53 years later, and I still enjoy listening to this as if it's the first time. It never gets old.

The Doors released LA Woman in April of 1971. Jim Morrison, the singer, died in Paris, France 3 months later in July 1971. 🎼☮️💟

The best American rock band. They had a lot of songs that you had to play driving down the highway. I could cruise all night listening to The Doors & we often did.

Great band with a jazz drummer, jazz and classically trained keyboard player ,flamenco guitarist and a crazy but brilliant poet/vocalist who heard songs and melodies in his head but didn't know a thing about singing and couldn't play a note of music. This is the Doors! Such a unique sounding band whose first album is in the library of congress! Yes and Morrison could sing and actually had a pretty damn good voice! One hell of a band. Carlos Santana to this day still picks the Doors as his favorite band!

And they had Elvis Presleys Bass player on this album.

The story behind the lyrics is quite interesting. By this point in their career, Jim Morrison's rock star lifestyle and the general edginess of The Doors music and live concerts had made him a target for the establishment of the time, particularly in the southern states of the US. In September 1970 he was convicted (posthumously pardoned) of indecent exposure at a concert in Florida, in what was effectively an establishment witch hunt, and was facing 6 months in prison. So by the time they came to record this album, he and his girlfriend had decided to basically leave it all behind and move to France. In this song, Jim is basically saying goodbye to his adopted home city of L.A, by personifying it as a woman whom he loves but cannot stay with. It's a brilliant piece of songwriting. The following year, Jim died suddenly in Paris. The circumstances of his death are still subject to debate even today, and there have long been rumours and theories that he might have staged it. Fuelled in part by the fact the L.A Woman album is littered with references to running away, adopting a new identity and starting a new life.

The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 60's, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. They had a lot of great songs such as "Riders On The Storm", "Roadhouse Blues", "Love Me Two Times", "The End", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "People Are Strange", "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Love Her Madly". Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.

@@frodo289 I just never thought about it that way . The voice just went with the music . Then again ... what do I know ? I think that people that complain about Dave Mustaine's voice are kind of goofy 😈

Tragic story. Jim Morrison, wrote some amazing stuff. There are some who say he was one of America’s great poets. His biography, No One Here Gets Out Alive, is an excellent read. Mr. Mojo Risin’, that’s an anagram of Jim Morrison.
