The TV commercials serve to give some color to the type of world that the movie is set in: one where commercialism is rampant, violence is accepted, and people are really gullible. The *really* funny thing is that the fake commercials are only slight exaggerations of the style of commercial that would actually air in the 80's, with their corny, overearnest, or obvious pitches, poking fun at our own ad-ridden consumer society. My favorite one is the one for "Nuke 'em", where they reference Muammar Gaddafi's "line of death", and have fun using nuclear weapons on each other, which was a real fear people had at the time.

And we see how their society is in other ways, too. Ocp, a mega Corp, owns pretty much everything, including hospitals and the police--and it's all profit driven. If you listen to the movie carefully, they were even making things harder on the police on purpose, putting people like Murphy in dangerous areas because they needed "volunteers" for their robocop project. Even their plan to build delta city is an example of some extreme gentrification, but this film doesn't really get into that aspect.

RoboDoc: The Creation of Robocop is a documentary that just came out last October. It's incredible. You'll really gain a higher appreciation for what went into making this unique, iconic film. Passionate nerds who are masters at their craft coming together to tell a story. And yeah... the music score is recognized as one of the all-time greats, by Basil Poledouris.

Terminator / Robocop crossover happened in the 90s... several comics and video games were made of that premise... and they crossed over again in Mortal Kombat 11.
@thehobliks7 ай бұрын
There's an X rated version of this that is extended by a minute or two. Mr. Kenny getting shot by ED-209 is extended and much more bloodier. Murphy's death is more violent (shows another view of where his hand was, shows his arm getting shot off and getting shot in the head looks different with some additional dialogue), and Boddicker squirting blood out of his neck has a closer shot so more blood. This movie rules so fucking hard. Also, Robocop and Terminator crossover did happen! It was a comic book series and 2 different video games called RoboCop VS Terminator.

There was a robocop/terminator cross over comic book - they were pretty stellar.

14:37 See: *Robocop Original Trailer* The Robocop theme music wasn't ready when they did the first promo, so Orion just used music from their previous cyborg movie, _The Terminator,_ which basically means they sold _Robocop_ to the public as a new kind of Terminator. James Cameron was upset about it because he thought they were actually going to use the Terminator music in the movie, but it was just for that first trailer. The _Robocop_ production team had actually sought Orion Pictures for distribution because they had done such a good job on promotion and distribution of _The Terminator._

@12:56 Thank you for keeping that full scene of Robocop going on duty with the music in the background. Most first time reviewers skip it. Awesome movie. Just subbed! Also for the record Robocop is sort of a parody of 80's American Consumerism and Corporations and over the top violence. Hence the over the top advertisements etc. Paul Verhoven, the Director also directed Starship Troopers which was filmed in a similar manner. Lots of satire and parody and not meant to be taken seriously.
@WillTalksMovies7 ай бұрын
I left that scene in because I don’t know if I mentioned it in the reaction but I fell in love with the music so wanted to have it in there

@@WillTalksMovies Awesome. If you loved Verhoven's Robocop, I would definitely suggest doing Starship Troopers when you get a chance if you haven't seen it. It's just as much of a fun ride.

It actually wouldn't do much shooting Robocop in his face, as it's not bone, his face is made of metal, they moulded his face based on is original and simply applied his skin to it!

im under the impression that they tried to make a movie version of the comic book relentless cold-hearted super cop, Judge Dredd (same mask, leaving lower face exposed), but they couldnt get the rights for it, so they made enough changes to legally make this version of it.

You know, you're absolutely right; Kurtwood Smith would have made a great Joker! :D This movie still stands the test of time, even near-40 years on. And how many current Hollywood crapheaps will be remembered in ten? I'm surprised you didn't get the point of the adverts. They're obvious world-building. They show just how insanely sociopathic society has become.

No she is shown recovering in hospital, drugged to make sure she doesnt say too much, in a deleted scene. I would have liked an ending scene to show Murphy patrolling the streets in a "Turbo charger" Police car, about to get out & stop a crime.

The reason the aliens need human hosts is because in order for them to become what they mature into, the embryo takes assimilates some of the host's DNA. This small snippet of genetic material causes the newborn xenomorph to grow into a form similar to the creature they emerge from.

Amazing classic RoboCop directed by Paul Verhoeven starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Daniel O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Miguel Ferrer, Kurtwood Smith and music score by Basil Poledouris. This film has two sequels and one remake RoboCop 2 (1990) RoboCop 3 (1993) and RoboCop (2014 remake) Thank you bro great reaction
@Texy887 ай бұрын
_Robocop 2_ is quite good but it's not really on a par with this masterpiece. The satire's not as sharp and the film is a bit too long. You also don't get Basil Poledouris doing the music in _Robocop 2_ (he was unavailable at the time). Paul Verhoeven did not direct the sequels. There's still some bits to enjoy (not to mention that I believe _Robocop 2_ was the last Hollywood film to have any stop-motion animation in it); just don't expect to enjoy the overall experience quite as much as this.

If you want more of this, i recommend Dredd (with Karl Urban, NOT Sylvester Stallone). It's the closest we can get to more of this style of movie. Judge Dredd (comic book) was the inspiration for Robocop. If you watch Dredd, you can see the influence, for yourself.

I NEVER thought that the news bulletins, or the comedy adverts got in the way of the story. in fact the "big is back" Dinosaur one, came at the perfect time after Murphy is ambushed outside the OCP building. the 80s were only about Capitalism & opportunistic power, & so it makes sense to show patronising propaganda ads, in the film. for 1st time viewers- they don't want it known they used a human being, that's why theyve kept him behind a cage ONLY OCP access, also the helmet is to protect his organic matter but also to disguise him. Under the skin, he has a metal jaw (visible when he takes off the Helmet) above all this is a social commenting film about a near future lawless Society, & Corporations that have been given too much power by the national Government.

Robo 1 is honestly the best, 2 I have heard good things about, some how saw 3 and it's honestly the worst of the movies outside of the awful remake. Also the new Robocop Rouge City for PC, and Consoles takes place after Robo 2, and there's a made for TV Mini series from the late 90's early 2000's, called Prime Directives. It has some down swings, but the main character moments, and Commercialism satire is still on point, and it focuses on Robocop about 10 to 20 years after he's made, and struggles to remain useful, or to find purpose in a world that's moved on from him.

You didn't watch the real version of that ED-209 scene where Mr. Kinney got lit up. You watched the edited version. Check out the directors cut. It's here on KZfaq. They had to tone the original down to get an R rating. With the full scene (and one other edited scene), the movie was actually rated X.

His face isn’t actually his face. It’s just plastic to look like his face because they figured his mind would break if he looked in the mirror and didn’t see anything recognizable. I think in the third movie you see what’s underneath the plastic and it ain’t pretty.
