That's right, you can do this with just basic tools in your garage. No need for the special tool, unless you just want a fancy tool that you'll only use once or twice. In that case, see links below.

$20 tool: a.co/g1u0VQM

Great video , helped me do my Mondeo rear brake disc and pad renewal . To help I made a simple tool to turn the piston back into the calliper body as they were too stiff to use long nosed pliers. The tool was made from brass 3mm thick by 30mm wide. I filed the centre to form a recess leaving two prongs on the outside. Then I could apply more force and rotate the piston back. I used brass because it is easy to file but you could use aluminium or steel if that is more available. Thanks anyway for the details.

You can also put a Fusion in maintenance mode for that rear caliper piston. I like your style with the needle nose pliers. Won't break it that way. Just make sure the notches are Perpendicular. There's a KZfaq video how to put the vehicle in maintenance mode it takes 10 seconds to activate.

Instead of a C clamp, after the piston is screwed in, you can put the old pads on the caliper, and pry between them to force the cylinder back in the rest of the way. Similar to prying it back in on the front, while the old pads are still on the car.

Thank you sir for your instructions, followed pretty much all the way. However, let me suggest the piston retraction after winding it up. Instead of cramping it and risk damaging the electro motor, just return the caliper with the old break pads and stick the screwdriver to exert pressure on the piston. Did it just like that and all worked flawlessly.
