It tells you how to make one in the Haynes Repair Manual, but it didn't work for me I had to adjust mine out a little further. The most that will happen is your brakes will drag and you'll have to back off a bit.

That tool is such a time saver! I tried using my caliper gauge and horrible math skills and just ordered the tool instead.

@@Scrapla1That tool is the bees knees, i bought one and i set mine but i think i set it too short (no fault of the tool) so my brakes are kinda longish plus the new booster i installed the rod moved really easy so i think it might have backed itself in too, I'm gonna check it out this weekend,the car stops fine but like i said the pedal is kinda too long for my taste.

I just replaced my booster but now my breaks are very hard. Already bled the breaks any idea how to adjust

It could be, but it also could be your brake calipers, brake hose, or any number of brake components. There's no way I can diagnose it from my computer. Sorry

Yeah, you dont need to turn that adjusting screw very much. A little turn translates to a lot at the pedal. Too much and your brakes stay on all the time, not enough and you'll have a lot of play at the pedal. You could have a separate problem. I'd ask them what they did? They should fix it for free. I dont know if all brake boosters have an adjustment screw, the Fords from this era had them. A google search of your vehicle would probably tell you if you have one or not. Thanks for Watching!

There's a plastic protective cover over the post no need to squirm. I could touch it all day with a tool and not make any contact with the battery.

Defective brake booster?

@@WhipCityWrencher Then one before made my pedal sink when starting the engine, I pulled up the brake booster vacuum hose and that made me come to the conclusion that it was defective when it didn't sink and had a firm pedal. I replaced it assuming the pushrod came pre-adjusted. I bleed the lines in the master cylinder and the rest of the brake lines. The brakes kept gradually getting weaker until they completely sunk after sitting one night after driving it with the new brake booster for almost 3000 miles. I checked if the ports on the master cylinder had any fluid pressure by taking off the lines from the master cylinder. The front hole had air pressure but did not actually pump any fluid, the rear one had some but I do not know if it's enough pressure. That made me think my pushrod is adjusted to far in or out, I am not sure.

@@thtblack5.7 You may have a defective booster, If you adjust the pushrod too far out your brakes won't even release. So adjust them a little at a time. counterclockwise will give you more breaking. The majority of these boosters are rebuilds and they dont always have them adjusted to the correct length. Good luck!👍
