At our shop we never take the top cover off to repair the carburetor. If you take off the black panel and remove the two screws on the handle you can pull the bottom cover out without taking off the top and it's a little less work but I understand doing it for the video to show everything.

In the 90's, my father had 1 of these, with a Tecumseh 2-stroke engine. One time, when I was reassembling the covers after cleaning the carb, the rod for the choke attachment slipped off & I missed it, so fully assemble the covers, then disassemble them and this time, make sure the choke connection was correct and reassemble the covers again. Around 2004, I placed an ad and sold it locally, and I had several replies. A lot of people wanted it - they knew it did a pretty decent job for a single-stage small unit.

I've worked on a few of these, Almost always a carb issue if they don't run. Good video.

I’ve found primer bulb placement much easier if positioned on the metal frame first and finish up mounting the plastic cover

I became a convert to the light 2-stroke machines several years ago. I have a Honda HR621, but I use this thing's little brother, the Powerlite 1000, for most Chicago snowfalls because it's light and always seems to 'punch above its weight class'. Choice of premix oil seems to have a major effect, and I've never seen a machine that handles wet, slushy snow clog-free better than the Toro Powerlite.

You can pull out the rod crank for the chute allowing you to take off the top cover so there's less plastic in the way

Your video helped me a bunch. Brought the son in laws home to repair before winter. Left old gas in and won't start.... so carb time!

I've had one of those for over 30 years. The dealer said it had a Suzuki GTS (Guaranteed To Start)(in two pulls, which it did for years before the primer started to act up) 2 stroke motor. It is a great unit. Mine isn't an electric start, but wish it was. I prefer to use it over my 28" S.P. unit, if the snow isn't too deep.

It's a Suzuki 4.5HP engine. I just picked one up today from someone off FB Marketplace for free, model #38185. An aftermarket carburetor runs about $10-$11 on Ebay, that's the way I'm going for now.

Not exactly my first choice for a snowblower but, I like the fact that it needs premix fuel. You can run them at a high degree of inclination and the engine will never suffer from oil starvation. I'd like to get my hands on an old 2 cycle lawn-boy push-mower though.

Good Job Bob. I have never ran into a suzuki 2 stroke engine or carburetor down here but we dont have any snowblowers down here either. LOL The carb looked similar to a Honda carb to me didn't look to difficult to work on. Hope the son and the rest of the family is doing well. Have a great weekend buddy. God Bless!!!

I replaced the carb on mine but you are right, the struggle is to get that thing back together. I saw you had removed the top cover and although it took about 10 minutes to remove it all, it saved me another hour and a litany of 4 letter words trying to get the bottom piece on. Also, by removing the top you can access the wires for the switch and ensure the choke lever is seated correctly and ensure the primer hose is still connected.
