Hades is absolutely unbelievable. A masterpiece through and through. I love Supergiant Games. When I first heard they're doing a rogue-like I was kinda disappointed, considering that's not a genre i'm particulary fond of. But man oh man, Hades is now probably my favourite Supergiant game and I absolutely adore every one of them. These guys are geniuses.

Just finished Ghosts and now playing the multiplayer. This game is great! They deserve to win game of the year in my opinion thus far. New IP, beautiful world, great story, awesome combat. They earned this one.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is the ONLY true GOTY!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Final Fantasy VII Remake is my choice so far. With Genshin Impact’s elemental system it’s a little simple for me. You just choose a different element that you have on your team and usually get a reaction, then switch to your damage dealer. I do really enjoy it though but don’t know how long it’ll last.

GOTY for me is definitely Animal Crossing. This game has been with me through tough and happy times... I don’t know if I’d be mentally sane without this game this year.

For the dpad vs analog stick debate: If you have the option to use both, you are at a disadvantage using an analog stick. Analog sticks have dead zones where your input won't register until the stick reaches a certain position, whereas a d pad is a digital input that registers instantaneously. There are digital joysticks, but these are typically only in arcades.

I found interesting that while playing Overcooked 2 I use the thumbstick except for when I can easily line up a shot by using the dpad. But for everything else I use the thumbstick.

Ive been playing mortal Kombat for many years, and I’ve only really played on a PlayStation for the most part, but I’ve alway been told the disconnected buttons on the ps d pad is better for fighting games than the connected Xbox d pad.

FF7 Remake is my GOTY

Regarding the d-pad vs. stick discussion: I usually prefer a d-pad for 2-day platformers, but whether I can use the stick has to do with the controller in question. The Switch's joy-con d-pad has a really short travel distance, so it still feels responsive for platformers. However, I really don't like the playstation controllers stick for precision stuff because it has a large travel distance and the lower position is more awkward to me.

Civ 6 and breath of the wild are also my most played switch games

Pokémon Go is fantastic and is pretty different to when first released 4 years ago. I have more fun with it than any console games due to the weekly fun quests and constantly added content. It’s a 9/10.

I'm deeply jealous of Damon's GPK collection. I've been trying to find some of the newer ones and having no luck whatysoever.

Don't sleep on Half Life Alyx and Ori and the Will of the Whisps. Still my two favorite games of the year, although November might change that.

Genshin Impact has been really great so far, loving the world and the combat. It's pretty and I feel that same feeling as I had in BoTW where there is always something to find at the top of the next hill. Hades has also been huge amounts of fun

I agree with Daemon. I have both ps5 and series x preorder but there isn’t anything coming out for it to justify the xbox purchase. I might keep it just because it looks so cool and sleek. Plus, with all the studios Microsoft have bought up, they’re going have the big exclusives eventually come out.

People should understand that the diference power between PS5 and XboxSx is just around 14%. Thats not a lot. To out in perspedtive, the diference between the original PS4 and Xbox1 was almost 30% and thats why we could see the gap. This time around i actually think that the double IO thruput of the PS5 will be way more visible than the 1.7Tflops more that the XboxSx has..

Using left stick vs. d-pad is not about generation or "being used to it". I use the left stick to save my thumb. If there is a game that ONLY let you use the d-pad, it's a non-purchase for me. That or I use a gamepad remapper tool.

On the topic of Genshin Impact, I've spent more than $150 for sure but also I've played it literally everyday since release for at least probably 5 hours on work days since I can play on my phone and way over 5 hours on weekends so I haven't regretted it for a second.

Not sure if it's the room space but Tina's audio quality is waaay off, and distracting.... thought she was using an integrated mic until I saw this 👍

D pad occasionally with street fighters

I'm not sure it was games looking better on PS4 that swayed people to buy PS4 over Xbox One like Tina says. I'm sure price had a larger impact since the early Xbox One included Kinect and cost $100/£80 more than the PS4. Not to mention the PR nightmare they had with Don Mattrick and the "always online" feature they were trying to push.

D pad on the Switch pro controller is the worst of all. Died so many times in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Because, of sudden ground pounds happening suspiciously over death pits. Pressing right or left only, it's still possible to slightly shift the d pad downward unintentionally, and get a ground pound. A that d pad sure likes to wiggle. Especially under twitchy game play.

Playing Doom Eternal on PC was the most outright fun I had this year. Flight Sim almost made me shed a when i flew over Cape Town at dusk with my favourite chilled Spotify playlist on in the background. Shame not enough people will experience it.

I wonder if the guides to all 900 Korok Seeds in BotW were written by a third party or if Zelda creators helped out on that front, because I cannot imagine someone finding ALL Korok seeds without help and then writing a GUIDE for it. Just imagine you're playing BotW and you went through the entire world of Hyrule with a fine-tooth comb and looked under literally every single rock in the game, and when all said and done you find out that you have 898 seeds. How do you even go about "double-checking" where could those Korok seeds be? The only other answer I can think of is someone scouring the game's code files and find them that way.

You feel like you dont need an Xbox i say the same for a PS5. There is nothing that "I" want. All the games that I want to play is playable on the ps4. If I were most people I wouldn't buy any console unless you have a television to make the system shine

I enjoy Animal Crossing, however I wouldn’t consider it game of the year quality. It lacks polish in terms of within game quality. Having to go through the same dialogue with characters every interaction. The shop and museum being two examples. Picky? Perhaps, but really in 2020 the game should be better.

Alyx is the best game I've ever played, slightly edging out BOTW. Too bad only a couple staff at IGN have played it.

Some of my favorites of the year are ghost of Tsushima, hades, animal crossing Ori and the will of the wisps and lou2. My pick would be for ghost or animal crossing

Just a little correction: Crusader Kings 3 is not an RPG. It's a strategy game WITH rpg elements. Calling it an RPG is like calling Resident Evil 4 a third person shooter. It technically is, but it's not how you should describe it.

Series X launching without a single first party game - Gears Tactics. That aside the launch of both next gen consoles is bad for 1st party games. Miles Morales is cross gen and Demons Souls is a remake. Agree with Sam MS have not done a good job of showing the power of their console.

Doom Eternal is my GOTY so far, followed by Streets of Rage 4. Demon's Souls Remake will likely be my GOTY. Shout out to Carrion, Ori 2, Ghost of Tsushima as well. High hopes for Cyberpunk, Sackboy and Falconeer.

As of right now. My game of the year is LAST OF US PART 2. The story was a meh, but gameplay was way more fun than part 1. Ghost Of Tsushima was great too but it was just a simple open world game, beat it and moved on. I would of thought DOOM ETERNAL would of been my GOTY. But the game got really repetitive and really hard with numerous waves of enemies that it just became not fun for me. Overall I liked it, but got annoying.

Hades, Deep Rock Galactic, The Last of Us 2, & Ghost of Tsushima have been my favorite 2020 games so far. But, pretty sure Cyberpunk 2077 will be GotY. Void B@st@rds & Wasteland 3 deserve some honorable mentioning.

Before i consider buying a game i always check howlongtobeat.com which gives you an estimate on average time to beat a game, speed run it, complete it etc. Very very useful

Series X presumably being slightly better looking than PS5, is not a good enough selling point. Series X is really a wait and see console, maybe it will be worth buying in a year or two.
