FIRST TIME WATCHING The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King | Movie Reaction (Part 3)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Movie Description:
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a 2003 epic fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson, based on the third volume of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The film is the final instalment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was produced by Barrie M. Osborne, Jackson and Fran Walsh, and written by Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Jackson. Continuing the plot of The Two Towers, Frodo, Sam and Gollum are making their final way toward Mount Doom in Mordor in order to destroy the One Ring, unaware of Gollum's true intentions, while Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the rest are joining forces together against Sauron and his legions in Minas Tirith. It was preceded by The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002).
The film features an ensemble cast including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Bernard Hill, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Karl Urban, John Noble, Andy Serkis, Ian Holm, and Sean Bean. The Return of the King was financed and distributed by American studio New Line Cinema, but filmed and edited entirely in Jackson's native New Zealand, concurrently with the other two parts of the trilogy. It premiered on 1 December 2003 at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington and was theatrically released on 17 December 2003 in the United States, and on 18 December 2003 in New Zealand. The film was highly acclaimed by both critics and audiences, who considered it to be a landmark in filmmaking and the fantasy film genre. It grossed $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2003 and the second highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release, as well as the highest-grossing film released by New Line Cinema.[5] It was also the highest-grossing film released by parent company Time Warner until it was surpassed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in 2011.
The Return of the King is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made.[citation needed] The film received numerous accolades; it won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 76th Academy Awards, where it also won all eleven awards for which it was nominated, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Visual Effects. This remains the most Academy Awards won by a single film, and is the current record for the highest clean sweep at the Oscars. It also became the second sequel to win Best Picture, the first being The Godfather: Part II, and the second film series whose installments have all won Best Visual Effects, after the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Everyone loves Sam. We all need to be more like him. As for Eowyn, she was poisoned when she stabbed the Witch-King. In the books, there was this whole thing about the hands of the king being the hands of a healer and that would be a sign that the heir had come to claim the throne. Aragorn heals her and that's a sign of his heritage.

I love these movies and I think the Hobbit movies are good too. Go in with an open mind and see what you think. The cast for them is brilliant.

when you asked where Merry learned to fight so fast, remember that in "The Fellowship Of The Ring", he and Pippin learned some things from Boromir while they were all taking a rest.

Frodo needed to go with the Elves, he would suffer every time on the anniversary of the time day he was stabbed by the Witch King and Shelob the Giant Spider. Also carrying the ring had messed him up badly so they gave him permission to take the journey to the Undying Lands were he would be healed and could live out his life in peace. Eventually when Sam was old and Rosie his wife had finally passed on, Sam was given permission to take one of the last ships and join Frodo, since Sam had actually carried the ring. I love that you guys weren't so sure about this at the beginning, but by the end, you were all in, especially the young lady. lol. A part of you will forever remain in Middle Earth with the rest of us, and that is not a bad thing at all. Take care!

Merry and Eowyn were poisoned by the Witch-King’s foul aura. Even wounding him struck one with such a terrible foulness that it literally was like being poisoned

They are Mumakil the ancestors of elephants, first evolved in Southern Harad and used as war beasts by the Haradrim. The hobbits called them oliphaunts.

When Eomer screams he may very well in that moment think that she is dead but if you take it from his perspective she shouldn’t have been there at all. He knows what he has just been through and how lucky he is to be alive and then he comes across the lifeless body of his sister lying on the ground of battle. Eomer is one of my favourite “low key” characters in this. His character is actually one of a few that Tolkien took from his favourite story Beowulf.

I love the Lord of the Rings so much!!! Recently, I find out that Miranda Otto, who played Eowyn, played the role of Zelda Spellman in the TV series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

seeing this at release in theatres back in 2003 as an 11 year old blew my freaking mind as well as everyone else's in the theatre. The hype for these movies was massive back then and the legacy still continues to this day. Greatest movies and Trilogy of all time!

The fact that gandalf brings 3 eagles: one for Frodo, one for Sam, and one for Smeagol (despite it not being in the books) really drives home the hopefulness that Gandalf is a symbol of, because even after everything that all the characters go through, he always thought Gollum/Smeagol could be redeemed. It is quite sad but also fitting that the ring be destroyed via an accident with Gollum trying to save it even before his own life.

Lord of the Rings is awesome. So many good characters and the story is epic. The cinematography was beautiful. New Zealand where this was filmed is incredible. My husband was there on business and saw the Hobbit houses. He said the mountains were in the south and he didn’t have time to see them. Loved Sam, Aragorn and Frodo the most but they were all good. Just a fun trilogy. There are a couple of Hobbit movies that show Bilbo when he was young. I liked them. You might enjoy those too.

can you imagine what that gound felt like during that charge? i mean, in a horse race, just a group of 10 horses makes the ground rumble. can only imagine what the ground felt like during a charge of thousands or tens of thousands of horses. alot of people dont really know that if properly done, a well-used cavalry charge can easily devastate large ranks of infantry. hence why Rohan so easily plowed through the ranks of the orc infantry.
