Thank you so much for patiently teaching us watercolor painting. I am learning so much! Already using the technique of wetting the back and the front of WC paper,gives me more time!

Good to hear. I don't wet the front however, unless I am painting a fog or misty scene. That way I can still create hard edged white shapes (just the paper color) in the sky.

Wow, thanks so much Joe, learnt a lot from this session and need to have more control over how I use my colours and not mixing up the same colour over and over again. Using the colours already mixed is something I struggle with but slowly getting better. Once again, Thank you so much Joe for sharing your knowledge and skills with us, I for one greatly appreciate your time and effort you put into these demo's for us

Thank you for you great lessons I`m so happy that I found you on You Tube Channel. May be it`s possible to show us how to paint shadows in watercolor. I think the color and intensity of the shadow is very important. Many greetings from Germany, Petra .

A very useful totorial! Thank you for sharing. May I ask if all refection in clear water always lighter than the original sibjects?
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright Жыл бұрын
The general guideline is that reflections of dark objects are lighter and reflections for light objects are darker. This is because of the merging of the color of the water with the color of the reflections. In this case the reflection is also changed by the color of the sand just below the surface of the water.

Hi sir, I recently found your channel while looking for watercolor lessons. Your demonstrations are really helpful. I saw from other channels that they also wet the back of their paper before painting to make it cling to a surface, but they only wet it once. Is there a reason why you wet the back of your paper many times at the beginning before wetting it again right before you start?
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright Жыл бұрын
The paper can absorb a great deal of water, which is why paint on the front dries so quickly. I have found that by wetting the back and the board a number of times I can paint for much longer without the need to use a spray bottle. My board has a porous serface, which is why I wet it a couple of times. I will be doing a video on this topic soon as I have received a number of questions about it.

So that’s how people are able to work on their painting for a longer time without it drying too fast. I have struggled with this issue for a long time. I also watched your spray bottle tutorial earlier and will try both methods. Thank you sir!

Thanks for the demo and for sharing your thoughts as you paint. So helpful. Wonderful painting! I do want to ask what palette you are using? Thanks Joe
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright Жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! The palette I use is one that I designed myself and printed on the 3D printer. I wanted a palette that I could use in my studio and when plein air painting. So far I have not found a viable process to mass produce it. The main thing is to have a palette that holds lots of paint and with 3 to 4 large mixing areas.
