i'd say go watch it, it may not be the same level of "greatness" with LOTR but some of the scenes in the movie is actually pretty good continuation for LOTR

The Hobbit sucks.

I was... disappointed by The Hobbit. The actors were fine for the most part. (I really enjoyed Martin Freeman as Bilbo, for instance.) But it's trying too hard to be a prequel to The Lord of the Rings when the book was not written that way. So the tone of The Hobbit leaps wildly all over the place from trying to be an fun fairy tale for kids to an adventure romp to a sprawling epic (like LotR was). The fact that The Hobbit was stretched into three movies did it no favors, either, leading to narrative drag that simply didn't exist in the books. And I think that Peter Jackson fell into a similar trap that George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels: after the great success of the first trilogy, they now had money thrown at them for digital effects and CGI and so got a little overindulgent on that count, instead of relying on the more practical effects that were so successful originally. That being said, I won't tell you to not watch it. Watch it and form your own opinion, rather than letting people like me color it too much.

Read the books, start with the hobbit book and come back to it. The movies are cool if you love the book, it's neat seeing some of the scenes come to life but there's a lot of garbage in with it

I liked The Hobbit, but I didn’t read the books. Movies should respect the source material, so I understand the frustration of the book readers.

Seems you are enjoying so far. Pretty cool. Fun fact... Arwen played by Liv Tyler, the elf that brought Frodo to her father, in real life her father is Steven Tyler lead singer of Aerosmith.

The ringwraiths CAN go into water but they have intense fear against it. In lore it is explained as water is the most pure element that contains least evil in it. It's also a reference to European folk tales where monsters often couldn't cross running water.

Saruman ripped down the trees for fuel - to power the machines that breed his army of uruk-hai - the "super-orcs". The doors of Moria needed a "Forgot Password" button. A four-day journey across Moria - Moria is not just a mine, it was the major city of the dwarves, a kingdom that spanned the width of the mountain range. Pippin is the youngest of the hobbits, and by hobbit standards is essentially still a teenager, which is why he's rather reckless and immature.

"He needs to keep it in a better spot." He actually keeps it there for a reason. The ring can adjust its size at will, and make itself fall off people's fingers. That's what happened to Isildur. So he keeps it on a chain so that it can't pull that crap with him.

3:23 If you pay close attention, each time the Ringwraiths show up, there are more of them. On the road, there's one. A second one shows up soon after. When Frodo jumps onto the ferry, three are seen. At the Prancing Pony Inn in Bree, we see four. At Weathertop, there are five. When Arwen flees with Frodo, all nine are present. 4:00 A Morgul blade is a cursed weapon. Aragorn says shortly after that it would cause Frodo to slip into the shadow world permanently, becoming a wraith like the Nazgul and completely enslaved to the will of Sauron. Which would, of course, be a Bad Thing (TM). 5:28 Arwen shines with radiance to Frodo's vision because elves exist in the spirit realm as well as the physical realm in a way that simple humans do not. 5:48 She said, "Noro lim, Asfaloth!" which translates to "Run swift, Asfaloth [the name of the horse]!" So, you're pretty much spot on. 6:12 The Nazgul can cross water, but they aren't huge fans of it. In the books, their horses were spooked into running into the ford by Aragorn and the others coming up behind them with lit torches, and then they were swept away by the flood (which was brought on by Elrond). The horse-shaped waves were a special touch added by Gandalf. 8:14 A lot of the designs (for everything from sets to costumes and props, and even some shot compositions) were heavily influenced by famous Lord of the Rings illustrators Alan Lee and John Howe. 8:47 Aragorn/Strider was singing the Lay of Lúthien earlier. Lúthien was an elf a long time ago and is actually a shared ancestor of both Aragorn and Arwen. (Aragorn is the 63rd or so great-grandson of Arwen's uncle, Elros.) Lúthien fell in love with Beren, a human, and after much hardship, they married and had a son, who was the great-grandfather of Arwen. There are a *lot* of parallels drawn between the stories of Aragorn/Arwen and Beren/Lúthien. 11:41 Peter Jackson definitely took full advantage of the sweeping vistas of New Zealand when filming this. The Lord of the Rings was a huge marketing coup for the New Zealand tourist bureau, that's for sure. It's amazing how many of the places featured in these films are *real* as opposed to created on a sound stage or in a computer. 17:03 For what it's worth, in the books Pippin's unfortunate noisy moment with the hole is not obviously linked to their discovery (it actually happens well before they are attacked at Balin's tomb, when they were pondering which way to go from the crossroads).

Best part of this movie is when Arwen summons the water spirits. From that moment I fell in love with the Elven language .. and also Arwen :P Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nîn Bruinen, dan in Ulair!” (Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to the great word, flow waters of Loudwater, against the Ringwraiths!)

The “morgul blade” that stabbed Frodo is a large dagger that dissolves when it meets flesh. It’s designed to turn whoever it stabs into another wraith. Only the ringwraiths carry them.

The Morgul blade that Frodo was stabbed with has a tip that breaks off and remains in the wound, working it's way to his heart while at the same turning him to a wraith like the Nine are.

@@PhilBagels exactly, I think it was orginally drawn to the flooded pools outside Moria when Moria fell to orcs/Durins Bane. Evil feeds upon and builds upon evil in middle earth.

Morgul Blades are a cursed blade. They can slowly turn the victim into a wraith of sorts.

The morgul blade would of turned frodo into a wrong wraith if it was not treated in time. It digs deep into your soul corrupting every last bit of your esence with its hateful essence. It forever damages your soul however the hateful essence can be stopped from spreading if treated in time. It's not exactly that but it will turn you into a wraith regardless.

Being stabbed by a Morgul blade is really, really bad. The tip detaches when it stabs someone and travels through the body to the heart. It will turn you into a Wraith and the damage is irreversible.

Hi guys, I'd say watch The Hobbit. It's not as good as Lord of the Rings but it's not as bad as some folks say (if you agree that the LOTR trilogy is a 10/10 then I'd say The Hobbit is a strong 6) and there are some great scenes in it. Richard Armitage & Ken Stott are great as Thorin & Balin and you get to see Saruman before his fall from grace (& let's face it, anything with Christopher Lee in is worth watching). 👍👍 from the UK.

Spoiler for those who wish to read the book The part of Arwen was created by Peter Jackson. Most of her story comes from the Appendices of the book. It's an Elf, Glorfindel, who finds them and it's his horse, Asfaloth, who is the hero takes Frodo to Rivendell all by himself. It's Elrond and Gandalf combined that released the river.
