Thanks for reacting to my request!! I’m glad you guys liked it. If you want to do another smiths song “this charming man” is a favorite / most popular song by them.

The best English band of the 80s (with The Cure right behind them). I would consider the Clash and the Police but half of their music was released in the 70s. The Replacements being the best American band of the 80s (with the Pixies right behind them).

The Cure, Depeche Mode & for ska, The English Beat (known merely as The Beat in the UK where they hail from). Where Is My Mind? by the PIXIES or How Soon is Now? by The Smiths would also be good picks.

I like to request a live version, available on KZfaq of "I Know It's Over" - The Smiths Live - 1986 It's an astonishing live performance of an already excellent studio recording. Will give you a great introduction of how the band looks. The studio version is a classic so that's also recommended. Many thanks A

They smashed into my skull first time i heard them. they were Marmite in the Uk but became huge making some amazing songs. Loved their willingness to just ignore any pretence at being a chart band. Morrissey has lost a lot of his fans because he's spouted some real rubbish but it shouldn't detract from his legacy of work. Johnny Marr is a true legend and is doing well with his recent solo output. I hate the Flu too😁

A brilliant version of this was done on the Old Grey Whistle Test.Johnny Marr is the best English guitarist ever….. Check out The Smiths Headmaster Ritual a song about how barbaric English schools of the 60’s and 70’s could be if you weren’t a tough streetwise kid

Interesting, check out Subdivisions by Rush. Living in the suberbs trying to navigate throgh life as a young person. If you were not the cool kid you were cast out. Not quite the same but deep. Was the Old Grey Whistle Test a TV show or an album? I will have Jack search for it.Thank you for commenting and watching.😁

@@jackndan6603 yeah I listened to it and it’s pretty much through American eyes obviously and is slightly poetically veiled but I get the gist of it.Morrissey lyrics on Headmaster Ritual are very abrupt and straight to the point and will resonate with any kid who went through the comprehensive school system of the 60’s 70’ and early 80’s until corporal punishment was abolished.Teachers in those days thought they could bully and intimidate you into their regime, which sadly led to lots of kids either going into their shell for fear of a beating or do what most kids do/did and that was to just bunk off and play truant.Thankfully the school system has Changed dramatically in the uk and is a far better place.Good luck and enjoy your Smiths experience as they are still the best band I’ve seen live by far (and I’ve seen a lot including another UK legendary band… The Jam)
