see another human, and if you did, it might be a Native American. There were no worries of shooting people's livestock, homes, vehicles, etc. There were no hunting laws to hamper the killing. There were no firearms laws to hamper gun ownership. Finding the bison wasn't hard. They created their own dust storms when millions would move across the land. They could be shot from a fixed position or hunters would ride alongside on horses and shoot bison. Times are much changed now.
@bruce83214 жыл бұрын
well thought out. There must be a better way to end it quicker though

@CarpeSus4 жыл бұрын
Part 2 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pd-EaLSemtfJgWQ.html Part 3 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jr-la9iaz63QYpc.html Keep in mind that these were only the Bang Flops, hogs that fell over with a given shot. There were a lot more that were shot and ran a ways before collapsing. As far as 3-3-3, that may be the case with the overall population. However, by keeping pressure on individual properties, damage is limited. Sadly, there are many nights I go out to my properties and cannot find any hogs due to the pressure I keep on them. I am at a point on most of my properties of doing 'maintenance hunting' which means the properties are largely free of hogs and I am just shooting new interlopers that show up, hoping to expand into vacant land. They come from neighboring properties where I don't have access and where the landowners do not actively hunt or trap hogs.
